In 1804 Napoléon I instituted The Napoleonic Code. The code outlawed rights centered on birth, endorsed freedom of religion, and indicated that administration occupations should go to the utmost capable. In 1880 after the induction of the Napoleonic Code, same-sex sexual interaction was legalized in Japan. In the feudal era, Japan held a very strong relationship with the behavior of homosexual activity between men. There were strong indications of sexual activity being a rite of passage for some men as well as a pleasure and privilege to others. From male brothels to samurai mansions, homosexual acts between were very common and even observed in some parts of Japan.

Background
Creative allusions were used to illuminate the indications of male homosexuality such as, shudo – “the way of youth”, nanshoku – “male eros”, and nando – “the way of men”. During the feudal era of Japan, men having homosexual relationships with each other were as casual and common as drinking and hanging out with friends. It was an element of social life and youth. They're male only bath houses, tea houses, as well as the theatre. Many plays featured male actors who would do sexual acts with male actors who played as women on stage. The origin of homosexuality stems from the legend of a Japanese monk who ventures in China and comes back telling the wonders of pleasure that is received by male-male sexual interactions. For those who had already desired the flesh of another man, dreams were coming true as more men apparently were engaging in more open homosexual activity.

During the feudal era of Japan, men having homosexual relationships with each other were as spontaneous and mutual. Many shoguns and samurai relished the gratification of having young boys amused them after a conquest of a duty or the outcome of a prodigious combat. The tea houses held an atmosphere of selectiveness, while the bath houses held a fashion of generality. In some esteems, homosexual acts with younger men were reflected as a ritual path into manhood. Some believed the pleasure received from sex was actually a blessing from the fire god. An entire belief system and unity was been formed under the bond of the society.
