Along with many other cultures, the Chinese had to devise a way to tell time. Emperor at the time, Yú Dí, also known as the Jade Emperor, decided he would make it twelve year cycle. Thirteen animals were invited; the cat was the last one to finish so it was eliminated. To start the order was determined by how they finished in the race. When the race was completed the animals landed in this order; First was the rat, then the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and finally the boar. I was born on May, 22nd 1999 at 5:30 pm; this lands me with an outer animal of a rabbit, an inner animal of a snake, and as a secret animal a rooster.
One’s outer animal is the determination of what personality we show the world. According to the Chinese zodiac that follows a twelve year cycle, I am a rabbit; I was born in the year 1999. Rabbit signs have many positive and negative attributes associated with the kind of personality it portrays. Positive traits include being gracious, flexible, kind, compassionate, sensitive, elegant, soft-spoken, reserved, cautious, artistic, thorough, astute, and assured. Negative traits include being moody, detached, lazy, superficial, opportunistic, and self-indulgent. I personally think my personality fits into just a few of these traits.

Both positive and negative traits under each animal are unique to that person. Each sign also has other things that make them lucky but not determining to the personality, they are based on the outer animal also. For the rabbit my lucky numbers include 3, 4, and 6 and the lucky numbers include pink, red, purple, and blue. (Kelly, 2017) In addition to those the rabbit also has lucky direction and lucky flowers. (Kelly, 2017) Not all the ones in my three signs fit me, but a small percent of them do. They may not all be qualities people aspire to have but most of the time we are not always the people we wish we could
The Mongols, a nomadic society in the 13th century, were quickly able to conquer a vast amount of land in Eurasia. The Mongols were able to accomplish expanding their empire so widely and so fast because they had many military tactics, and their army was extremely well trained. These both got them a leg up on their enemies. The Mongols were incredibly ruthless at times in battle and used interrogation tactics to gain intel. Plus, their soldiers were trained from a very young age and always prepared.
Shi Huangdi now able to unite the warring states, explored ways to establish a stable, and long lasting dynasty. The improvements he made to a now unified China, changed they way the world looked upon the country.
The two pieces of art that I have chosen to compare is the ‘Green Tara 14th century’ and ‘Tara 19th century’ which are both from the collection at the Rubin Museum of Art. The Green Tara sculpture is from central Tibet and is made of Gilt copper alloy. The Tara 19th century is from Kham province in Tibet and is painted with pigments on a piece of cloth.
These traits also describe me very well. Gold personalities are rule followers and like routine. I am definitely the kind of person who likes to follow the rules and a schedule. I hate being late, and often expect others to not be late as well. According to the results, gold’s lead in a stable and organized way. They expect other people to do things the “right” way and almost never question tradition or authority. I feel that this describes the part of me that the blue personality did not describe. I also think the bad day explanation is more accurate to me than the blue one. I tend to get anxious when I am having a bad day as well as getting tired and depressed. It also says that you start getting bad thoughts about yourself and others, while I generally do not get bad thoughts about others I do have bad thoughts about myself on bad
Throughout the day we are constantly checking the time, preparing for the upcoming months, and keeping track of the year. Clocks tell us the time we use as a measurement. It’s how we keep track of those important months and events, such as holidays and birthdays. Although there are many investigations and research being done on the nature of time, many unresolved issues remain.
The Jade Peony, written by Wayson Choy, is a beautiful short story about the relationship between a young boy and his grandmother. The story deals with many complicated social and emotional issues including change, death, and acceptance. As we explore the repeating conflicts in the story we begin to understand how difficult it is to assimilate cultural beliefs and traditions into a new life.
Personality is defined as the organized pattern of behavioral characteristics of the individual, according to www.dictionary.com. I recently took two different personality tests. I have to admit, I was very impressed with the results. The first test I took determined if I was Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic, or Melancholy. I had ten descriptions for each category. I totaled seven in the D/Commanding Choleric section, four in the I/Cheerful Sanguine section, five in the S/Calm Phlegmatic section, and eight in the C/Clever Melancholy section. This means that I am primarily Melancholy and secondarily Choleric. My understanding of the word Melancholy is that I am sensitive and introverted, meaning that I would rather be to myself and I am not outgoing. This is exactly how I thought of myself. I feel like others cannot be trusted sometimes and other times I just feel like it is more stressful for me to talk to other people so I just keep things to myself most of the time. I also pay very close attention to details when I am doing any task. I am sort of a perfectionist. When things are not perfect of the way I want things it causes an issue for me. I am also goal-orientated. I set a goal for myself and I do not let anything come in the way of me accomplishing that goal. I may have some rough times trying to reach that goal but I always come out on top. Now my understanding of the word Choleric is that it is in some way the same as Melancholy but it still has its differences. When I say I am Choleric this means that I am determined, dominating, and outspoken. Basically it is my way or the highway. I want everything done in my own way at the pace that I set, which is usually right at that very moment. My basic desire, according to the test...
Three aspects of my personality are avoidant, high on conscientiousness and a high need for achievement. These personality characteristics were studied using different theories, the attachment theory, Big Five, and the motivational theory. Together, these aspects make me who I am. I am someone who is driven, hard working, disciplined, and has a hard time trusting and letting other people into my personal life. Everyone has their different personality traits which make them unique, and that’s the beauty of humans. No one is exactly like anyone

Yukio Mishima’s Temple of the Golden Pavilion, set in postwar Japan, gives way to a reflection of the postwar experience both the representation of military aggression and in use of symbolism of beauty, loss, and destruction. A story about Mizoguchi, a young, stuttering acolyte’s obsession with beauty lends itself to the conflagration of the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, based loosely on a true story about the Kinkaku-ji.
A monk is a person who practices religious asceticism, living either alone or with any number of other monks. A monk may be a person who decided to dedicate his life to serving all other beings, or who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his life in prayer and contemplation. According to an early biography, the young Saint Antony (died 356) led a conventional Christian life until the day when, on the way to church, he “communed with himself and reflected as he walked how the Apostles left all and followed the Savior; and how they in the Acts sold their possessions and brought and laid them at the Apostles’ feet for distribution to the needy, and what and how great a hope was laid up for them in heaven” (Athansius, Life of Antony). Antony chose to give up his worldly routine in order to embrace Christ’s example as fully as possible, and in the fourth century, growing numbers of men and women embarked on the course that he charted. This way of life was then called monasticism. Within monasticism, exists the Western Christian and the Eastern Orthodox churches. Monasticism exists within the Catholic and Orthodox churches, and to an extent the difference between these monks reflect the difference between their societies.
What is Buddhism? What do we understand by Buddhism? It can be comprehended differently and can mean a variety of things to many people. For one it can be only an explanation of the life of the Buddha. To another, Buddhism means the massive doctrine recorded in the Buddhist literature, which is voluminous and comprise of several thousand pages recording the words of the Buddha. Moreover it is described as a very lofty, abstruse, complex and learned philosophy of life. However based on whatever the Buddha taught, there has grown a very rich culture, a culture which has extended to all parts of Asia for over 2500 years, and to which people from various walks of life with various backgrounds from all these countries have made a lasting contribution. Another definition of Buddhism is the kind of ritual that has grown around the doctrine of the Buddha, as a result of his teachings and the way of life preached by him. But to me Buddhism is the perfect combination of all these definitions. Buddhism has influenced my life by making me adopt the Eightfold Path known as the “Middle Path”, increased the practice of spirituality, comprehend law of impermanence and thus lead a righteous life. It’s mainly thought that Buddhism is a teaching for monks only, as it is sometimes wrongly conceived.
The Yulin festival shines a light on a changing Chinese culture. What is happening on the small scale depicts the reality of what is happening on the large scale. China is changing, and one of the most vivid examples of this change is how Chinese treat dogs. In 1980, Keeping dogs as pets was banned because having dog as pets was considered as bourgeois affectation (Peter). Also, because the government thought people should focus on improving their own lives instead of raising dogs and because raising dogs weren’t part of their culture because dogs used to be guards, herders or meals than companions. Moreover, keeping dogs as pet would cost a lot of money. However, Chinese restrictions were loosened in the 1990s and early 2000. In 2003 Chinese were allowed to own dogs (Peter).
To summarize, according to the Five-Factor Model of Personality Howl is open to different things, intelligent, he can be undependable, is very disorganized and messy, is kind, forgiving, yet cruel, calm, rarely ill-tempered, and is an overall sociable person. He ranks a high percentage in openness and extraversion, very low in conscientiousness, and is near the higher- middle on agreeableness and neuroticism traits. The Five-Factor Model seems to be relatively good for deciphering the personality of characters and likewise, deciphering a characters personality shows how effective the Five-factor Model can be.
I feel as though the E, extravert, suits me very well. I love being around other people, especially my friends and my family, and I feel as though when I am around others I am always energetic, and outgoing. Also I am a great conversationalist I love starting conversations, especially with new people, I love hearing what others have to say, and I love telling others about myself. I also believe that the S, the sensing type, suits me very well too. I feel like I am a very precise person, and aim for perfection in things. I also feel like I am a very down to earth person, and very practical with things. Lastly, is very precise with my work, whenever I work on something, I work very hard, and I check it over and over again until it's as perfect as it can get. As for the F, the feeling type, I feel as though it also suits me very well. I am always aware of how other people feel, and I am always there for them. For example one day my sister was upset because she got a bad grade on her test, and I cheered her up by making a bun of jokes and just being funny, and it made me feel very good to see her smile after she was upset for a while. Also whenever there is a conflict whether it's between my friends or my family I always try to stay out of it, so I can help resolve the conflict, and a lot of times I have helped solve many conflicts. One of my biggest pet peeves is telling people unpleasant things, I feel
