Journey to the Lone Star State
What is it like in the heart of Texas? Well, it is mostly hot more than it is cold down there. There are a bunch of cool things that have incredible like seeing horses, driving past stadiums where sports teams play or going to concerts. But that is not why Texas is my favorite vacation, the reason why Texas is my favorite vacation because I get to play sports, take airplane rides, and most importantly, visiting my family. My favorite thing about going to Texas is that me and my cousins are always playing sports.
We would mostly play football and basketball with my cousins. Nevertheless, everyone on my dad’s side of the family loves the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans because if you are from Texas, you got to love them two teams. There were times that we always play sports games that includes Madden, NBA 2k, or WWE because it is about having fun. Being around my cousins is awesome and amazing because I like enjoying some great entertainment.

If we did not get the tickets to get there, then we have to drive all the way over there. There were times that we would have to get up like around 5 or 6 in the morning, so that we do not have to worry about going there at 10 at night. Going to the airport is fun, I get to enjoy the view, watch videos, and talk to people on my phone to keep me entertained. Although most people have probably heard of the Battle of the Alamo, most may not know that it was part of a much larger conflict, the Texas Revolution. From personal high school experience I can say that not many people know much about this revolution or what caused it. This revolution is a very important part of American history. The Texas revolution was a military conflict between Texas and Mexico that started on October 2, 1835 and lasted until April 21, 1836. Sometimes also known as the Texas War of Independence, this conflict not only led to the establishment of the Republic of Texas but also started several other conflicts that eventually began the Mexican American War.
Texas is a unique place with a colorful history of legendary cowboys and tall tales. The state stretches over the middle section of the southern United States. Texas has experienced shifts in governmental control within the United States. French, Spanish, Mexican, and Confederacy, and all having once been in charge, not to mention the time Texas spent as an independent republic. Texas has had many battles and wars within its borders, resulting in seven different constitutions within a span of fifty years between each document.
When looking at the vast lands of Texas after the Civil War, many different people came to the lands in search for new opportunities and new wealth. Many were lured by the large area that Texas occupied for they wanted to become ranchers and cattle herders, of which there was great need for due to the large population of cows and horses. In this essay there are three different people with three different goals in the adventures on the frontier lands of Texas in its earliest days. Here we have a woman's story as she travels from Austin to Fort Davis as we see the first impressions of West Texas. Secondly, there is a very young African American who is trying his hand at being a horse rancher, which he learned from his father. Lastly we have a Mexican cowboy who tries to fight his way at being a ranch hand of a large ranching outfit.
The growth of agriculture and railroads in Texas and in the United States helped form our economy today. Railroads today pass through a lot of Texas, and even in big cities like Houston or Dallas. Since there are so many farms and open farmland (especially in south and west Texas), railroads can carry the produce and livestock to their destination. James Watt invented the first steam engine in about 1769, and from then on, railroads were a must for transportation, since cars had yet to be invented. Railroads began to be built before the Civil War. It originally took about 6 months to get from the west of the US to the east, but now it only took 7 days. With railroads expanding all across the country, agriculture was affected in a mostly positive way. Now, crops and other goods could be transported by train anywhere in the US, and fast.
The Texas Legislature is far too archaic to provide consistent leadership for a state government; Congress has become too enmeshed with the executive branch and leaves blurry lines drawn in its separation of powers. The ideal legislature would be a modernized version of what the Texas Constitution created.
While reading "The Kind of Light that Shines Over Texas," I noticed that the author emphasized the different reactions of minorities towards racism and injustice. The varying responses truly showed how much the blatant racism affected them and their behavior. Ah-so isolated herself in reticence and seemed to “build a home” in herself, creating walls and barriers that kept everyone else out. On the other hand, the narrator, an anti hero, denied his racial identity and sucked up to those who treated him badly. The unjustifiable hatred of others causes us to do irrational things in order to gain their acceptance and approval. For years I’ve been planning a family vacation but had never decided a pleasant and fascinating place to visit. A lot of people relate the adventures in San Antonio for tourists. To mention a few, The Riverwalk, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta, and The Tower of the Americas are the main attractions that would be perfect for a family trip. I was so enthusiastic and explored more into it. I gave my family the great news of going and exploring this amazing city on our own! San Antonio offers the best of attractions and activities in all Texas! Whether you’re looking for popular entertainment for the whole family or to spend time with your friends, I was so positive I had made a superb decision!
Thesis: The nine years of Texas’s independence were long and seemed to be dragged out. Were those nine years unnecessary and could it have been done in a shorter period of time?
The Annexation of Texas was one of the most debatable events in the history of the United States. This paper argues the different opinions about doing the annexation of Texas or not. In this case Henry Clay and John L. O’Sullivan had completely opposite opinions about this issue. The reasons of why not do it was because of the desire to prevent war, for division over slavery, and for constitutional rights. On the other hand, John L. O’ Sullivan wanted to do this because of his idea of Manifest Destiny. By 1845, the annexation of Texas went into effect.

Texas, being the very conservative, right-wing state that it is, has long had problems compromising and working with the federal government and when it comes to environmental policy, this is no exception. Republicans in the state of Texas tend to clash frequently with federal Democratic leaders and this has been especially noticeable within the last few years. The state of our environment is a national problem and has gotten to the point where federal law must intervene when it comes to regulation of how each state deals with the problems of air quality, water pollution, and conservation of land and resources, to name a few. It seems as though when it comes to issues regarding the environment, the states and federal government have been unable to see eye to eye. In the past, there was a focus on meeting the minimum federal standards when it came to the environment but states are leaning towards more aggressive policies. While each state may choose to handle this policy in the way they feel best benefits them, it is an issue that affects the whole country and should be handled as if it were as important as any other. Single states often become catalysts for others to adopt their regulations, rather than using the federal government as a leading example, but it is important that these catalyst states are being led in the right direction in the first place.
My first experience with Texas was around 1983 when I visited the state. I was traveling quite extensively at that time and most of Texas was included in those travels. I had previously been in several other states in our nation but none seemed to compare to the great State of Texas. Things were just different in Texas. The people were different, the culture was different and the image of Texas, portrayed by the people, past and present is equal to no others.
In the 1800s the United States began expanding West. It was known as an impressive accomplishment and one of the best things that occurred. America would be very different if our ancestors did not move west. The United States expanded because of the belief “Manifest Destiny.” Many activists and people thought it was their duty to expand west conquering the entire country.
Have you ever been to Texas? I have been once. My trip to Texas was unbelievably awesome. I saw many of things on my way there. While we were there, I had loads of fun. Many things happened while we were there. Texas was the coolest place I have ever been.
When the Bob Bullock Texas State History museum opened in March 2001, it advertised itself as “The Story of Texas.” It still calls itself the story of Texas in letters chiseled into the top of the building, on its Web site, on signs directing visitors to the museum, and even on the refrigerator magnets you can buy in the gift shop. When I first saw the slogan, I wondered how there could be “the” story of Texas, since Texas has been culturally diverse throughout its history as a part of Mexico that became a separate nation and later a state. Shortly Texas will have no one group as a majority. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, where the great majority of the population, like me, is Mexican American. How was this new museum going to present my story? I had to go and find out.
