Let's switch it up and use red fish scales to spice up your lips, instead of a typical lipstick. Believe it or not fish scales are just one of the many disgusting Ingredients used in popular health and beauty products. Due to lack of regulations in the United States, manufacturers get away with not having to expose all ingredients in their products. When there is no law, there is chaos. Because of the enormous amount of unknown ingredients in health and beauty products, we can determine using natural products and creating regulations are much more beneficial to health and beauty products consumers.
With the economy still not at its best, and the population continuously increasing, many consumers would rather be killed by health hazardous ingredients than be self cautious about the chemicals in their shampoo. The desire to want to be pretty only increases the manufactures negligent behaviors. Women buy the makeup to enhance themselves. Without observing the ingredients in the makeup, they are often unaware of the toxins they are applying to their skin. The same thing also goes for men. When applying anti-perspiration deodorants they are applying Parabens and toxic chemicals, which could cause breast cancer and genetic mutations in both men and women. Parabens are chemical compounds, which are used a preservatives. Parabens are best to be avoided due to them being man- made; they imitate the chemical estrogen, which causes breast cancer.
Soap for example; The purpose of soap is to clean. It may be to clean the body skin or the floor; but the overall job is to clean. Soaps with exfoliating beads, only drag plastic up and down your body. Soap as a whole is only a mixture of acids, and then when added to the plastic exfoliations,...

... the hidden chemicals in cosmetics. It shows the effects it has on the body and the environment, the toxins in the products are slowly killing mankind, and we are unaware. It also shows how the FDA does not protect us like we think they do. I plan on using this source by including it in both my problem and solution section.

We all know that cosmetics existed thousands of years ago. Cleopatra used a heavy arsenal of beauty aids to help her shake the foundations of the Roman Empire. Yes, cosmetics and perfumes have a long history, but the consumer industry we live in is relatively recent, a creation of the decades 1890 through 1920. The products hawked in the 19th Century by druggists, perfumers, barbers, physicians, and a colorful assortment of other enterprising individuals were primitive by our standards. Certainly, active ingredients were used with abandon, notably arsenic, lead, and mercury. These were products that really made visible differences, and the consumer was well-advised to be wary of the majority of these mysterious concoctions.
Did you know, the personal care products you use every day have dozens of toxic chemicals that link to cancer, asthma, learning disabilities, and more? A campaign community working to build a healthier planet called The Story of Stuff and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, created a seven minute film called Chemicals in Beauty Products: The Story of Cosmetics. The purpose of this campaign film is to inform its viewers, specifically women and moms, about the toxic chemicals in our everyday personal care products, from lipstick to baby shampoo, that we may not know about. It addresses the top harmful chemicals that we are putting into our bodies, the products they are most likely found in, and

Chemical pollution into the environment can cause both genotypic and phenotypic changes in many organisms, including humans. More specifically, environmental pollutants like BPA can act as xenoestrogens (estrogen imitators), ultimately affecting hormonal activity and production in an organism. This alteration in activity and production can be termed as endocrine disruption. The endocrine system regulates a variety of processes responsible for growth and development, including gonadal formation and function, digestion, metabolism, sex differentiation, and embryonic development (reviewed by Flint et al., 2012). Chemicals that interfere with the function or structure of the endocrine system can be defined as endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2007).

During recent years, numerous newspaper and magazine articles have suggested that humans may be at risk because small amounts of well known environmental contaminants, such as dioxin, PCBs and DDT, can affect hormone levels. Hormones are produced by the endocrine system as regulators of biological function in target organs. Because hormones play a critical role in early development, toxicological effects on the endocrine system often have an impact on the reproductive system. The term endocrine disruptor is used to describe chemicals that can mimic hormones and may either enhance or counteract their effects. It has been suggested that these hormone changes can, in turn, lead to a variety of health problems including cancer, decreased fertility, and abnormalities in newborns.

Sadly, beauty care products are not very much controlled in the American market. While the FDA groups beauty care products and individual consideration items, they don't control them. Restorative makers are not permitted to utilize shading added substances and a chosen few fixings are restricted; past these couple of regulations, basically anything goes. So as to expel an item from the business sector, the FDA must demonstrate in a court of law that it is destructive; and much of the time, the FDA does not have room schedule-wise or cash important to wage a court fight against substantial beautifiers organizations. This does not imply that such claims are pointless. Actually, a recent report in U.S. News and World Report reasoned that "We look great, we notice great, and we have quite recently presented ourselves to 200 unique chemicals a day, through individual consideration items."
Detergent comes from the Latin word detergere meaning to clean, it is defined as a cleansing agent. Therefore, water itself is a detergent. This essay looks at soap and soapless (or synthetic) detergents. Both substances we use everyday and have a big market commercially, they effect everyone. Soaps are made from natural products and soapless detergents are produced chemically, each having advantages and disadvantages.
Although cosmetics became widely popular in the 1900s, tombs from 3100 B.C. have revealed that makeup originated in the first Egyptian Dynasty ("The History of Makeup", 1). Researchers found that these cosmetics contained ingredients that ranged from lead to cat dung; both of which are toxic. The use of toxic chemicals in cosmetics, such as coal tar, negatively impacts a person's health. Cosmetic companies put consumers' health at risk due to the use of toxic chemicals, marketing ploys and failure to properly regulate their own products and the chemicals they contain. While cosmetics pose dangerous risks to the human body in general, pregnant women and their fetus are especially vulnerable to the consequences of being exposed to these toxins.
There are many ingredients found in sunscreen that are actually harmful for the environment. The most harmful chemical is oxybenzone; It alters coral DNA, increases risk of potential fatal bleaching and acts as an endocrine disruptor. [12] The damaging effects of oxybenzone can come from as small a concentration as 62 parts per trillion. Oxybenzone along with octinoxate and butylparaben cause viral diseases in the algae accountable for feeding coral reefs, which prompts to the decreasing of regenerative capacities in fish species. Algae is what gives coral reefs life and coral reefs are home to 25% of fish species so if the algae dies, so do the species. Oxybenzone can be distinguished in urine following 30 minutes of anointment, so flushing
At present, cosmetics are always used in daily life. When we talk about cosmetics, most people will think of the things that only use for make-up such as lipstick, eye-shadow, mascara, blusher etc. But in fact cosmetics are not only mean to the things that only use for make-up but also shampoo, lotion or sunscreen. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) explains “Articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body… for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance.” (2014) The reason why people use makeups have different ways such as some people use for more confidence, some people use for protect the sunlight, and some people use for maintain their skin. However, there are a lot of people still worry about using the cosmetics since they believe that cosmetics are contained the dangerous chemicals that damage their body so they afraid of using them and try to avoid to use them. Although many people will be concerned that applying cosmetics may destroy their health, in fact, many experts have been confirmed that the use of cosmetic is not harmful to the human’s body. Moreover, cosmetics are also useful for users.
According many scientific researchers, our entire population has been dowsed with chemicals. There are several aspects of this dowsing that should concern us. First, and foremost, many of these chemicals are suspected to have damaging health effects on humans, as well as, other life forms. Second, most of these chemicals have only recently been produced so the environment is clearly changing and being challenged by these newcomers. Third, almost all of these chemicals exist in the forms and amounts that they do because of human practices-including agricultural, industrial, and many domestic activities as well. Fourth, many of the chemicals that we produce don't get used in a productive way-that is, they are wasted, disposed of, and/or left abandoned; consider that less than 5 percent of pesticides actually make contact with their host target. Fifth, most, if not all, of the chemicals used have replacements that are much less harmful or toxic. And sixth, and perhaps most discouragingly, many of us knowingly buy and use these chemicals without a moment's hesitation.
Synthetic polymers are used by chemist to make many everyday items that we are frequently using without even realising. A common product that the use of synthetic polymers have been introduced to is various types of cosmetics and personal care items. Synthetic polymers are currently being used in cosmetics and questioned whether they are either inevitable or ineffective in their use. Synthetic polymers are already being used in cosmetics this meaning the effects of synthetic polymers must either be inevitable to be further enhanced or ineffective in their implications. In this presentation it will outline and argue the effectiveness and use of synthetic polymers in cosmetics. It will discuss the differences between polymers and synthetic polymers. Also the benefits to using synthetic polymers, and the other
Some examples of harmful toxins with difficult names include diethanolamine (DEA), formaldehyde, glucocorticoids, and triethanolamine (TEA). We are exposed to toxic chemicals in many ways. We may breathe them in as sprays and powders, swallow chemicals on our lips and, even rub them on our skin. According to a team of researchers who conducted a study on the relationship between exposure to phthalates and DNA damage on human sperm, “cosmetics frequently contain enhancers that allow ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. Studies have found health problems in people exposed to common fragrance and sunscreen ingredients, including increased risk of sperm damage, feminization of the male reproductive system and low birth weight in girls” (Duty et al. 1164). There should be regulations banning toxic chemicals from personal care and beauty products because toxins are bad for our health (1), the consumer faith in cosmetic companies are suffering (2), and other countries recognized the effects and banned it while America has not
