He argues the war was due to both sides not sharing the same beliefs, he then goes further to say there were other causes to the war, like the war being a show of who was stronger, Gaddis states on page six of The Cold War A NEW HISTORY,”The answer to all of these questions is much the same: that the war had been won by a coalition whose principal members were already at war- ideologically and geopolitically if not militarily with one another.” Both the United States and the Soviet Union could not coexist together for the simple fact that the that they did not share the same beliefs and the way both of their governments were run was drastically different. …show more content…

Gaddis’s overview spans from the end of World War II to the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Gaddis analyzes and presents some of the key events of the Cold War, including the arms race, development of nuclear weapons, space race, and many more.
