In the speech “Know Your Worth, And Then Ask For It” Casey Brown talks about why people mainly women earn less than their worth, how to communicate to their boos about their value and how to fulfill your earning potential. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics female employees earn just 80 cents for every 1 dollar a man would make. The same for female business owner’s. To Ms. Brown she has heard women express their discomfort when it comes to talk about their values because it many come off as a them showing off. As an owner of a company Ms. Brown she knows firsthand of woman employees earning less than men. After a year in business as a pricing consultant she begins to realizes she need to rethink her pricing. Brown believes that female employees should find their voices and give up the idea that your showing off when your work literally speak for itself. When it comes to your work just focus on your love for your work and it will show. For example, a female owner of a web development company experienced the same feeling Ms. Brown experienced when it came to wondering her company’s self-worth. The owner found her voice and decided to triple her prices and her business increased. She decided to focus on making sure her client knew her and her company’s self-worth. Ms. Brown believes that you should be valued and you should find your value and then communicate with employer so you can get paid the amount you deserve. Now imagine you’ve been working for a business for five years and you’ve doing an exceptional job year after year only to learn that you haven’t been paid the amount you truly deserved for the work you’ve done.
