Jamaica can be seen as triumphant in their resistance to the discrimination and adversity that has been placed upon them through their history. Jamaica has always been recognized as an island with rich culture and love for the arts, as well as their daily living techniques. Jamaica is one of the most beautiful countries on earth and will always be cherished for their exclusive atmosphere.

History: The history of Jamaica has been through a tremendous journey throughout the past generations. Jamaica's history first started out with the native Taino Indians. The Taino Indians can be referred to “They were stone–age peoples who had migrated to Jamaica from the northern coast of South America.” (Embassy of Jamaica). The common interests of the people have a unique mix between the ties to their history and a glimpse of what is to come. A few aspects of Jamaican pop culture and common items of interest include the arts, sports, and leisure. Music is the form of art that is distinct in Jamaica and commonly recognized by the rest of the world. Reggae is the oldest but still most popular genre of Jamaican music. Other types of music include dancehall (a reggae, disco, and rap combination), jazz, calypso, gospel and soca (a mixture of US soul and calypso favored by the younger population). There is also a festival that occurs annually to pay tribute to and celebrate the birthday of “the most famous Jamaican musician, Bob Marley” (“Jamaica: The …show more content…

For example on saturday “Dinner– Beef or chicken soup is a must” (Murphy, Xavier). Some other traditions include drinking these drinks on the weekdays “Drinks– a box juice, ski juice, suck suck, coconut water, lemonade, syrup, Quench Aid, Soda” (Murphy, Xavier). Special occasions also call for special food, with the most popular being Goat Curry, followed by cod cow soup and manish water. “Primary ingredients of the island's diet are fish, chicken, vegetables, exotic fruit, and pepper-based spices, either light or flame-throwing” (eJamaica: Island Paradise, Culinary Heaven.) and these can go in any variety of food including curry, roasts and salads.
