What is wrong with America? This is a nation built on the success of the children, and future generations. How can we say that when thousands of children are in foster care to this day? To confront this problem states must realize that adoption to homosexuals is a great opportunity, not by just giving children homes, but also allowing them to experience the lifestyle that same-sex patents present. In addition, the government has to realize that religion should not play a role in whether or not gays should be able to adopt as a couple. People always say they feel for children and wish they could help. Well here is that opportunity! These children need a loving home, and if a gay or lesbian couple can provide that, why not let them. I agree that religion plays an import part in everyday life, but that alone does not provide security for those in foster care like a family would. The government needs to think about the loving and nurturing, legalizing, and similarities that out weight the negatives in same-sex couples. Words such as love and nurture are used in everyday life. As stated by Ellen C. Perrin and the American Academy of Pediatrics, “ Children may satisfy people’s desire to provide and accept love and nurturing from others and may provide some assurance of and support during their older years ” (Perrin and AAP). Parents of either sexuality understand a common goal, raised children required care. Children with homosexual parents receive the same love like children of heterosexual parents. Oppressors state, that the children will live horrible lives if raised in a homosexual environment. The fact is this, not all homosexual families face the same disapproval from those around them, and the same goes for heterosexual f... ... middle of paper ... ...because the bible does not state that, two of the same gender can live together. It does state that we should love one another, but like most argument, certain bible verses are push aside to fit the position argued. How convent that the opposition against gays deal with religious and normal hardships that anyone can face on day-to-day bases. Since there is no accurate data on same-sex raising children does any damage, be happy that the children are going to a good home. Culture should step aside as well. America is called a melting pot for a reason, no matter were we come from we all learn to leave with each other’s differentness. It is ashamed that America only fully comes together if tragic events like, 9-11, New Orleans after Katrina, or World Wars occur. All opposition against one another should boil down, and America becomes the strong nation it was once again.

Homosexuality as a whole has been and is still a very controversial topic globally. There are many different kinds of discussions about the LGBT community, such as gays and lesbians being parents. Some critics tend to believe that homosexual parenting is bad for kids, as if a person’s sexuality determines whether or not they are a good parent.. There is no definite proof that being homosexual makes you a good or bad parent. So, there is no way of being one-hundred percent sure that homosexual parenting results in gender role confusion, psychological harm, or a child being homosexual themselves.
America has feared that different religions would clash coming into one nation, but now the majority of religions coexist in American without harm. Whites previously owned Black and Hispanic slaves, but the nation overcame the odds and now people of all colors have protection as equals. If it is possible to overcome such fierce obstacles, then surely the nation can again can overcome the boundary obstructing LGBT rights and marriages. Evolution will forever continue and at any given point in time, something else will occur that is against the norm, but humans have the ability can overcome it. Most believe there is one person out there to love us, and gay people feel the same way; gender is not a defining factor to love. LGBT equality is a controversial issue that people have been fighting for decades and more recently the debates have gained popularity, so it is time to take charge of
If there are over two million LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people willing to adopt a child, why not give a child a permanent home? There are over 65,000 adopted children and 14,000 foster children in the U.S. that are being raised in homes headed by non-heterosexual individuals or couples (Evan B. 2011). To let same sex couples adopt has been a huge deal throughout the United States for the past years that some states even banned them from ever adopting. Many lesbian and gay couples have been denied the application to adopt due to agencies that have negative views towards the couple because of religion or other beliefs. Everyone no matter who they are have “equal rights” and those rights are disrespected daily when it comes to homosexuals adopting or even thinking of becoming a parent themselves. Even though it is said children need both a male and a female parent to psychologically develop properly, homosexual couples should have the ability to adopt because they are equally capable of raising a child as a heterosexual couple.
In recent years, same-sex relationships have become more encompassing in US society. State legislation is changing such as accepting gay marriages, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, and legal gay adoptions; the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community is becoming public. Gay-headed families, like heterosexuals, are diverse and varying in different forms. Whether a created family is from previous heterosexual relationships, artificial insemination, or adoption, it deserves the same legal rights heterosexual families enjoy. Full adoption rights needs to be legalized in all states to provide a stable family life for children because sexual orientation does not determine parenting skills, children placed with homosexual parents have better well-being than those in foster care, and there are thousands of children waiting for good homes.
... what can be considered one of the most forward thinking countries in the world. The longer we hold out on allowing homosexual couples to marry, the further we will fall behind in the world. We cannot continuously look down upon other countries degradation of particular minorities while we continue to do the same thing in our own country. Gay marriage it simply gives another minority the opportunity to express their love. Being married involves legal matters, and religion is simply something that we have added to it. The ideals of marriage have been ever-evolving and we as Americans, the pillar of modernization, the ever futuristic mainstay, should be open-minded enough to evolve even more to benefit the homosexual community. If not open-minded enough, look at the laws: America established itself upon the ideals of equality for all. We should follow our own rules.
Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted and integrated into today’s society, however, when it comes to homosexuals establishing families, a problem is posed. In most states, homosexuals can adopt children like any other married or single adult. There are many arguments to this controversial topic; some people believe that it should be legal nationally, while others would prefer that is was banned everywhere, or at least in their individual states. There are logical reasons to allow gays to adopt children, but for some, these reasons are not enough. The main issue really is, what is in the best interest of the child? This type of problem isn’t really one with causes, effects, and solutions, but one with pros and cons. Like any other adoption situation, a parent prove themselves to be responsible and capable enough to raise a child on their own, or with a spouse.
Children look at their parents as role models and when they are taught that it’s alright to be gay we as a society h...
Since the 1970s, studies on the effect of same-sex parenting on children have been conducted in the United States. Sociological debates have occurred from the idea of allowing same-sex couples to parent. Some groups feel that allowing this would undermine the traditional ideology of marriage and skew the perception of gender roles for their children. Sociologists continue to produce empirical research that studies samples of the approximately 125,000 same-sex couples raising nearly 220,000 children and comparing their roles as parents and the adult personalities of their children to children raised by heterosexual couples. Current scientific research comparing the outcomes of children raised by gay or lesbian parents with children of heterosexual parents consistently shows that same-sex parents are just as capable of raising “psychologically healthy and well-adjusted” children as heterosexual parents. Research comparing children raised by same-sex couples and heterosexual couples found no differences in the adjustment or mental health of these children as adults.
There is an abundance of children in the U.S. lacking a home and a family, that of which a gay couple could provide. Some states have legalized joint gay adoption, while others are still on the fence about it, and would rather not pass the law. A reason why those states should pass the law is, because of the foster care system. Many children, whether it’s a boy or girl, can jump to and from at least twenty homes before they turn 18. Some would be against the gay adoption, because they feel like the child would choose their sexual orientation based off what they see their adoptive parents doing. Those people fail to realize that having gay parents wouldn’t affect the child’s sexual preference. Just like having hetrosexcual parents cannot change a child from being gay. Lastly, another reason why gay adoption should be legalized nationwide is because, many people use their judgement from religious background to vote “NO” on joint gay adoption. When the 1st amendment clearly states that there needs to be a separation between church and
There indicators of child developmental outcomes were categorized into parent and child relationship quality, children’s cognitive development, children’s gender role behavior, children’s gender identity, children’s sexual preference, and children’s social and emotional development. There analysis showed that children with same-sex parents fared equally to children raised by heterosexual parents when comparing developmental outcomes. Same-sex parents also reported a significantly better relationship with their children than heterosexual parents, which was measured by the parent or child perception of the quality of their relationship. This goes back to the argument that parent sexuality has no impact on the child but rather the relationship between the parent and the child has is the most impactful. In Crowl, Ahn and Baker (2008) meta-analysis study also found that the parent sexual orientation had no effect on gender identity, cognitive development, psychological adjustment, and sexual
There are many reason why gay adoption is banned and why people object to it. Some people like Bill Maier, a child psychologist working with the conservative Focus on the Family, would say, “Children in foster care ‘are already scarred’ by abuse and neglect, we would want to do everything we could to place them in the optimal home environment” (Watson). Foster children would prefer a loving and nurturing home with a gay couple, rather than move around from foster parent to foster parent. Foster children are often victims of "foster care shuffle." For example, a child can live in twenty different homes before he or she turns eighteen. Anna Freud, a child psychologist, wrote “a child can handle almost anything better than instability”
What would it be like for hate and discrimination to follow someone all because of their preference on love? Same-sex couples fall in love only to realize that they are not “supposed” to be together. These couples cannot even enjoy every day activities that other couples may take for granted. Many same-sex couples are discriminated against because they are not what others consider the social norm. The religion in which many Americans believe in is Catholic. The general outlines to Catholic religion are referenced throughout the bible; nowhere in the bible does it say that same-sex marriage is at all acceptable. Therefore many religious minorities believe that marriage is only acceptable between a man and a woman. If America prides itself on being the home of freedom and hope, anyone who is truly in love should be married when they want to be. If all marriages were treated equally, America could live up to being the home of the free. By denying same-sex unions America is violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Hence, denying same-sex couples the right to be married is unconstitutional.
Why should humans be criticized on who they marry? Same-sex marriage couples need to be able to get legally married. "Marriage is social and cultural; the meaning varies in important ways including historical and cultural boundaries" (Pope). Marriage should not just be legal for just the opposite sex couples, let people love and commit their lives to whoever they may be with. 17 states in the U.S. today have allowed gay marriage, and have made it legal to get married within a same-sex relationship. This has come very far since 1988 when gay marriage was brought upon: 17 states out of 50 states, that’s a high increase. “From 1988 to 2012, public support for gay marriage increased at a rate of 1 to1.5 points per year” (Pope). It is pleasant that the opinion and support for gay marriage has increased, everyone is created equal, and everyone should get the same rights. Many states, local governments, and private companies have laws or formal policies...
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
