Heroism is not something you’re born with, it is a characteristic you adapt into as you grow. A heroic act is caused by adrenaline, or just pure heroism. If you are pumped up with adrenaline, you aren’t thinking and just do it. On the other hand, if it’s an act of heroism the person is putting their lives second to the ones in need of saving. A person who saves someone is usually a nicer one, others may save someone if they feel guilty for something did and has put others in danger. Taking an example of Johnny Cade, in the novel who is kind, gentle and nonchalant but save the lives of not just their friends but any given person. Where if we take Dallas Winston also known as Dally to the gang, is tough and heartless saves his friends only and …show more content…
Hinton suggests that if a person goes out of their way to help others no matter how small the act, it is heroic.
Without a doubt, Johnny shows that he is the most heroic of the Greaser gang in the novel. Johnny lives at home with his abusive father and a verbally abusive mother, he has a rough life. He is truly at home when he is hanging out with the gang. In the gang there’s Dally, Two-Bit, Steve, PonyBoy, Sodapop and Darry are Pony’s brothers they are all known as Greasers. Greasers are known for starting fights, stealing and carry switchblades also called hoods or JD’s. In the Outsiders, we see another gang named as the Socs. They’re rich, drive nice cars and get good grades. Socs we see in the novel are Cherry, who is sweet and nice, her Boyfriend is Bob a mean Soc who is friends with Randy. Randy is mean aswell, drives a nice mustang and has a girlfriend named Marcia,

Eight months before the storyline takes place his parents died in a vehicular crash. Now Darry is the man of the house and the guardian of two teenage boys. Darry works in the carpentry business to support himself and his brothers. Steve and Two-bit are usually at the house messing around. Pony becomes a savior to Johnny after he leaves the city with him but is more based on friendship. A better example of when he is a hero is, when the church is on fire in chapter six. "We were having a school picnic up here and the first thing we knew, the place is burning up. Thank goodness this is a wet season and the old thing is worthless anyway." This is an example of pure heroism and guilt because they started the fire and wanted to save the kids in the church. Johnny and Pony went in to save the kids, after they got the kids out the window, Johnny was hit by a beam that broke his spine and ended up killing him. Pony risked his life to save the lives of another, that is
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are many different people with different personalities. There are Greasers and Socs. If you to see a Greaser you would think that they are mean cold hearted people, and if you are to see a Soc you would think that they are nice loving people. That is not entirely true. Everyone has a sweet spot. Dally is the tuffist greaser but is also gallant and loyal.
...t like the rest of the Greasers he wouldn’t kill or nothing no matter what. They could of said Johnny not no killer but don’t push him because he will go off but instead they made it seem like he was a kid that lived in a household that didn’t care about him and that he was a punk and never stood up for himself.
He is smart, and gets good grades in school. This is purposefully mentioned several times within the story, and people tend to be surprised to learn that he is a Greaser. In addition, some Greasers are nicer than people tend to think. When the church burned down, Ponyboy and Johnny run in to save the children without a second thought. They acted with selflessness, putting the safety of the children above their own. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, Ponyboy is asked if he and Johnny are "professional heroes". He responds by telling the entire story of how they're Greasers and Johnny is wanted for murder, shocking the man in the ambulance. It is difficult for him to believe that a group of Greasers would do something so heroic. Johnny dies as a direct result of their actions, but neither Ponyboy nor Johnny regretted what they
Boom! Johnny drops to the floor. Kids are screaming. This is when Johnny is a hero for the second time in the story, The Outsiders. Johnny is a hero because he saved kids from a fire and Johnny saved Pony from dying.
Johnny is the hero because he saved the lives of multiple people by putting his own life at risk. One example is when Johnny and Ponyboy ran away. While they were running away Bob and his gang decided to jump Johnny and Pony for stealing their girls. They had Johnny on the ground beating him up and they were drowning Ponyboy. Johnny was really scared and he didn’t want Ponyboy to die so they grabbed the switchblade he had in his pocket and he killed Bob . So what he did was worth it because all the socs ran away in there Mustang. Another reason that Johnny is the hero is because he saved
From looking at the two gangs, both the Greasers and the Socs. The book The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton is able to show that the Greasers were the true disgrace and a menace to society. The Greasers were able to show this from their looks, their behavior, and the choices that they make.
The Outsiders by SE Hinton The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a great coming-of-age novel that is about gangs, violent but also at the same time about love and brother ship. In the book, the society suddenly thinks the greasers, Pony, Johnny and Dally, are heroes. That really got me thinking. What is a hero?
The Greasers and the Socs in S.E. Hinton’s novel “The Outsiders” aren't as different as you think. The Greasers are low class “hoodlums” who are part of a brotherhood like gang. The Socs are a large group of wealthy teen who have too much time on their hands. Both of them rivals and from complete opposite walks of life. Greasers and Socs may seem like complete opposites on the outside, but actually have more in common than you would think. They both have faced stereotyping and have a rough family life.
There is a hero in us all. A hero is someone who risks their own life to save or do good for others. Ponyboy is a hero because he risked his life to save children from a burning church. Johnny is a hero even though he killed someone it was to save his friend’s life but he also saved children from a burning church. Dally has been arrested, picks fights, and drinks, but when it comes to the people he is close with he has his soft spots for them. All bad boys have a good side.
The first Greaser that I believe is a hero was Ponyboy because he was mentally tough. An example is when he was still attending school and getting straight A’s. Another heroic act was when he stood by Johnny’s side after Johnny murdered Bob, the Soc. He ran away with him while risking the chance of getting into trouble. In chapter six, there was an important scene where Ponyboy was a real hero by being brave and tough. "I'll get them, don't worry!" I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. "I'll get them. You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on." (Pg. 78) This was when they heard the children’s screams come from inside the church. Ponyboy ran in the burning church and saved the children without hesitation. These are some reasons why Ponyboy was a hero.
Dally was hard, but this incident would eventually change him for the better. The only thing Dally loved, Johnny, gave Ponyboy words of advice for Dally, “Listen,
I feel as though the novel The outsiders has many themes, but the most important one is belonging. The greasers are a group of poor, low class youth that don’t have much and live on the wrong side of town. They are always held accountable for their actions. On the other hand, the Socs are a bunch of high class youth that are very privileged and aren’t held accountable for their immature actions.
For instance, “It had taken more than nerve for him to say what he'd said to Dally—Johnny worshiped the ground Dallas walked on, and I had never heard Johnny talk back to anyone, much less his hero.” (pg. 24) This means that even though Johnny respected Dally because he was there for him when his parents weren’t, he took a risky step and stopped him from doing something wrong. By doing this, it shows that Johnny isn’t afraid to protect others like Cherry when the situation involved his friend Dally. More importantly, “I swear, you three are the bravest kids I’ve seen in a long time. First you and the blacked-haired kid climbing in that window, and then the tough-looking kid going back in to save him. Mrs. O'Briant and I think you were sent straight from heaven. Or are you just professional heroes or something?” (pg. 95) As shown, it is important to realize that Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally wouldn’t only defend their gang members, but they would also endanger their own lives in order to save others. It proves that their act of heroism can be used in all situations. No matter what situation they are in, the Greasers use their heroic actions towards not only their gang members but other people
The Socs and the Greasers have a feud that has been going on for a long length of time. In the story, S.E. Hinton created characters that try to portray themselves as tough in the public eye, when actually they are normal human beings with a healthy spirit. After Johnny was hurt,
I feel that Dally and Darry had the greatest passion for the others. Dally would protect the others in any situation. Dally even helped Johnny and Ponyboy leave town when they had killed someone. Dally was a fatherly figure to the younger ones, and would do anything to protect them. Darry was also very passionate about the gang, especially his brothers.
