Imagine for one second that you have an idea, invention, or business plan that you believe could change the world forever. That’s the dream every entrepreneur has, to have an invention or a business that will be successful and change the world. In 1836, a young blacksmith by the name of John Deere, moved to Grand Detour, Illinois from Vermont seeking a new start. In Grand Detour, farmers were having difficulty with the hard, sticky soil sticking to the plow. Deere, being a blacksmith, believed that a plow that was polished and properly shaped could rid the soil by itself. In 1837, that idea became reality, Deere produced the broken saw blade steel plow. The plow caught on quickly and in 1841 the production of the plow was up to a mere 100. Two years later, he moved the company to Moline, Illinois where coal, water power, and cheaper transportation were all readily available. In 1850, roughly 1600 plows were produced, along with other pieces of equipment to go with the plow; starting the world renowned company, Deere & Company or more commonly known as, John Deere. Every entrepreneur has a dream for a life changing invention or a business opportunity that will change the world, John Deere happened to invent the steel plow at the right time to help America expand and develop and while leaving a company with a legacy that has continued to last for more than 176 years.
The world is filled with many ambitious people looking to make a product to help the world and make a living for themselves and their families. These people are known as entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur is someone who organizes and operates a business or businesses while running the risk of losing everything to make money. One might ask why there is a risk ...

...hat his company was like today, there is no doubt that he would be very happy with what he would be seeing. He would see his company doing exactly what they did back in the mid-19th century; helping farmers produce crops faster and more efficient and helping the world to grow and expand. John Deere would be proud. John Deere was once that young entrepreneur, with a vision to have a world-changing invention. Doing whatever it would take to be successful and provide for his family. He may have never dreamed that Deere & Company would transform into a multi-billion dollar company, but it did. Next time you are asked who helped transform, grow, and expand America, answer with presidents and politicians if you wish, but reconsider and think, they did help, but one man single handily did it alone and earned himself a place in history forever. That man is John Deere.
On their path to success, sometimes Joh Deere and Lewis Latimer had similar concepts. Both of them started innovating on an important idea, using their strengths. When John Deere saw that the soil was too hard to plough, he made his plow out of polished metal and gave the bottom a curved angle, solving the problems of many farmers. Being a blacksmith, he was able to find
An entrepreneur is an individual that organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking a greater financial risk to do so. They bring innovative products or services to the marketing world. They start a business on their own agenda and usually spend plenty of money supporting their company. Many entrepreneurs have characteristics of being confident, drive, and responsible.
Although some may argue these industrialists were “robber barons,” these men were, in reality, “captains of industry” utilizing modern business practices and technology which provided both cheap products and job opportunities for the public, as well as becoming large-scale philanthropists and contributing much to American society. Carnegie became the head of the steel industry by founding the Carnegie steel company in the 1870s. He employed the use of new technology which modernized his business strategies. The use of modern technology such as the Bessemer-process among other inventions led to increased productivity, and, in turn, cheaper goods for the American public. These innovations also led to an efficient mass production of steel for railroads, positively influencing transportation as well as westward expansion.
John Deere was born in Vermont in 1804. His father went to England to find a job in 1808 and never came back, so he was primarily raised by his mother with his three brothers and his one sister. He was an educated man, and had always been fascinated with blacksmithing. At the age of 17, Deere got his first apprenticeship as a blacksmith in Middlebury. He was so talented, that with just a three year apprenticeship he was able to gain so much knowledge and start his own blacksmith company in 1825. Blacksmithing in Vermont wasn’t as substantial as in the West because the soil wasn’t as hard, so when Deere’s business wasn’t flourishing he packed up and moved to the West.
John Deere is not only a name brand of equipment, but also he is a persons that created many different types of equipment. John Deere had built the company that many people know of which is John Deere.
John Deere was an American blacksmith and manufacturer who founded Deere and Company. Deere and Company has become one of the largest and leading agricultural and construction equipment manufacturers in the world. John Deere invented the first commercially successful steel plow in 1837, which began his timeline of success. I selected this individual because I am amazed by his accomplishments that changed “the face of agriculture for all time” (Our Company). “In 1837, John Deere, blacksmith and inventor, had little more than a blacksmith shop, a piece of discarded polished steel, and an idea that would help farmers, changing the face of agriculture for all time” (Our Company).
By 1840 Deere produced forty plows, in 1841, seventy-five, in 1842, one hundred, and in 1843, four hundred. For today's standards these are low, however back then the farmers weren’t sold on the plows resilience and it was hard to buy these plows that were going for ten to twelve dollars. His reputation flourished as everyone knew he made superior plows. In 1834, he created a partnership with Robert Tate and John Gould and moved to Moline. The farming faction here was better because they were near water towers and an unlimited variety of coal. This partnership allowed him to enter marketing and sales as they created a new company building that started to produce 700 plows per year. He began to create everyday tools, and equipments for the requests of the farmers. In 1849, his plows were rapidly produced, manufacturing inventions were being introduced and he adjusted to the new technology innovations. A work group produced 2136 plows a year with the new equipment being brought and the firm began handing the seymour grain. This was important to John Deere’s success because he was expanding from being just a plow
Henry Ford was the pioneer of the American automobile industry. He was born in 1863 near Dearborn, Michigan. Forty years later he started Ford Motor Company with the help of Thomas Edison. In 1908, Henry Ford forever changed the world with his Model T. Ford was known as a revolutionary person for not only making the automobile inexpensive but also for teaching workers proper skills and paying them steady wages. (Henry Ford Bio, 1) Only a mere six years later, Ford changed the world again with his invention of the moving assembly line in 1914. With the modern assembly line he was now able to mass produce his Model T. Nearly everything mass produced in the world is assembled on an assembly line thanks to Ford’s 100 year old idea. Not only did Ford make life easier for civilians by giving them affordable access to
In the late 19th century as America was developing into a more industrial country, individual men had visions to have a great impact on the nation. Andrew Carnegie initially, before the Civil War, began to invest in transportation, specifically
Henry Ford was one of the most important and influential inventors and businessmen in the short history of America. He revolutionized the business world and he changed forever the efficiency of factories around the world. One of the reasons that Henry Ford can be considered such an important man is that his ideas and concepts are still used today. Boron on July 30, in the year of 1863, Henry Ford was the oldest child of the family. His parents, William and Mary Ford, were “prosperous farmers” in his hometown of Dearborn. While they we’re well off for farmers, Ford certainly wasn’t spoiled and fed from silver spoons. Ford was just like any other typical young boy during the rural nineteenth century. From early on there we’re signs that Henry was going to be something more than a farmer. He looked with interest upon the machinery that his father and himself used for their farming, and looked with disdain at the rigorous chores of a farmer. In the year 1879, Henry being a meager 16 years old, he moved to the city of Detroit where he would work as an apprentice machinist. Henry would remain in Detroit working and learning about all varieties of machines. Although he occasionally came back to visit Dearborn, he mostly stayed in Detroit, picking up more and more valuable knowledge. This apprenticeship allowed him to work in the factories of Detroit and learn what a hard working blue-collar job was like. When he did return to Dearborn he was always tearing apart and rebuilding his fathers machines, along with the dreaded farm chores. Henry Ford was a hard worker and that was proven by him getting fired from one of his jobs in Detroit because the older employees we’re mad at him because he was finishing his repairs in a half hour rather than the usual five hours. Clara Bryant would represent the next step in now twenty-five year old Henry Ford’s life. The two lovers we’re married in 1888 and would endure good times as well as bad. In order to support his new wife Henry was forced to work the land as he ran a sawmill that was given to him by his father. His father actually attempted to bribe Henry to stay in the farming business as he gave him the land only under the condition that he would continue on as a farmer.
Henry Ford was one of the principle illustrators of Scientific Management. He revolutionized the concept of mass production and changed the world by developing new, innovative business practices that enhanced efficiency and productivity. He created a manufacturing model that marked an era and led industrial manufacturing to continuously grow around the world, a model that is known as Fordism. Fordism brought success and innovation, not only to the whole American manufacturing industry, but also all over the world between the years 1903 and 1926 (Smith, 2011). However, these practices were not always as perfect, as there are many drawbacks within his practices that influenced both Ford Motor Company and the motor industry as a whole, which brought
Imagine that you are not that rich or not very poor. The very next day you are driving off the lot with a brand new Model T by Henry Ford. The car that is affordable for everyone to buy and it being safe to drive everyday and everywhere. Henry Ford led to the best car manufacturer in the world. The world knows this company because of how Henry Ford got his company to where it is now, how it is a unique company, and it rebounded time and time again. Ford was and is the greatest car company. It is here to stay.
John Deere has invented some amazing technology in the past couple years. Technology that can change the agriculture life forever. I have noticed in the past couple years of living on the farm that it is on of the hardest jobs on the bodies of human beings. Farmers in the past could only make working in the fields around 40 years then they were done. Usually their backs go out or develop some type of cancer from being in the fields all day everyday. What happens in the field stays in the field, except cancer that shit stays with you.
An entrepreneur is someone with the capacity to lead a business to success and is willing to take the risks in order to accomplish their goals. (Dollonger, 2002). Starting a new business is an example of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are very important in order for any business to succeed, however, only some entrepreneurs will succeed in life. Here are some of the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is an important aspect of social, economic and community life. It can be viewed as a critical factor to economic growth as well as a way of addressing unemployment (Nolan, 2003).Entrepreneurs are people who are persistently focused on identifying opportunities, they seek to create something worthwhile while taking into account foreseeable risk and rewards associated with the efforts (Nolan, 2003). Furthermore, entrepreneurs are frequently understood to be individuals who discover market needs and establish new business to meet those identified opportunities. The following assignment will firstly discuss the types of entrepreneurship, secondly it will discuss the reasons people become entrepreneurs, and thirdly it will discuss the importance of entrepreneurship.
