Plywoods should be the focus of the first product category developed and delivered by Knotty Wood Products due to the currently understood attributes of Paulownia wood - fast growing, strong - yet light weight, fire retardant & insulating properties provide excellent thermal & electrical protection. Easy to machine with various tools, accepting of numerous stains & finishes allows for flexibility in it’s choices of application & final visual appeal.
The relatively simple manufacturing process and large potential profit margins support this approach. A Paulownia Plywood product can be marketed to the higher-end side of the panel market which has more stringent requirements for their use cases and is accustomed to paying higher prices for these products. This higher-end space is currently being served by products including Baltic/Russian Birch, Marine Plywoods and the decorative Hardwood Plywoods, all of which demand higher price-points in the market.

Currently, Paulownia wood can be used for both core materials (inner-ply veneers) and face-grade material (customer facing veneers).
Using plywoods made with ‘Paulownia wood core’ (PWC) material provides good strength to weight ratios and can be skinned with any face-grade veneer, providing virtually unlimited choices to the exterior look. Due to it’s light weight, utilizing PWC material will significantly reduce the overall weight of the finished panel. Lighter weight panels reduced transport costs of raw sheet good material, (from Mill to final user) as well as the transport and operating weight of the final products which integrate PWC based plywoods in their
manufacturing. Using plywoods produced entirely out of ‘all Paulownia veneer’ (APV) further reduces panel weight and provides a consistent, attractive grain which can be dyed, stained and finished to create limitless looks and visual appeal. No Paulownia wood based plywoods currently exists in the market for testing. While some valuable testing has been done regarding the uses of Paulownia wood in general - additional, plywood product focused, testing is needed. Qualitative and quantitative data research & analysis should be conducted to support claims of weight reduction, fire retardancy, thermal & electrical insulation properties, and overall transport savings. Application/Use Case testing should also be conducted to determine best practices for the use of plywoods produced with PCW and APV. Summary and supporting documentation should be made publicly available. Initial 'target markets' for plywoods using PWC materials as well as APV plywoods include: Boat/Marine products manufacturing, Trailer/Motorhome/Mobile Home manufactures, Furniture/Cupboard-Cabinet fabrication & manufacturing, Sporting/Athletic Equipment manufacturers, and the Arts&Crafts Supplies industry. Further market research will be required to determine customer acceptance, anticipated consumption rates, pricing models and best distribution strategies to maximize early entry into the Paulownia Plywood market. With a greater understanding gained from the initial plywood product focus, additional panel products can be explored. At the appropriate time; OSB, Structural panels, Particleboard and MDF are all possible product categories benefiting from Paulownia wood and are worth further investigation.
Laws such as the lever law and Euler’s Buckling Theorem come into play when testing and competition begins. A structure of wood and glue surely has much more to offer than meets the eye.
Mother Nature has provided her tools since the beginning of time. One particular herb I want to discuss with you is Torilis Nodosa, also known as Knotted Hedge Parsley. Knotted Hedge Parsley is a plant that branches out at the base, low and spreading. They have five small white flowers, each that are in compact, compound umbels that come from the leaf axes. It is native to parts of Europe, especially the Mediterranean Basin and it is known elsewhere, such as North America, as an introduced species and a common weed. They spread out in all areas of the world, including residential lawns that grow in the Spring and Summer, which is May through August. They will also grow all year in colder climates.
The elegant touch of polishing and finish that the company offers to the products while manufacturing them, allows the products to be unique and stylish in their designs. Oak, maple, bamboo and other wood materials are generally used for the purpose of manufacturing the products. Timber Zone ensures high quality of its products and also offers excellent services to its London customers for the installation of the flooring, along with guiding customers to choose the right products for their
Bamboo is largely considered as one of the planets fastest-growing plants; some species can stretch up to a 3 feet in a single day. It is an enticing option because bamboo is just as strong as all of the existing hardwoods. It is a smart option because it resembles the qualities of hardwood at a lesser price. Finally, it is also sustainable due to the abundant obtainability and fast regeneration. While becoming a popular choice for floorings in homes and businesses today, bamboo flooring has the potential to be resilient, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly.
In 1996, Arctic Timber Engineered Woods Division, a highly mature business unit, faced a market downturn and began losing millions of dollars each month. Before becoming the President of the Engineered Woods Division, Bjorn Gustavsson had already determined that the company could not sustain its commodity business and was not aligned with the new direction devised by Peter Hammarskjöld, the CEO of Arctic Timber. According to Gustavsson, in order to prosper in a more challenging market environment, developing a specialty business was the only viable approach. The goal was to shift 50% of its commodity business into undetermined specialty by 2000. However, the Division had shifted only 10% of its business to specialty products by 1997.
You can make a range of items from hardwood, depending on the species of wood.
Charles and Keith uses synthetic materials and polyurethane to ensure affordable prices of their products (Singapore Press Holding, 2009). However, the qualities of the products are not compromised despite its inexpensive prices. The managing director Charles Wong reassured the customers that although the ...
From the neck all the way down to the soundboard all of it has a purpose for building a guitar. Strings, hardware, the types of paint, above all the wood matters. Not all the woods are suitable for use in the guitar, to qualify as good guitar wood, the wood must be strong enough to hold up structurally, but also have the tonal characteristics that a luthier is looking for. Each of
The tremendous inherent advantages derived from cross laminated timber (CLT) use in construction will prove plausible when an innovative American structure will be finalized, it will take the shape of an almost 80 feet bell tower. Europe has utilized this economic solution for urban overcrowding, harnessing minimal diameter timber from sustainable forestland, CLT comprises stacked up boards at right angles, glued on, with a strong and resilient material at low cost. During the last decade or so, this combination of building materials has been exploited, even for a block of flats in the United Kingdom, which comprises several floors made out of wood, although the corner stone is of another matter, concrete.
Because of this, alternatives to wood building are being sought out by environmental organizations, with the aims of increasing awareness of the state of our forests and providing information and access to wood alternatives in building and upkeep of houses and other structures. Though it may be a slow process to change building codes and norms, there are other alternatives available.
This description of ISO 22156 refers to key points for design and construction of structural bamboo. The document is purely descriptive, not prescriptive in the guidelines and does not provide values or equations for the design process.

The growth pattern of Bamboo is a miracle of nature. It not only can proliferate and survive in the harshest of circumstances but can also grow at considerable rate. Bamboo is a truly versatile material with high tensile strength, more than steel, which makes it extremely flexible and extreme compression structural strength more than wood, brick etc, which provides possibility of myriad usage ranging from architectural elements to small products of everyday usage. It is this aspect of bamboo, which is of importance making it viable for creating high fashion products, which are well designed and can command unique space
Structural grading of timber is the process by which it is assigned into different stress grades (groups), the timbers within each group should have similar properties. However due to the nature of timber there is inevitably a substantial range of properties within each grade and also an overlap in properties between grades, graded timber is stamped in accordance with The Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) guidelines. Structural grading can be performed in numerous ways including the following;
