I didn’t know how long I had been in the jail cell for before I was taken to the arena. I already knew what was about to happen, I would have to answer for my crimes. Letting myself fall in love with the gorgeous princess was my crime, and the king found out. I was in the kitchen gathering the kings meal when I was arrested the guards threw me into a jail cell where I awaited my trial. The king would always abide by his “brilliant” idea on how the fates of all criminals should be decided. He put the person in question in an arena. Then he would give him the choice to choose between two doors. One door would have a hungry tiger in it, ready to devour the first person who tugged at the knob. Behind the other door would be a woman that would marry the person who swung the door open. …show more content…
I would either die or be forced to marry somebody other than the love of my life. When I stepped into the arena the light was almost blinding, which was due to the fact that I had been locked in a dark cell for the past few days. As soon as my eyes adjusted to the light I saw the expressions on peoples faces. All around I saw face in awe and in heartbreak, and others looked eager to find out which door I would choose. I was hoping that the princess would figure out which door the tiger was behind. When I looked over at her she looked more nervous than ever before, I could tell she didn’t want to be there, but thanks to her semi-barbaric side she couldn’t look away. She was intrigued by what the outcome might be. At that moment I mouthed to her “Which one” praying that she had figured out which door would save my life. But then I got to thinking. She loved me and couldn’t bear to see me with anybody other than her. But that's the point, she loved me. She couldn’t possibly be able to kill
Solitary confinement is a penal tactic used on inmates who pose a threat to themselves or other inmates. Solitary confinement is type of segregated prison in which prisoners are held in their cell for 22-24 hours every day. If they are allowed to leave their cell, they will silently walk shackled and in between two guards. They can only leave for showers or exercise. Their exercise and shower are always done alone and inside. They can exercise in fenced in yards surrounded by concrete. Solitary confinement is either used as a punishment for prison behaviors, a protection method for targeted inmates, or a place to keep prisoners who are a threat to the general prison population. Many prisoners are put in Administrative Segregation for their protection. Many prisoners in this type of segregation are teenagers, homosexuals, and mentally ill prisoners. Many mentally ill prisoners are sent to solitary confinement because there are not rehabilitation services available, and prison officials have run out of options (Shalev, 2008, p [1-2]). Solitary confinement is a convenient method for prison systems, but the detrimental effects on inmates make it an unsuitable option for inmate control.
In the story of “The Lady or the Tiger” there is a king that is semi-barbaric. The king has a daughter and she is a little barbaric herself and because they are a barbaric family they have a way of taking care of crime. They will have a lady and a tiger in two doors and if someone commits a crime or if the king doesn't like the person then the person will be put in the dome and will have to chose one of the doors. If they pick the door with the tiger in it that means that they are guilty of their crime and they will be eaten by the tiger and if they choose the door with the lady then it will mean that they get out scoot free. But there is a catch to it if they choose the lady then they will have to marry the lady even if they have a wife and family.
. I applied to graduate school with the long term goal of working in a correctional facility. A childhood friend of mine was arrested and sent to prison in August 2007. I saw him four years after his incarceration. These four years definitely took a toll on his physical appearance and his way of thinking. He is 25 and has the looks of a young person whose youth has been wasted. As I sat with him, I had high hopes of being able to laugh out loud while reminiscing about the past. However, I became upset and tears of sadness trickled down my face. He confided to me thoughts of suicide. He explained to me in prison terminology or street talk, one must never drop the soap. I sobbed as he continued to talk about his sentence. At times, his words
As a second semester freshman, I found English 102 to be one of my favorite classes. My professor Sally Benson, structured our class’s curriculum around issues in the prison system. More specifically juveniles in adult prisons, college classes for incarcerated individuals, and prison privatization. I found this quite interesting because every assignment we did directly correlated to these three issues. In the beginning of the semester, we, as a class, analyzed all three of these issues, to get a become well acquainted with each topic. This helped tremendously when it came to writing the first paper, the rhetorical analysis. Student were asked to choose a text from a list of resources and analyse how that text works- what he/she see a text saying,
CHAPTER ONE The world rumbles. The sound reverberates off the walls, screaming out the names of the fallen. We only select few haves seen the full evolution of man. We’re the solution to the problems the world has been facing.
Out of all greed and hatred that consumed the princess. I think the door of the tiger was the chosen entrance for the lover. The event of the arena is simple, if you do a crime announced by the king you are put in the arena. When in the arena you get to choose one out of two doors to open.
A wrongdoer would step in front of two doors containing a vicious tiger or a beautiful woman. Which ever door was open would be fate granting justice. His daughter who too was also semi-barbaric part in the story was telling her lover who was accused of doing wrong which door to open because she knew what lies between each door. So we as a reader must think to ourselves, which door did she pick depending on her personality. Personally, I thought she picked the door with the tiger because I got the impression she's jealous, shallow and
The question is, did she signal him to the door with the lovely lady which he would immediately marry? Or the door with the treacherous tiger that would rip him up into pieces? In the short story, we are not given an answer of which door he chose but, there are many reasons why I believe that the tiger was the fate of the young man who loved the princess.
When her lover is put on trial to choose between the two doors, one holding a lady and one holding a tiger, the princess is the one who tells him which door to choose, leaving him at the mercy of her decision. The author writes, “She had lost him, but who should have him?” (Stockton, 3). The princess chooses whether he lives and marries another woman or dies by a hungry tiger. Either way, the princess will be the loser because her previously surreptitious affair with the youth ends no matter what, and she has conflicting thoughts about which door to tell her lover to pick.
There are two door, behind one awaits a blood thirsty tiger and other a beautiful lady which is married to the person to whom opens the doors. Despite the fact that a fair argument could be made for both sides I do believe the lady walked out of those doors to meet the lover and not the fangs of the tiger due to the information and evidence from the story I have gathered from the story The Lady or the Tiger.
I guess you knew him, you knew more than I wanted to know. I was very
I take a left on Main Street and drive down the road for a couple miles. I pull up to another fence, this fence is more fortified. There's no holes in the fence or and signs of people. I wake my Wife and she gets up immediately. I hand her, her weapon and tell her that I’m going in.
Alex Kearney 1/19/2017 Sociology 100 Module Discussion 1 To understand the social imagination, I have considered the idea of a prisoner locked in a prison cell. To further the power of this example, we might consider that this prisoner was born in this cell, and has never stepped foot outside of this cell. This prisoner has no concept of the outside world. The entire universe is irrelevant beyond the walls of this cell.
I was a young boy. Nothing more, nothing less than a young boy, if a boy at all.
I was to be sentenced a period of 10 years for the murder of the old man. I knew I had done wrong to the old man. He had never ever made any misjudgements against me in fact he only encouraged me to become a man of dreams. One that would complete his life by doing what he was dreaming for. The dream I always wanted was to have a normal life with a wife and 2 children with a well-payed job. This was all a man could ever ask for and need. I knew what I had done was wrong. So now I would try to get my life straight and make my life just like a dream. The dream the old man always wanted of me. I would have to endure a lot but the troubles are nothing compared to the prize at the end.
