Nothing is impossible. It is a phrase commonly told to people so to encourage them to strive for their dreams. But words have no meaning if they don’t have actions to prove them right. That is why without the hard work and sacrifice you put into your goals, they might never be accomplished. Within the book The Joy Luck Club, in the chapter “The Joy Luck Club,” Auntie Ying and Jing-Mei Woo are having a conversation. In this conversation Auntie Ying tells Jing-Mei, “Your mother was a very strong woman…She knew they were alive, and before she died she wanted to find her daughters in China” (pg.39). In this sentence it shows the determination of Jing-Mei’s mother to get out of China and the sacrifice she had to make to leave her two daughters in order for her to produce a better life for her and her kin in a new country. …show more content…

In paragraph 10 of the article, Javier states, “…if u send me back, I’ll return to my family.” Much like Jing-Mei’s mother, Javier is determined to be with his family just so that he can provide for them. However in doing so Javier is deported. As a result of his deportation, Javier was not only sent back to Mexico, but he also had to serve time in prison because he had done it a first time already. Between his deportation and jail time, Javier had already lost a lot of time with his family, which was what he aimed to lengthen in the first place. In the end though, he was granted back in the states with the help of a lawyer and was free to spend all the time with his
