taken later that day show show Travis Alexander bleeding on his bathroom floor at around 5:30. Jodi Arias denied killing Travis Alexander, and changed her story a few times.
The police discovered that Arias had rented a car 100 miles from her home in California on June 2, 2008. The car was returned without car mats, had stains on the interior and had been driven around 2,800 miles when she returned it. Her DNA was also found in a bloody hand print on the wall in Alexander's house, and a gun had also been reported missing from her grandparents after Jodi Arias had visited about a week before the muder.
The jury took only 15 hours to find Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. Arias' first death penalty trial ended with a mistrial on May 23, 2013. Eight jurors had voted for the death penalty, and four for a life sentence. The prosecution decided to re-try the penalty phase in order to get a death sentence Arias. The trial is currently
Eva Dugan was sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Andrew J Mathis. She was the first and only woman to be executed in the state of Arizona. Eva Dugan went to the gallows on February 21, 1930. It was the first time that women were allowed to witness a hanging in Arizona. There were five other women in the death chamber. When the trap door beneath her was release the rope around her neck decapitated her and her head rolled and stopped at the feet of the spectators many of whom fainted. Eva Dugan was the last person to executed by hanging in
Arizona. Jodi Arias' death penalty re-trial began on October 20, 2014. The trial is expected to last until November 2014. If Arias is sentenced to death she will join Shawna Ford and Wendi Andriano as the only three women on death row in Arizona. If the death sentences are carried out. one of them would become the first woman executed by the State of Arizona since Eva Dugan in 1930.
A review of the evidence suggests that Anna’s death was an accident. The blood found at the crime scene was that of Anna Garcia. While the fingerprint of Alex was located at the scene, the results show that he was at the house the night prior to the death. The pills found at the crime scene were aspirin. The time of death was 7:00am which was corroborated by her rectal temperature. The evidence points to Anna being the only one in the house, thus, ruling out homicide and other suspects being charged
They found Casey Anthony, who was charged with first degree murder of her 3-year-old, not guilty. While she was not guilty of murder, she was convicted on counts four through seven for false information given to the police. The judge sentenced her to one year in county jail for each one of the four counts, but she was released 10 days after she received 1043 days credit. If I was part of the jury I would have said she was guilty of murdering her daughter. Even if she did not kill her, she is still part of the reason why she died. Casey neglected her child either way and did not report the crime to the police until someone else did. I am shocked that the visual evidence did not convince the jury that she was guilty. From the strand of hair in the trunk that matched the past child’s hair, to the extensive research on chloroform found on all web browsers, it was very evident that she did or was at least part of murdering her
I chose to explain Casey Anthony’s behavior using the eight stage theory of identity and psychosocial development by Erik Erikson. If Casey claim against her father and brother is true about them sexually molesting her throughout her childhood, then that would have played a big role in her life and also the fact that she and her mother had a terrible relationship with a lot fighting and abuse toward one another didn’t help her case. If we take a look at Erik’s fourth stage industry vs. inferiority, it states that during this stage school aged children are very social stage of development and if they experience unresolved feelings of inadequacy and inferiority among our peers, we can have serious problems in terms of competence and self-esteem.
Even though the prosecution presented evidence to the court, the only clear-cut hard fact the prosecution had against Anthony was that she failed to file a report for her missing daughter Caylee and that when she finally did a month after her daughter had gone missing, she proceeded to lie profusely to the authorities on the events that took place. The prosecution focused highly on the forensic evidence of decay located in the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car. The use of a cadaver dog to search the vehicle led investigators to be able to determine that a decomposing body had been stored in the trunk of the car. The forensics department used an air sampling procedure on the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car, also indicating that human decomposition and traces of chloroform were in-fact present. Multiple witnesses described what they considered to be an overwhelming odor that came from inside the trunk as it where the prosecution believes Caylee’s decomposing body was stowed. Several items of evidence were ruled out to be the source of the odor, as experts were able to rule out the garbage bag and two chlorine containers located in the trunk as the source. The prosecution alleged that Casey Anthony used chloroform to subdue her daughter and then used duct-tape to seal the nose and mouth of Caylee shut, inevitably causing her to suffocate. Based off the
The Casey Anthony case was one that captured the heart of thousands and made it to the headline of national TV talk shows, newspapers, radio stations and social media networks for months. The root of the case was due to a clash between the parental responsibilities, the expectations that went with being a parent, and the life that Casey Anthony wanted to have. The case was in respect to the discovering the cause of Casey’s two-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony’s, death; however the emphasis was placed on Casey and her futile lies, which resulted in a public outcry. The purpose of this essay is to delve into the public atmosphere and inquire about why the media and social media collectively attacked the case by uncovering the content of the case, the charges that were laid, and later dismissed, the “performers” of the trial and the publics reaction. It will further discuss how it defies universal ideologies and how the media represents this. The discussion of the complexities of the case and its connotations will incorporate Stuart Hall’s Representation and the Media, Robert Hariman’s Performing the Laws, What is Ideology by Terry Eagleton, The Body of the Condemned by Michael Foucault, and a number of news articles, which will reveal disparate ideas of representation in the media, and the role of the performers of the law and their effect on the understanding of the case.
The Jodi Arias Story, Picture Perfect, is about a girl who becomes obsessed with her on and off again boyfriend Travis Alexander. When she finds out he is not being monogamous her frustrations lead her to murdering Travis. His body was found in his home in Mesa, Arizona and even though evidence pointed to Jodi Arias it was going to be a long journey before any verdict would be agreed upon in this case. His murder was very brutally done; he had been shot in the face, stabbed in the heart, and slashed across the throat (Hogan, 2014). The death was a shock to many because he was loved as a motivational speaker and as a friend. Following his death would be investigations with the prime suspect being Jodi Arias. Although Travis Alexander didn’t deserve to die in his relationship with Jodi, he had been culpable in provoking her stalker-like behavior. Shanna Hogan even stated, “So while I think he suspected there was something wrong with her he didn’t realize the depth of her mental issues until it was too late”.
Anna Garcia was found lying facedown in the entry to her home at around 9:56 am. The EMT and police were notified by Anna’s neighbor, who called 911 because she wasn’t answering her phone or the door. It was determined that her approximate time of death was 7:00 am. CSI team canvassed the scene and found a syringe, orange liquid (assumed to be orange juice) by her left hand, as well as hair and blood on a fallen table to her left. Several people were persons of interest in this case. They include Anna’s former husband (Alex Garcia), the neighbour that called 911 and was recently involved with her (Doug Greene), her ex-husband’s new wife (Erica Piedmont), and her friend/business partner (Lucy Leffingwell).
Caylee received no justice for what had happed to her on June 9, 2008. This case went on for years, years of trails and new evidence. Casey gave Florida Authorities the run around. 400 pieces of evidence was collected is the Casey case. When Casey first reached out to the state of Florida police she gave the authorities several of false information on her daughter missing case. She gave information as if Caylee first was kidnapped by a baby sitter on July 15th. Caylee remains were found just a few miles from her family’s home on December 2011. Her little body was found with duct tape to her mouth and the chemical chloroform in her mouth. They first thought that Caylee had drowned in the swimming pool on June 16th, 2008 and her grandfather, George disposed of the body of the statement Casey had given. That didn’t last long until Casey focused on trying to get her father George being at fault of this whole case. Casey tried to lead the jury to believe that she had emotional issues due to her father, George Anthony raping her as a youth and her dysfunctional upbringing as a
Albert Cohen says that girls’ only strain to marry well, and considering in the direction that Alexander’s and Arias’ relationship was headed, marriage was out of the question. Prosecutors say that the death of Alexander was revenge because he wanted to see other people and was planning a trip to Mexico with his latest lover. Arias’ case does not reflect most female offenders but does reflect some. She killed for love. If she could not have Alexander then no one could. Many women do commit crime because of love, but they are also convicted of other things as
The Jodi Arias trial captured American attention very rapidly and soon become nearly the only thing on television news networks. The trial nearly monopolized Fox News for several months. There are several murders that happen every day in the United States, so how did this murder case gain so much attention? Because it contains many themes that are enticing to the American population. According to Elliott McLaughlin at CNN.com, “It's rife with sex, lies and digital images, many of them naughty, and the dueling attorneys are lively -- nay, bombastic -- in their arguments...
The Miranda v. Arizona case not just for the case itself, but also for the significance of the case it had after the case. The Miranda is a nationwide that has changed law enforcement and has changed the rights of an individual. The Miranda rights law took affect after a man named Ernesto Miranda was under arrest by police officers. As police arrested Ernesto Miranda they didn’t read him his rights. Ernest Miranda lived in Phoenix, Arizona where he was charged with rape, kidnapping and robbery. Ernesto Miranda was a criminal, however he was not informed of his legal rights before the arrest. Ernesto Miranda also had a history with mental problems and didn’t finish his high school education. (PBS 2015)
It’s a dark night at the local industrial park in North Attenborough, Massachusetts, for Odin Lloyd this is his last night, suddenly boom boom boom are the sound of gunshots and that was the noise Lloyd heard before he took his final breath. Famous New England Patriot’s football player Aaron Hernandez is the number one suspect for Lloyd’s death. Why would a famous NFL player commit murder? It’s not very frequent to hear about NFL players committing heinous crimes such as murder. Aaron Hernandez knows Odin Lloyd through his fiancée Shayanna Jenkins, Shayanna’s sister is dating Lloyd. A few days before Lloyd was killed, Hernandez sent a text message to his sister saying “You can’t trust anyone anymore”. Apparently Lloyd knew something he was not supposed to know and that was Hernandez’s motive to kill.
The jury finds Jodi Arias guilty of first degree murder of Travis Alexander. There is a substantial amount of evidence against her. Jodi’s alibi does not prove her to be anywhere else at the time of the murder. Finally, Jodi has changed her story a couple of times over the course of this trial. Now the question is, should she receive the death penalty? Here is an overview of evidence and the decision shall be made after.
I discovered another post that contained more information on Aaron Hernandez. The post states that he was discovered hanging himself in his cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center is Shirley, Massachusetts around 3:05 a.m. this morning. He hung himself using a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. He was transported to a near hospital, but was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. I wonder if his suicide relates to his serving for killing Odin Lloyd in 2013. Sending my condolences to his fiancée.
During this trial I found myself going back and forth between whose side I was on due to the fact that both sides had valid points. When it came to the jury deliberation, I was originally the only one whose verdict was voluntary manslaughter. The rest of my jurors all had the verdict of
