Power is a dangerous thing, it can be used for good or for evil. Manipulative power is evil as is Lady Macbeth. In the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth to carry out her evil plan. This is because of the weakness of Macbeth's character and the strong power of Lady Macbeth as she is easily able to influence him. She was ambitious and persuasive, and Macbeth fell victim to her. He then follows through with her plan and falls victim to himself afterward. Lady Macbeth's presence and manipulative tactics are what causes all the chaos, not Macbeth's ambition in itself. If it weren't for Lady Macbeth's evil use of power, the whole train wreck of events that took place would have never happened.
It begins with Lady Macbeth’s ambition in the beginning of the story. She is power hungry and plans to use Macbeth in order to carry out her objective. Lady Macbeth is tactful in her methods in order to play innocent and loving all the while being persuasive and a toxic character. She tells him what a “man” would do and what he can do to be the perfect man. Obviously, this appeals to his ego and emotions and makes him vulnerable. This is a prime opportunity for Lady Macbeth to break him down and then give him advice, which leaves her with power over his feelings. In this way she gets into his head in order to manipulate him. "When you durst do it, then you were a man" (1.7.56). She takes a shot at his ego first. He now feels he isn’t man enough, which makes him want to do anything to prove his manliness. But then she tells him exactly how to be a man. “Live a coward in thine own esteem, letting ‘I dare not’ wait upon ‘I would’”(1.7.42). In this way she just gave him a problem and the solution that she wants him to hear. In this way, Lady Macbeth has now taken control over
