“The more we do to you, the less you seem to believe we are doing it”, these are the words from one of the most notorious figures known for killing thousands during the Holocaust. This notorious figure is known as Dr. Josef Mengele aka “The Angel of Death”. To better understand Dr. Josef Mengele one must learn the thoughts of others in relation to him and what his practices were in the Holocaust. By doing this one can better answer the true question; what drove “The Angel of Death” to torture so many innocent people? Many people believed he was nothing more than a monster, and to others he was just a regular figure on the platform doing what his country asked him to do.
Margaret Englander, a survivor of Auschwitz, worked for Mengele as his clerk witnessing life-and-death selections for a year. “He took 4 children one day; he gave them sweets, and put them in his car. While driving, he stopped in the middle of the road and shot them all.” Mengele later sterilized her daughter and selected her to die, just two days after being liberated.
“I wouldn’t like to see him that he should die. Definitely not. I would like to see him; he should suffer for the rest of his life. Yes, this is which I would like to see him. He should be in life and he should be suffering and he should hear the survivors to tell him what he did to us.” (CBS Network)
Enrique Mueller was a close friend of Mengele after the Holocaust. Women: “what was he like as a person?” Mueller: “Just like you and I. All he did then was his duty. Just like what the Americans do today, the same bloody experiments which carried out then. Everybody knows Mengele here.” Women: “Do you really think he did what people accused him of?”
Mueller: “Yes. And I would be...

The down side to this was that his success was at the expense of innocent people and it was for that reason that Dr Josef Mengele will forever be known as “The Angel of Death”.

In Auschwitz: A Doctor’s Eyewitness Account, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli tells the story of his time in Auschwitz. Dr. Nyiszli is a Jewish survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp located in Poland. His story provides the world with a description of horrors that had taken place in camp in 1944. Separated from his wife and daughter, Dr. Nyiszli volunteered to work under the supervision of the head doctor in the concentration camp, Josef Mengele. It was under Dr. Mengele’s supervision that Dr. Nyiszli was exposed to the extermination of innocent people and other atrocities committed by the SS. Struggling for his own survival, Dr. Nyiszli did anything possible to survive, including serving as a doctor’s assistant to a war criminal so that he could tell the world what happened at the Auschwitz concentration camp. This hope for survival and some luck allowed Dr. Nyiszli to write about his horrific time at Auschwitz. His experiences in Auschwitz will remain apart of history because of the insight he is able to provide.
Dr. Nyiszli was a Jewish survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp survivor which was located in Poland. Reading his story provided me and the rest of the world with a description of the horrors that took place in the concentration camp in 1944. Being separated from his wife and daughter, Dr. Nyiszli volunteered to work under the supervision of the head doctor at the concentration camp which was Josef Mengele. Being a Jew and a medical doctor, he was spared death to do worst then a death, to perform scientific research on his fellow inmates with the infamous “Angel of Death”- Dr. Josef Mengele. Dr. Nyiszli was named Mengele’s personal research pathologist. In that capacity he also served as physician to the Sonderkommando, the Jewish prisoners who worked exclusively in the crematoriums and were routinely executed after four months. There were several thoughts that ran my mind after reading Dr.

The Holocaust was one of the greatest tragedies the world has ever known. There were many key people who participated in this outrageous genocide however some get more attention then others. Adolf Eichmann is a classic example. Eichmann was a self-proclaimed “Jewish Specialist” and head of the Gestapo Department. Eichmann was responsible for keeping every train rolling right into the stations of the concentration and death camps during the holocaust. Now we will take a look into Eichmann’s childhood, life experiences, and his later actions to see what shaped into a man of hatred towards the Jewish race.
Activities in the concentration camp struck fear within the hearts of the people who witnessed them, which led to one conclusion, people denied the Holocaust. Nazis showed no mercy to anybody, including helpless babies. “The Nazis were considered men of steel, which means they show no emotion” (Langer 9). S.S. threw babies and small children into a furnace (Wiesel 28). These activities show the heartless personality of the Nazis. The people had two options, either to do what the S.S. told them to do or to die with everyone related to them. A golden rule that the Nazis followed stated if an individual lagged, the people who surrounded him would get in trouble (Langer 5). “Are you crazy? We were told to stand. Do you want us all in trouble?”(Wiesel 38). S.S guards struck fear in their hostages, which means they will obey without questioning what the Nazis told them to do due to their fear of death. Sometimes, S.S. would punish the Jews for their own sin, but would not explain their sin to the other Jews. For example, Idek punished Wiesel f...
Many extremely cruel and torturous things took place inside Auschwitz. Children, visibly pregnant women, and the elderly were often murdered upon arrival to Auschwitz. The Nazis did this because women and children were unable to endure the harsh labor that the Nazis wanted to put the Jews through, so they would inevitably be killed anyways. This is very cruel, not just because the women, children, and elderly were brutally murdered, but because this tore apart families within the camp; people had to live with the fact that their loved ones had been killed by Nazis. If children survived the initial separation, medical experiments were often performed on them by Dr. Josef Mengele, who was the main doctor in the camp, such as being put in pressure chambers, castrated or sterilized, and being frozen to death. This shows that the Nazis clearly didn’t care about how they treated their hostages. This proves one of the ways that the Nazi officers were inhumane and that the camp was a place filled with torture and death.
Synopsis – Hitler’s Willing Executioners is a work that may change our understanding of the Holocaust and of Germany during the Nazi period. Daniel Goldhagen has revisited a question that history has come to treat as settled, and his researches have led him to the inescapable conclusion that none of the established answers holds true. Drawing on materials either unexplored or neglected by previous scholars, Goldhagen presents new evidence to show that many beliefs about the killers are fallacies. They were not primarily SS men or Nazi Party members, but perfectly ordinary Germans from all walks of life, men who brutalized and murdered Jews both willingly and zealously. “They acted as they did because of a widespread, profound, unquestioned, and virulent anti-Semitism that led them to regard the Jews as a demonic enemy whose extermination was not only necessary but also just.”1 The author proposes to show that the phenomenon of German anti-Semitism was already deep-rooted and pervasive in German society before Hitler came to power, and that there was a widely shared view that the Jews ought to be eliminated in some way from German society. When Hitler chose mass extermination as the only final solution, he was easily able to enlist vast numbers of Germans to carry it out.
Over 3,000 twin children were killed by Josef Mengele. A Holocaust twin survivor shares their accounts during the Holocaust. She says”my brother had multiple experiments, ranging from amputations to body part transplants.” She never saw her brother every again after these tragic. Such cruelty is unimaginable in some peoples eyes. This was not to Josef Mengele, these events can truly express who Dr. Mengele was as a person. These tragic occurrences come in a wide range of danger whether its from body experiments to biomedical testing. While Josef Mengele participated in the Nazi Genocide, one can see the tragic events that he created.
During the summer of 1941, Chancellor Adolf Hitler initialized “The Final Solution'; to the “Jewish Question';. Hitler started this program because he wanted to create a highly centralized state and one for the master race, Germans. Exterminating Jews was, for Hitler, the only way to create a perfect Germany because it would eliminate the ‘malignant tumors’, the race that caused Germany to lose World War One. Hitler’s decision to start exterminating Jews changed the course of history. In the end, over 6,000,000 Jews were killed and a Jewish state known as Israel, evolved.
January 30th, 1933 was the day thousands of lives were affected greatly. Adolf Hitler began as the Chancellor of Germany. Hitler and his newly founded army, were always viewed as the true killers of the innocent Jews. Many did not notice the people who actually did a great deal of the killing, the doctors that is. There were a number of doctors from the Holocaust that are known for horrific killing but one stands out above the rest. Dr. Josef Mengele is the one that most people know about. He is the one that is known for his antics in the killing of Jews. He can’t be compared to the others because what he did was like no other.
Ordinary men have the capacity to commit extraordinary crimes and on April 11, 1961, Adolf Eichmann, an ordinary looking man, faced trial for the murder of five million Jews. Adolf Eichmann served in the Nazi party as their expert on Jewish matters. During the Nuremberg trials that took place years before Eichmann’s trial, many witnesses testified to the control Eichmann had over the implementation of the final solution. SS Captain Wisliceny worked under Eichmann in Hungary in 1944 and he proclaimed that Eichmann said, “he would jump into his grave laughing, because of the feeling that he had five million people on his conscience, gave him extraordinary satisfaction’” (48). Also, Eichmann worked with the members of Jewish councils, and they claimed in earlier trials that he had a direct hand in the “Jewish Question” (49).

Most people in the world only think of one thing when the name Adolf Hitler is said. They think of the horrific thing he did to the non-Aryan population. Although these actions are terrible and unforgiveable, Hitler was not always that sort of person. He started his life in a much different way and was actually an extremely intelligent individual. He was innovative and brilliant, and had originally moved to Vienna to become an artist, but his intentions shifted into something much more sinister over time. Through an exploration of his life, it is easy to see that there is much more to Hitler then just the Holocaust.
One of the most demented doctors of the Nazi era went by the name of Josef Mengele. This was because of the gruesome experiments he conducted on woman, men, and children. Mengele wasn't always part of the Nazi culture. In fact, a lot of people don't seem to know how he ended up living the life that he did. Mengele started his career saving lives and helping people, not destroying them. So what caused him to change his ways so drastically? How could someone find it so easy to cause somebody else so much pain and agony?
If This Is a Man or Survival in Auschwitz), stops to exist; the meanings and applications of words such as “good,” “evil,” “just,” and “unjust” begin to merge and the differences between these opposites turn vague. Continued existence in Auschwitz demanded abolition of one’s self-respect and human dignity. Vulnerability to unending dehumanization certainly directs one to be dehumanized, thrusting one to resort to mental, physical, and social adaptation to be able to preserve one’s life and personality. It is in this adaptation that the line distinguishing right and wrong starts to deform. Primo Levi, a survivor, gives account of his incarceration in the Monowitz- Buna concentration camp.
