Although there is a fair amount of famous arkansans in our World History I’ve chose to do Johnny Cash “The Man in Black” an outstanding singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Johnny R. Cash was born in a little small town of Kingsland, in the hill country of southern Arkansas on February 26, 1932. Johnny cash is the son of Ray and Carrie Rivers Cash, he's also the brother of Tommy, Jack, Reba, Joanne, Margaret Louise, and Roy Cash. Life was difficult for Johnny and his family when the Great Depression destroyed the fragile agriculture economy of the region, Johnny’s parents, Ray and Carrie Cash, could barely earn enough to feed their seven children. He joined the air force in 1950 and trained in Texas where he met his first wife and married in June 1968-2003. After his service and discharge, he formed a band and landed a record deal (Biography.com Editors). Johnny’s childhood was quite normal he was known as John, or J.R. His father was a violent alcoholic, who beat Gacy frequently during his violent outbursts. Gacy loved his father despite his violent temper and homophobic nature. Throughout his childhood, Gacy strove to make his stern father proud of him, but seldom received his approval. This friction between father and son was constant throughout his childhood and adolescence.
John Trudell was born in Ohama, Nebraska on february 15,1946 where he was raised in small towns in Northern Nebraska near the southeast corner of South Dakota. The tribe he associates himself with is the Santee Sioux tribe (Nichols). In 1963, John was 17 years old in high school when he was called up to the principals office and was told that he had a lot of potential but that he needed to study hard to make something of himself. John felt disrespected because he felt like he had already made something of himself so after he left the meeting, he dropped out of school and this is when he joins the U.S. Navy. He served during the early years of the Vietnam War until 1967, where he would then go to college at San Bernadino Valley College in San Bernardino, California to study radio and broadcasting (Nichols). Years after that he will become a Native American Activist while joining two organizations named The Indians of All Tribes and the American Indian Movement.

James was often left alone while his father traveled to turpentine camps selling tar for a living. James recalls the times he spent alone walking around in the woods looking for doodlebugs, and playing a harmonica his father gave him. Johnny once was a teen who wasn't cowardly, and stood up for his gang. He was a good man in a rumble and kept his mouth shut around the police, but things changed when he was jumped by the Socs. The assault left him more anxious than ever, and ended up carrying a six-inch switchblade in his back pocket, despite that he was the most law-abiding of the gang. In addition, Johnny didn't do well in school, he had failed a year in school and never made good grades (Hinton 65). But even so, Johnny is more than a quiet, anxious kid who does poorly in school. Notably, when Ponyboy and Johnny were hiding in the church, the pair occasionally read a book called Gone with the Wind in order to pass the time. While they were reading, Ponyboy remarked, "It amazed me how Johnny could get more meaning out of some of the stuff in there than I could--- I was supposed to be the deep one... and I guess his teachers thought he was just plain dumb. Before J.R.R. was born, his father, whose name was Arthur, worked for a very well known and prosperous bank in England. In an effort to cut back and make more money the bank fired him. Arthur was courting a young woman, by the name of Mabel, but before he could marry her he had to prove to Mabel’s father that he was going to be able to support her for the rest of her life. While looking for a job as a bank clerk he looked to the colonies of England, and he found a job in a bank in South Africa as a financial clerk. When he had established himself in the bank he sent for Mabel. They were married in 1981 in a Catholic Church in South Africa. The town in which they lived was called Bloemfontein, South Africa. This was where they wanted their children to grow up.
