Chemical weapons (CW) are one of the major threats of WMD. Past CW attacks, including the 1995 Aum Shinrikyo sarin attacks, have taken place, illustrating just how catastrophic a CW attack can be. The CBRN threat posed by the group in the video “Japanese Sarin Cult” is that of a chemical attack. The chemical agent utilized in the attack was sarin nerve gas. Sarin, not only has been used in the past, but is currently being used in attacks in the Middle East; sarin nerve gas also has the potential to threaten the United States today. The threat posed by the group in the video “Japanese Sarin Cult” is that of the chemical weapon known as Sarin. Sarin is a nerve gas that can cause severe illness as well as lead to death. The “Japanese Sarin Cult” was known as Aum Shinrikyo. The initial plan was to release the sarin on the subway. Members of the cult possessed packages that contained liquid sarin and upon arriving at specified destinations they would puncture the packages with their feet and an umbrella handle (Wright 1999). On March 20, 1995, the sarin nerve gas was successfully released into the subway system in Tokyo, Japan. The effects of the gas attack resulted in 12 deaths, more than 50 illnesses, and thousands of individuals suffering from the enduring after effects …show more content…
and international security, and deserve greater attention from policymakers, the news media, and the general public” (Tucker 2009-2010, 29). There are numerous chemical agents that pose potential threats including military-grade, novel incapacitating, and toxic industrial agents (Tucker 2009-2010, 29). Although CW attacks may be more likely overseas, the threat to the homeland still exists. Even with the Chemical Weapon Convention (CWC), a convention that prohibits production, stockpiling, and distributions of CWs, chemical warfare poses a significant threat to the

The two chemical weapons that were used were: nerve agent and mustard gas. Nerve agent has two main classes that are Class G and Class V. Class V is more new, however less fatal. The specific nerve agent used by the Iraqis is Cyclosarin. Cyclosarin is an extremely toxic substance used as a chemical weapon, which is a member of Class G. Cyclosarin is the most dangerous gas out of both classes. It is known to have a sweet smell and is also flammable unlike other nerve gases. Mustard gas on the other hand is yellow and smells like garlic. Both gases cause death in minutes and have long lasting effects. These can include diseases and other horrible problems. Many of these diseases cannot be cured, for the cells have been damaged and cannot be repaired.
Both Naoe and Kieko resent each other because Naoe is unable to leave behind her Japanese traditions and culture, where as Keiko refuses to remain trapped in a state of confusion between two cultures. Consequently, Keiko actively works to diminish this polarity that exists between her Japanese “self” and Canadian “self” by refuting one of her “selves.” Keiko does this by avoiding Japanese food, the Japanese language, and Naoe. Keiko’s disdain for traditional Japanese food does not help close the distance between her and Naoe, specifically because Naoe’s fixation and obsession with Japanese food is evident throughout Chorus of Mushrooms. For example, the scenes in which Naoe is relishing food that her brother Shige, and his wife have sent her,

The 2001 anthrax attacks was one of the worst bio-weapon attacks on the US in history. The attacks where done through the mail. The anthrax was placed in envelopes with a letter and mailed from various locations to different people and organizations. The anthrax filled letters ended up killing 5 people, causing 17 to become sick and exposing anthrax it is believed to as many as 30,000 people. During the mail process spores of anthrax from the letters escaped and got on mailroom equipment exposing postal employees. If a person was exposed to enough anthrax and developed symptoms they typically died in a few days. Postal workers during the attacks where told that anthrax will appear as a white powder t...
On the day of the Columbine High School Massacre, previously to the attack both Erick D. Harris and Dylan B. Klebold placed a decoy bomb in a field; they had set the bombs to explode at 11:14 to distract police officials. The two boys then headed to the school and entered the commons shortly after 11:14 a.m. and went unnoticed carrying the big duffel bags with propane bombs inside of them. They placed the two twenty pound duffel bags in the cafeteria with the bombs set to explode at 11:17 a.m. They went back outside and armed themselves, they each strapped on an arsenal covered with a trench coat, a semiautomatic, a shotgun, and a backpack full of different types of bombs. The boys then set the timers on the bombs set inside each of their cars outside the school. The boys sat outside armed waiting outside for the bombs to explode and shoot any

Ricin assassination was a notorious strategy used in killing people during the Cold War. It is a poisonous substance which contains two elements. The two toxic elements act by killing body cells. When introduced into the human body, the first element enters the body cells. It creates a passage for the second toxic element which affects cells by hindering them from producing proteins. The inhibition of proteins causes the death of cells. Unlike other poisons, ricin reacts very slowly. People die several days after being exposed to the substance. Georgi Markov was one of the rebels in Bulgaria during the Cold War, and he became of victim of ricin poisoning.
While viewing the drawings, paintings, and descriptions the victimes of the A-bomb created, Berger starts forming his opinion on the tragedy. He eventually concludes that Japan was a victim of terrorism. However, unlike most terrorists who are from small countries, Japan's attacker was the most powerful nation in the world. America, the country that symbolizes peace and freedom, led the massacre on thousands of Japanese.

The Japanese had a secret research base called Unit 731. It was used to create the most dangerous chemical and biological weapons. They would test the chemical and biological weapons on prisoners of war. Maybe it was Unit 731 that was smuggled onto the Dutch ship, trying to go unnoticed. Seawater could have entered the ship, causing the dangerous gases to react, killing everyone on the ship.
