Although there is a fair amount of famous arkansans in our World History I’ve chose to do Johnny Cash “The Man in Black” an outstanding singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Johnny R. Cash was born in a little small town of Kingsland, in the hill country of southern Arkansas on February 26, 1932. Johnny cash is the son of Ray and Carrie Rivers Cash, he's also the brother of Tommy, Jack, Reba, Joanne, Margaret Louise, and Roy Cash. Life was difficult for Johnny and his family when the Great Depression destroyed the fragile agriculture economy of the region, Johnny’s parents, Ray and Carrie Cash, could barely earn enough to feed their seven children. He joined the air force in 1950 and trained in Texas where he met his first wife and married in June 1968-2003. After his service and discharge, he formed a band and landed a record deal (Biography.com Editors). Johnny’s childhood was quite normal he was known as John, or J.R. He had spent the bulk of the next fifteen years out in the fields, working alongside his parents, brothers, and sister. He then graduate High School and left Arkansas in Pontiac, Michigan. Cash was on the road three-hundred nights a year, many many concerts all that might not seem like a lot of work, but it took a toll on his life. His schedule and the pressure that he had faced is what took a toll, drugs and alcohol were frequent tour companions while Vivan took care of their family. Vivan had then decided to fill for divorce in 1966 Cash’s turning point came in 1967 when Johnny met singer, songwriter June Carter she helped straighten up his life and kicked his drug habit and became a devout Christian fundamentalist (Biography.
