Kramer V. Kramer

Kramer v. Kramer was an excellent film upon my viewing. I give the film four stars due to its detail in technical aspects, realistic portrayal of human drama, and outstanding performances.
Definitely worth adulation, the technical aspects of Kramer v. Kramer remain refreshingly simple while still standing out as excellent. There are no flashy editing techniques used, though well-executed transitions between scenes help the viewer understand the passage of time and changing attitudes between characters. The score remains unobtrusive, though is successful in establishing the tone of the film and signifying character development. My favorite technical aspect of Kramer v. Kramer was definitely the cinematography, which established the setting of New York in ingenious ways. As Ted reels from his divorce, the New York cityscape renders him lost among the monstrous concrete jungle, marking the confusion and chaos experienced in his personal life. Though neither the editing, score, or cinematography take tremendous risks, they are all successful in their simple

approach to telling a well-rounded story.
The way in which Kramer v. Kramer tackles a real-life issue is ultimately effective and grounding in its honesty. At the time of the film’s release, the subject of divorce still remained a relative cultural taboo. However, Kramer v. Kramer tackles the issue in a way that offers an introspective and honest view of family dysfunction. Told from the perspectives of the dissident parents, Joanna and Ted, the former couple is at the same time selfish and justified in their behaviors, true to life. The film does not aim to take sides, but instead lets the viewer understand and experience the faults of each character, whether it is Joanna’s selfishness or Ted’s hotheadedness. These perspectives make the conflict feel real and understood for any viewer of Kramer v. Kramer.
The heart of Kramer v.

Kramer is in its performances, and the film would not be as excellent without the tremendous efforts of actors Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. The methods of Hoffman and Streep’s performances took both paid off in their utter believability. Meryl Streep is utterly convincing as the lost and aimless Joanna Kramer, and her scenes in the courtroom were shockingly poignant in their realism. The blustering, hotheaded performance of Dustin Hoffman as Ted Kramer tremendously illustrates the inner turmoil and confusion resulting from his character’s new status as a single father, having to redefine his approach to daily life and his relationship with his son. Overall, each performance achieves a thorough and believable character arc with Ted and Joanna both irrevocably changed by their experiences in the film. Streep.
Kramer v. Kramer is an excellent film. It deserves a rating of four stars because of its effective cinematography, outstanding performances, and personal effect.
