Every year there are countless amounts of kidnappings. With the majority of the victims being white females between the ages of twelve and seventeen. Sadly, approximately ninety percent of the abductors are men and in half of the cases, the victims were sexually assaulted (Krajicik).
The definition of kidnapping is taking away a person against his or her will through force or threat and holding such person in false imprisonment; holding a person without any legal authority or right to do so. There are many reasons this horrible crime is committed. Some kidnap for ransom, to succeed in other crimes, gain custody of their child, and even political reasons. Although most of us associate strangers to be the committers of such a crime, a lot of victims are actually kidnapped by someone they know or even a relative ("Criminal Law Lawyer Source").
There is actually a list of criteria that must be met for someone to be considered kidnapping an individual. The kidnapper must be holding the victim for ransom, reward, or any other condition of release; using the victim as a shield for themselves or a hostage; interfering with any government or political activity; use them to commit another crime; or to harm to victim or their family ("Criminal Law Lawyer Source").
In the United States, not only is their severe punishment for committing such an act as kidnapping, but even attempting to kidnap an individual results in a penalty. Kidnapping is now a federal crime due to the Lindbergh Act; enacted after the child of Charles Lindbergh, a famous American aviator, was kidnapped (Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia).

Adapting to life after being held hostage or kidnapped can be just as difficult as abruptly leaving it. According to the American
A book titled Taken, by Edward Bloor is a fascinating story of adventure and kidnapping that is set in the year 2035. In this futuristic book, kidnapping is a rather common practice. Children that are raised by very rich families are often the ones that are kidnapped, or "taken" because the parents could provide more ransom money. For this reason, all rich children would move to highly secured neighborhoods, and hire butlers that doubled as security guards. The children were then required to take classes on what to do if they were taken.
The first case that I looked at was one of the most famous cases of Stockholm syndrome. Patty Hearst was kidnapped on February 4, 1974 from the apartment she shared with her boyfriend Stephen Weed. The kidnappers were Donald DeFreeze, Bill Harris, Emily Harris and Willie Wolfe. This was a well-planned combat exercise
This study examines the research that initially began on October 28, 2000 and spanned through to October 31, 2009. If a human trafficking case occurred in the US, with the victim being under the age of 18, and at least one arrested, indicted or convicted felon, their case would be filed in the data analysis report. This research resulted in the finding of 115 separate incidents of human trafficking, involving at least 153 victims and 215 felons or perpetrators, 117 (53.4%) of them being convicted of their heinous actions. Each individual case consisted of anywhere between 1 to 9 victims of trafficking. 90% of these victims were females between the ages of 5 to 17 years who were held captive from less than 6 months to 5 years. 25 (16.3%) of these minors were exploited through some type of false promise and 15 (9.8%) were kidnapped. 34 (22.2%) of the victims were abused through com...
Defining human trafficking can be difficult due to the fact that it can be confused with other illegal activities such as smuggling and consented prostitution. In the essay Human Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery In The 21st Century , Shaden Mohajerin states that human trafficking can be defined as the transferring, harboring, and transportation of persons which is accomplished through force, coercion, kidnapping, and deception (...

Child abduction or child theft is the unauthorized removal of a minor (a child under the age of legal adulthood) from the custody of the child's natural parents or legally appointed guardians. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_abductionChild abduction has always been an issue in the United States over the past one hundred and forty years, but was not recognized until the late 1970s and 1980s. The subject grew and grew as parents and the public grew with fascination with this crime. It was drawing a lot of attention especially because Americans were watching the news. Parents were living in terror, with the fear that their children could get kidnapped. By the 1980s Americans began to grow with much fear due to the publicity surrounding a series of kidnappings of young boys. During this time the parents of the victims created foundation to assist in finding other children and brought the subject to the attention of national authorities, including congressional panels. They helped to stimulate the passage of laws and authorized new FBI oversight and provided funding for a new agency, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.http://origins.osu.edu/article/child-kidnapping-america/page/0/1
Meaning that a victim can be anyone, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or socioeconomic status. Raising more awareness and increasing the amount of education regarding this topic is vital in both metropolitan and non-metropolitan communities. Teaching youth at an early age what a healthy and unhealthy relationship looks like and how to be safe on the Internet is key in combating the issue of exploitation and trafficking. As well as training professionals and individuals who may come across victims in any setting to be able to recognize the signs of sexual exploitation and sexual trafficking. With an increase in training and awareness, the world may be able to gain a more realistic calculation of how many individuals are affected by either sexual exploitation or sexual trafficking.
Sex traffickers will often train girls by teaching them sexual acts and raping them. Significantly represented as perpetrators, victims, and activists fighting this business, human trafficking is the only crime that occurs across the nation where women can take part in every role. Today, the business of human trafficking is way more violent and organized. A victim that has been with her trafficker the longest and earned his trust is known as the victim. The bottoms perform many jobs such as collecting the money from the other girls, disciplining them, talking others into the industry, and handling the day-to-day business for the trafficker.
Persons found guilty of committing the crime of kidnapping risk being imprisoned or heavily find. Additionally, during a kidnap some other offense might occur such as assault and battery. False Imprisonment and Kidnapping are comparative terms but unmistakable as per their legal definitions. While both include persuasively taking an individual away without his consent, false imprisonment is more correctly used in particular cases where a person is confined in a bounded place and denied his or her freedom. Kidnapping is a broader term and includes the unlawful taking of an individual without his consent using threats, deceit, or force with an end goal of confining him or her (Robbins, 2014).

Although many claim race to no longer be an issue in America, it is apparent through the treatment and abuse of racial minorities that race does play a factor in human trafficking and those being sexually exploited.
Most of the citizens of the United States have common misconceptions and myths about human trafficking. United States citizens think under the Federal definition, that trafficked person can only be foreign or aliens from other countries (Goodey, 2008). This is not true the Federal definition states that human trafficking involves both United States citizens and foreign nationals. The Federal therefore states that both foreigners and citizens are all protected under the Federal trafficking statutes since the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (US Congress, 2000). The other misconception that the citizens have is that trafficking must involve some form of travel, transportation, or movement across state borders. According to the United States federal laws, trafficking does not require travel or transportation.
Rape can happen to anyone. Women from different cultures, races, ages, and economic level are all vulnerable. It does not matter who you are or where you live, although women of lowest status are most vulnerable to rape, and so are Hispanic and African American women. (An...
Why have we not found these people? Many people ask this question and there is not an obvious answer. When police first get a report of a missing person they identify what level of risk the person is in. There are 3 classifications of risks: low, medium, and high. Low risk means that the person is in no apparent danger from others or to themselves. Missing people under the age of 18 should not ever be put into the low risk category. Medium risk means that they are likely in danger or dangerous to themselves or others. High risk means that the person is very likely to be in immediate danger or the victim of a serious crime. However, that being said, it is extremely rare to have an abduction or murder case. They do happen, but most missing people are runaways or just wanted to start a new life. After the police assess the risk, they may send out officers. Officers are sent immediately if it is a high risk case. Als...
