The Kardashians have definitely made a name for themselves, but most people associate that name with being bad influences. Sure the origins of their fame is questionable at best, stemming from Kim’s short film and their father defending a most likely guilty man. However, just because their beginning was less than ideal doesn’t mean that they are bad people now or undeserving of their fame. For instance in their show, they talk about a lot of important topics in the modern world like gun control and anxiety and expose the younger audience and the public in general to real issues in a fun and informal setting. Yes, most of the “information” on their show is very much sensationalized with drama and fighting, but nevertheless it at least opens a dialogue. Despite their differences and the …show more content…
On the other hand, despite how close of a family they are, their reality television show by nature has proven to have negative effects on society. Reality television is a new form of media that is gaining popularity and provides increased exposure to glamorized alcohol use, definitely pictured in Keeping up with the Kardashians. In fact, the majority of participants in a study regarding the negative effects of reality shows agreed that reality TV encourages college students' alcohol consumption and overwhelmingly agreed that reality TV depicted alcohol consumption as glamorous with far fewer recognizing any depiction of negative consequences (Paredes). Personally, I disagree with this sentiment, because as much as their platform has brought their scandals and wrongdoings to light, it shows us what not to do. If we view their behavior as trashy and classless, then why would we desire to mimic
The shows portrays a melting pot of each character lives with money, sex, social media, and relationships unfiltered and toxic, yet irrelevant to the real –world. Another key point is the exploitation of the television world and the millions of viewers, that it’s okay sociably to exemplify deviant behaviors in real –life. Also, culturally and sociably, the reality show creates a bigger problem as the platform provided for the cast is characterized in a negative state. On the negative side, this creates the illusion to act in like manner, from the deviant behavior portrayed on
...e the beginning of time, Television has been one the most influential pieces of media that the world has ever encountered. Bravo TV’s hit number one reality television show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, deals with the everyday lives of modern-day “housewives”. When speaking of these women and their family life, the show shows its viewers that family life in modern times is dramatic, full of misrepresentations of how people are perceived, and how fame comes at the cost of family. The show stands strong with the critics and its faithful viewers around the world. Clearly, the show is not going astray anytime soon. Families who watch the show will eat up the drama and prays that their families never deal with those petty types of problems. The world will keep spinning in the television cycle, and drama will continue to invade the homes of millions of Americans.
Part of that is because some people’s perspectives of celebrities allow them think as if they’re on a pedestal and are more important than the average human. When people vision these celebrities as these quintessential people it enable’s their own thoughts and opinions on the celebrity. It’s like brainwashing, these celebrities only show the media what they want, which allows them to put up a whole façade and mask who they truly are. During the O.J Simpson trial it opened more people’s minds to visualize the concept that celebrities have the ability to be just as deranged as the average person, and that we are all equal, but the only difference that’s separates us is the fact that their job is in the lime
It's been a few years now but America is still obsessed with "Keeping up With the Kardashian's". What is this obsession all about? Are we fascinated by their luxurious lifestyle? Perhaps we're entertained by their zany antics. Whatever reason you may have to watch the show, it's undeniable that Kim Kardashian is the "star". Never before has someone been so universally loved and hated at the same time. However these days, the reasons to love her are seriously diminishing.
Why is that all blogs or media sites only pay attention to the bad behavior? We see videos of famous people getting drunk, doing drugs, and even being disrespectful. Eventually, we see this domino effect on young girls, they start being rebellious, start to talk back to their parents even go to parties and drink. Nowadays, celebrities are seen as role models to these kids. What kind of example are these celebrities providing to teenagers when they can barely control their life. Role models are supposed to be someone you admire, someone you look up to and try and follow their examples. Not someone who lives a fake life and you barely know. As stated in an article called “Why this generation is so completely obsessed with the idea of Celebrity” Adam Pliskin explains the real reason to why we follow celebrities as much as we do. This is because we secretly want fame ourselves.
...s of image, misleading, and popularity have influenced the thoughts of people who watch reality shows. To me reality shows such as jersey shore, the housewives series have influenced as to how i see people who have the money are stuck up and have no idea what is really important to the world. That alot of Americans were embarassed to have those people represent the United States. I am embarrased that we as Americans, wach reality shows of other people who are no diffrent from we are and give them so much attenion for simply being broadcasted for misleading me how easy life is for them than for those who try to make a difference or that just beacause how popular they are with the younger genreation. We as people should give the image of trying to make our world better place for he not so forunate bu ae living pretty well, but for those who are not fortunae at all.

Kim’s amazing acting, with the help of her of her family, shows a lot of drama in each episode which is what makes the show so popular. Over the last few decades celebrity and fame has changed dramatically, from Alexander the Great to Kim Kardashian. Talent and achievements no longer play a huge role when it comes to our celebrities. “Much modern celebrity seems the result of careful promotion or great good looks or something besides talent and achievement” (Epstein2) with that being said celebrity-creation has blossomed into an industry of its own. Keeping up with all the gossips from breaking up to hooking up, law suits and drama many might come to an agreement that celebrity culture is starting to be the great new art form in our new generation and that it ...
In today’s day and age we live in a society obsessed with celebrity culture. This however, is not a new addiction; our society’s fascination with celebrity culture has been around for decades. Through the years, we’ve seen fandom come in various forms, shapes and sizes. From the groupies of the 60s, to the more recent digital-followers, one thing common among all fans is the pedestal on which they’ve put their favorite celebrity. Some people would argue that fans are not only the most important part of a celebrity’s life, but fans are quintessential in their success. Fans admire them, follow their every move: physical or electronic, and purchase anything and everything that might bring them in looking/feeling more like their desired celebrity. Many experts even believe that fan and fan-clubs often resemble religions. One can easily note the similarities between fans and a religious cult; from worshipping to organizing conventions and event recruiting new followers. To some it might even sound like a disorder, and Dr. Lynn McCutcheon after her intense research, was the first one to coin the term: (CWS) Celebrity Worship Syndrome. According to Psychology Today, CWS can be described as a mental-disorder where an individual becomes completely obsessed with the details of the personal life of a celebrity (Griffiths). A celebrity, as defined by Mark Griffiths, can be any person who is present in the ‘public eye’, including Politicians, authors, and journalists, but according to Dr. McCutcheon research they are more likely to be someone from the world of television, film and/or pop music. Continuing on Justin Bieber’s ad campaign, this paper examines the peculiar relationship between consumers and God-like celebrity figures. It showcase...
Much of today’s society seems obsessed on what actors/actress, athletes, and music artist are wearing, eating, who they are marrying, dating, where they are vacationing, what affairs they are having or have had, and how they live their everyday lives. What’s so interesting about this obsession is as a society we are implacable and often place celebrities on a pedestal, only to destroy them when they are illusive or promiscuous. Media outlets are swift to report when celebrities are in trouble but quickly forget all their accomplishments. It’s as if we want them to be perfect but once they are associated with a scandal we embark on destroying their reputation and character. Should society hold celebrities to higher standards just because they are paid millions for endorsements and a craft they worked hard to perfect? Do we as a society have the right to castigate celebrities when they misbehave? Do celebrities have the right to become livid when they are focused on for their immoral behavior? Do they love the media attention only when it benefits them? Before we can answer the above questions, would we, furthermore, can we live our life as a celebrity if given the opportunity?
Some say that celebrities make good role models. However, that's not always the case. Some might say that this is not an important issue, but think about all the younger kids that look up to celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and the very famous Kim Kardashian. Their reckless behavior can influence the future generation to do more bad than good in today’s society.
Calling fame the root of all evil is too easy though, not everything is black and white, there must be a little grey, and there is. Not all children who grow up on the set or amongst other famous people turn out so badly. It isn't fair to stereotype all players to one game, especially when there have been plenty of examples to contradict that thought. These kids in the environment of the famous are just like you and I, they are people too, this means they depend on things that “regular” people depend on. Things that define our personalities also define those of the famous people we set apart as “abnormal”.
...ter high school and college, they become exposed to parties that consist of alcohol, drugs and sex. Many began watching reality television to mimic the party antics they see because they consider it “cool”. It is also cool to them because the individuals on these shows are people their ages. Respondents from the survey explained that our youth learn how to drink and what to drink from watching reality television. They also learn how to develop bad behaviors such as rude manners, foul language, and out of control conduct. Lastly, a major concern pointed out by the respondents was teenagers and college students can learn sexual misconduct. This is dangerous because unsafe sex practices can result to sexual transmitted diseases. Overall, the temptation of our youth’s surroundings does not stay in control while they are exposed to improper behavior seen on reality shows.

Media technologies are becoming an important aspect of today’s society. Each and every day, people interact with media of many different forms. Media is commonly defined as being a channel of communication. Radio, newspapers, and television are all examples of media. It is impossible to assume that media is made up of completely unbiased information and that the media companies do not impose their own control upon the information being supplied to media users. Since many people use media very frequently, it is obvious to assume that it has affects on people. According to the text book Media Now, "media effects are changes in knowledge, attitude, or behavior that result from exposure to the mass media," (386). This leaves us with many unanswered questions about media and its influences. This paper will look at how the effects of media are determined and explore the main affects on today’s society - violence, prejudice, and sexual behavior.
