G-man was a slang word for special agents that were working under the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the US government. This special agents that were put together by the US government existed to stop any illegal transactions and crimes. The detectives that were working under J. Edgar Hoover’s Bureau of Investigation were consisted of small quantities of detectives that the public often mistaken them with the Secret Service or Prohibition Bureau agents. The slang word ‘G-man’ is created during the arrest of George “Machine Gun” Kelly, a gangster and wanted for fugitive reason. Yet, it should not be ignored that the Gestapo was brutal in its negotiation techniques, and that reputation could induce fear into public cooperation. It may be true that the general public instilled more fear into themselves about the capabilities of the Gestapo through volunteering information, than the Gestapo itself, but that should not imply that the Gestapo was not a creator of fear in that era.

In this period, espionage was seen by most as a disgraceful profession. This is why although the Continental Army needed spies to help them win the Revolutionary War, so many people refused to do the job because they feared becoming someone who dedicated their lives to lies and deception. People are often remembered for being overly successful, extremely talented, or insanely wealthy; but there are exceptions to every rule. Being a fearless outlaw is not the ideal way to gain fame, but John Dillinger managed to do so. Dillinger’s fearless charisma, led him to go above and beyond to provoke law enforcement. Not many criminals have succeeded in the way John Dillinger did during the 1920s and 30s. He managed to put society in awe due to his obstreperous acts of rebellion. Being one of the most infamous criminals from his time, Dillinger had a huge influence on crime, and has greatly impacted gangsters all over the country.
John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” After getting a behind the scenes look at J. Edgar Hoover’s life and accomplishments I consider him to be a very influential leader. I was always familiar with the name J. Edgar Hoover, but I never fully understood his impact on the United States. Edgar, as his mother would call him, wasn’t a perfect man by any standards. He was born with a variety of traits that contribute to his leadership. Some of these traits attributed to his downfall. Throughout the movie there were many instances that tested his leadership in both negative and in positive ways.
On our planet, phenomena’s occur occasionally in nature. Tornadoes, earthquakes, and flashfloods are all types of phenomena’s that could occur. Most of these mysterious events are small and go unnoticed; however, on a rare occasion these sorts of event can be horrendous. One such occasion occurred back around 4,000 BC (Werner Keller, 48). As the story goes, God’s population was growing rapidly on earth. At this point, he had been growing bored with the same people on earth so he made sure no man would live past the age of 120. Given this time, the people of earth started to take advantage of the human race; these acts of selfishness disgusted God. He decided to destroy everything on earth. A man by the name of Noah had lived his life by God’s nature, which eventually led to a close relationship between the two. God had told Noah to build a boat with exact measurements. God had instructed Noah to put two of every kind of animal into the boat; one had to be male and the other female. Then God told Noah to get into the boat with his family, their families, and the animals. Then for forty days and forty nights the clouds seemed to have poured endless amounts of water onto the earth (Genesis 6:1-9). Floods rushed through the landscape, destroying everything in its path. The waters were higher than the tallest mountains, standing above the highest peaks. All living things on earth had died. The water covered the earth at this level for five months (Paul S. Taylor, 1). In time the water began to dry up. Eventually Noah was able to leave the ship and release all he had brought with him. From this point, evolution occurs.
J. Edgar Hoover began a new phase of a counterintelligence program in August of 1967 known as COINTELPRO. The purpose of this particular program, according to Hoover, who was the Director of the FBI, was to expose and disrupt the activities of black nationalists, hate organizations or groups. Hoover obsessively used the vast resources of the FBI against black groups across the political spectrum, from the NAACP to the Black Panther Party. His justification was that African Americans who objected to segregation were communists. Given Hoover’s well documented antipathy towards black people, which was typical of a white conservative man with southern upbringing, his motivation was simply racism. The Black Panther Party was not originally on Hoover’s “Black Nationalist-Hate Group” list, but organizations such as SCLC, SNCC and the Nation of Islam were included. History of the FBI The Federal Bureau of Investigation was founded in 1908 when the Attorney General appointed an anonymous force of 34 Special Agents to be investigators for the Department of Justice. Before that, the DOJ had to borrow agents from the U.S. Secret Service. In 1909, the Special Agent Force was renamed the Bureau of Investigation, and after countless name changes, it became The Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1935. When the FBI was established, there weren't an abundance of federal crimes, so it investigated criminal acts that dealt with national banking, bankruptcy, naturalization, antitrust, peonage, and land fraud. In June of 1910, the FBI grew larger because of the "Mann Act" (Made it a crime to transport women to other states for immoral reasons).
Herbert Hoover the president at this current time believed that the government should not directly intervene in the economy and wasn't responsible for making jobs for it's people. He and other leaders believed the crisis would simply run its course and they would all be able to return to their normal lives.11 By 1932 things had not gotten any better and Hoover was replaced in an overwhelming victory by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt took immediate action to the country’s economic problems by issuing legislation aimed at stabilizing industry and agriculture, create jobs, and stimulate recovery. He created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to protect people's accounts and the Securities and Exchange Commission to regulate and prevent abuse in the stock market. He also created Tennessee Valley Authority and Works Project Administration.12 By 1939 Roosevelt's New Deal increased the GDP to $92.2 billion dollars, but unemployment was still at 17.2%. Nixon contemplated a major structural reorganization of the government, but it did not materialize. However, he did create two important agencies. The first was the Urban Affairs Council, created in 1969 and chaired by Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Its purpose was to advise the president concerning domestic policy with special reference to the needs of people living in cities. Moynihan's only major effort was the Family Assistance Program, which failed. The second agency was the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which still exists and which plays a major role in the lives of many Americans (See also, Domestic Issues). It is very controversial because of the widespread belief that it has too much power to interfere in private business matters.
Collectively, the characters of Watchmen parallel the tumultuous relationship that as a superpower the United States of America has with the rest of the world. Edward Blake, aptly named The Comedian, viewed twentieth century life through a darkly tinted humorous lens. He viewed life as an absurd and meaningless notion, where all actions were ultimately driven by an innately selfish nature. Through his experiences in war, he becomes a “ruthless, cynical and nihilistic” man who is “capable of deeper insights than the others” in the room (Reynolds, 106). The Comedian derives his power from a complete and utter disregard for humanity.
Former Senator Joseph McCarthy put it perfectly when he said, “… for the FBI is J. Edgar Hoover and I think we can rest assured that it will always be.” (qtd. in Denenberg 7). J. Edgar Hoover is credited for reconstructing the Bureau of Investigations (later renamed Federal Bureau of Investigations). Regardless of how people saw him, Hoover was powerful and committed, and did everything within his power to improve the agency that would make this country a safer place for all.

George “Bugs” Moran was one of the most famous gangsters of all time due to his fame during the prohibition era, and constant fighting with Al Capone (“Bugs Moran” National Crimes…par. 3). He was also one of the very few gangsters who was actually street smart because of his crime starting at such a young age (“Bugs Moran” par. 2). He got the nickname of “Bugs; because he was a rather violent criminal, so everyone thought he was “buggy” (Bardsley par. 1). His “buggy” attitude showed by him driving his rival gangs absolutely nuts making most of them, especially Capone, regret that they ever left New York and stepped foot in Chicago (Keefe 6). One of Moran’s rival gangsters once stated, “If I’d known what I was getting into, I’d never have left the Five-Point outfit in New York” (Keefe 6). Although Moran has been rather a mystery until now, his legacy of being the powerful leader of the north side gang will last forever (Keefe 9).
In the roaring twenties, the life of organized crimes was at its peak. What was the greatest mob hit ever pulled off in history? Well I'll tell you. It all happened on Valentines Day, the morning of February 14th, 1929. This incident was call, "The St. Valentines Day Massacre". The man behind this infamous crime was none other than, the infamous Al "Scarface" Capone. Al Capone was the all time greatest mobster of all time. The idea of organized crime fascinates me in so many ways. Capone was the only person to have pulled off such a crime. Al Capone was top gangster in Chicago and was one of the greatest members of the Italian Mafia and George "Bugs" Moran was the leader of the Irish/German mafia and he was the main target behind this hit. He targeted Capone because Al Capones had a bounty on his head, $60,000,000, and found George Moran as a threat. George was Capone's biggest threat of all. He needed to take him out quickly. (Al Capone, True Crime Story). Writing this paper will let me learn a lot more about this massacre. There is one question I would like answered, "Why hadn't Moran's crew made an attempt to fight back?" (Al Capone, True Crime Story). Moran's men had a long history of being violent with others. This is one question that we will never know. My most used source on this essay will be internet information and a book. I feel these sources will give me the most amount of information. Using a magazine will too but it was very hard to find a 20's magazine article.
