Christian represents all of the God-fearing humanity on our journey to meet our King. He encounters several characters along the way, some encourage him on his quest, while other’s bring fear and doubt upon him. Every person, however, is crucial in the story to developing Christian’s own character. Every encouraging character brings confidence and devotion to Christian, while all the pessimistic, cunning characters he crosses, arise in him a passion for his task and a self-assurance beyond what others may say about his journey.
Joy is a character that both leads and follows and can be elated or sad. Joy is a foundational characteristic and whatever is built upon her, is completely different to whatever could be built without Joy. Joy does not change the things of life, but she

remarkably changes our outlook on the way life is presented, which changes us. Joy is hopeful because she is optimistic, and she leads because of a drivenness placed in her optimism. Joy is different from the character of Happy.
Happiness is a characteristic meant to be felt during an exhilaration brought by an event, but is not meant to be felt always. Joy is often confused as Happy because society thinks that when a feeling of hope or optimistic vision is felt, that an event must have caused this occurrence, however Joy is beyond an experience, and is an ever-dwelling knowledge that travels beyond feeling.
Joy is in Christian’s story always even if she does not appear so. Joy acts as a silent foundational friend, but in times of need, Joy always presents herself to Christian and guides him. She is expressed differently throughout his journey and his many, ranging feelings. Accompanying Christian during his ordinary moments, Joy is there to let his high spirits soar and to further encourage his excitement. She is present to walk beside him as his friend.
In silent times, Joy trots behind Christian to keep him traveling onwards and calms him with her still presence. Times often come joy goes unnoticed, but if Joy were to leave, Christian would know. He would tremble backwards and not have Joy as his shield, or he would walk aimlessly without a purpose or
direction. In sad times, Joy may remain silent, though she no longer follows behind Christian, but takes his arm and guides him upon the right path. Her grip on Christian holds him steady and delivers him hope and direction, even though his feelings feel differently. Joy is a character of guidance, a friend found in laughter, and a shield found in tears. Joy may not be visible unless you look for her, but she is always present. She creates vision, brings solidness in optimism, and creates a genuine smile even when the heart feels different.
Joy loved her son enough to send him away so that he would stop making bad choices.
Joy did whatever it took and sometimes it meant not letting Wes leave military school to come home. She stood her ground and wanted to make him a better person, so she made him stick it out. She also valued her kids education so much that she did all she could which meant working multiple jobs just to keep them out of the public schooling system. If Wes didn’t have the support of his mother, he would of turn out like the Other Wes that was in the story and he mostly likely would have gone to jail
Joy is an enforcer who contributes to the "Party" by sacrificing his body in taking chronic beatings. He is a short man with a disfigured face. He is typified by some as not too bright and insane by others; he is very pugnacious, as he is willing to fight anyone.
Throughout the novel The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan convey’s different mother-daughter relationships from each point of view. Joseph Campbell, a well known American Mythologist, in his interview “The Power of Myth” describes a true hero. In their conversation Campbell states “A hero is someone who moves out of a society that would have protected them, and into the dark forest, into the world of fire, or original experience” (3). Campbell is explaining how a hero goes from their original world into the unknown, the “Dark Forest”. He uses “World of fire” as a metaphor for the new experience you undergo. The Hero's Journey consist of eight steps, within these eights steps you change from a
While Christian had companions during his journey, none of them were with Christian from beginning to end. Once Pliable, one of Christian’s neighbors from the City of Destruction, fell into the Slough of Despond in the early parts of their travels, Pliable “became so discouraged by that experience that he refused to go any farther,” (Bunyan 25). Faithful, a good, honest christian, was burned at the stake for his beliefs after travelling quite a ways with Christian. Fortunately, Faithful’s untimely demise and unrelenting trust in God converted one man, Hopeful, into a believer. Hopeful joined Christian in his pilgrimage and completed the journey with him to the Celestial City. If Loyal were with Christian, she would never abandon him intentionally and she would aid him in his journey in many ways. Loyal would complete the journey with Christian and Hopeful to the Celestial City without ever leaving Christian’s
One of the major trials that Christian experiences is when he is in the Village of Morality when he is faced with the temptation to end his journey. When Christian is in the Village of Morality, he is introduced to Mr. Worldly Wiseman, a kind man who, being that he is a nonbeliever cannot fathom why Christian left his family and home to go on the journey that God has sent him on. Mr. Worldly Wiseman tells Christian that his journey for the Lord will end in nothing but death and he should just stay in the Village of Morality where he and his family
The Rood experiences many common earthly feelings such as embarrassment at being cut down to humility at being chosen to hold the one and only Christ. This develops into an eternal spiritual connection as he develops a loyalty and respect for Him and is, therefore, honored to “stand fast” for Christ. The Rood tells his story so that the Dreamer and the reader can understand that Christ’s suffering and resurrection have provided forgiveness for mankind’s sins. Hope will allow them to live in spiritual grace or as the author says, “to live in glory, when their Lord returned, the Eternal King to His own country.” The Rood presents a truth for living in the physical world by commanding both the Dreamer and the reader to “tell others the events you have seen.” Each person must “seek His kingdom” during their time on
The Buddha taught that happiness is one of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment. But what is happiness? Dictionaries say happiness is a range of emotions, from contentment to joy.
Quote: Joy, rather than happiness, is the goal of life, for joy is the emotion which accompanies our fulfilling our natures as human beings. It is based on the experience of one's identity as a being of worth and dignity-Rollo May
Happiness is a common emotion that provides a positive and lifted lifestyle. Many people think happiness is handed around, that happiness comes from a lucky draw in life, as if it was a game. However people actually choose to be happy by living and thinking in a positive way that creates happiness for them.
Happiness: a mental or emotional state of well-being defined defined by positive or pleasant emotions. It is a thing many humans search for, but seem to have trouble finding. Philosopher John Stuart Mill is correct when he believes that happiness should not be a direct goal; happiness should come naturally without having to search for it.
Christian begins his journey in a very hopeless state, desperate for a rescue from his cursed future. Right from the very beginning of the ageless book, Christian is found outside of his home reading a part of the bible and being filled with despair. It is a state of mind where the individual feels that “life is good”. Happiness is a feeling that cannot be broken if strong enough, no matter how much sadness or hate is around you. Happiness can come from the smallest thing, for instance, music makes me happy and can easily change my mood, or when I am doing something I love my mood is easily changed. For others it could be whenever you do something well, or right and get recognition for it. It is the easiest feeling to be spread and given out but often neglected and forgotten about which is something we should all be more aware
