In LIBS 6144, I implemented an inquiry lesson with a small group of fourth graders. For this lesson students were to pose their own questions about a topic. Students were to work through the stages of inquiry facilitated by the teacher based on the students’ questions. This artifact included a lesson plan, a student product, and facilitation of student learning incorporating 21st Century skills.
In creating this artifact, I collaborated with a teacher and created an inquiry lesson based on a unit of study. I first created a backwards plan that included a project that resulted from student posed questions. The media coordinator serves as a facilitator of learning that allows student to access resources to be responsible for their own learning.
If I were to recreate the course artifact, I would allow students more time to take control of their own learning. I would allow students to seek answers to their own individual questions. I feel the students would then be motivated to conduct their own investigations. I would also provide students more instruction on conducting a search and accessing materials and resources. If students are not proficient in this area, it can become an obstacle in the inquiry process.
What I learned from the artifact and course experience that I will use in my professional work is methods to help enhance student learning. I have learned by possessing certain dispositions, a culture can be built that increases student achievement. By allowing students to control their learning through inquiry learning, deeper meaningful learning can be achieved. I have learned strategies to create a 21st Century learning environment where students are encouraged to facilitate their own learning by collaborating with others beyond the school walls and participating in a learning community. At the closure of a soccer lesson I begin to ask my students questions like what performance skills are we working on in a soccer ( looking for the specific six performance skills we covered previously) allowed the students to demonstrate what they had previously learned. This changed my perspective not only on the types of questions I plan to ask my students but it showed me that they are engaged when I am talking and actively listening. Learning in a Changing World has brought on a number of learning experiences. The knowledge I have gained and theory I have completed through assessments and in class discussions and tasks has broadened my understanding of learning. It is evident that the theoretical perspectives focused on in this subject had a place in the process of my learning journey throughout the semester. Whether this has been learning a new skill for an assessment, observing and assisting teaching on placement or collaborative learning in the tutorials, a number of theories tie into these learning experiences.
Inquiry Learning is a way to make the student find their own answers for their questions (Lakes Matyas, Ph.D). Posing a question for the students is a way to get them started. Then, by guiding the students on their own different searches, they all come together in the end to share their findings to answer the question.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to inspire my students to think outside the box and to ask questions. Society needs thinkers not robots. The classroom plays an important part in aiding the growth of an individual. It is my duty as a teacher to impart knowledge because ideas have a way of changing lives. The understandings I have gained from this course have completely revamped my way of teaching. Inquiry is an interactive way of learning. Students are actively engaged in their studies. Inquiry involves student-centered activities focusing on questioning, exploring, and posing explanations. The goal of inquiry is to introduce a new way of learning where students can learn about the world around them through active engagement in real-life examples. Inquiry based learning can be incorporated into all academic subjects throughout the curriculum. Science could possibly be the most effective subject to incorporate inquiry.
As I reflect on my experiences observing in three different classrooms over the last three months, I cannot express how much I have learned by being in the classroom. I began the Master of Science in Education last fall and previous to the practicum experience I had taken 8 classes. I read books, listened to the experiences of my classmates and instructors, reflected on my own education, and tried to imagine how this information was going to prepare me to face a classroom of elementary school students. While I learned theories and skills that should be known by any educator, these classes could not teach me what I most desired to know: what tangible steps could I take to correctly implement all of the correct ways of teaching.
As educators we wish to have the students gain knowledge, through our efforts, and continue to expand their minds using the basics we have taught them. In an era when so many outside interests often cloud the minds of our impressionable youth, we often wonder how we can accomplish this task.

There could have been more accommodations made for my students categorized as special, and I also do feel that I needed to give more prompt feedback to assure mastery of the concepts that I was teaching. These problems could have be alleviated with the use of guiding questions, answer choices, and graphic organizers. A strength that I am proud of maintaining is my effective classroom management and my use of a guided inquiry lesson. These components kept my lesson engaging, fun, and encouraged the students to be more autonomous as I helped them to construct their own knowledge about plants. Things that I did lack in my lesson was informing the students of the purpose of the lesson and the activities that I have planned for the lesson after performing my anticipatory set. As I mentioned previously, the teaching method that I used was guided inquiry. At this stage, we are not only encouraging our students to be the constructors of their own knowledge, but we are also encouraging them to be more independent as well.
