Recommended: The nature of terrorism

On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center came crashing down due to Al-Qaeda attacks. Those were the darkest days for the family and friends of the victims and also for Muslims all around the world. Al-Qaeda is a militant Islamist group, also known as extremists or terrorists, who are calling for a global Jihad. Many terrorists may be Muslims but not every Muslim is a terrorist. I am here today to clear the name of Muslims and what Islam’s views are on peace, Jihad and terrorism.

The very meanings of Islam are of peace for mankind and submission to god. “The whole mankind is like one community” is a glorious verse in the Quran exhibiting the truth that we should decide our matter and settle our differences like brothers. We are like a sacred family of lord. We are all sons and daughters of Adam and Eve and are made of clay. No one is made of silver or gold. We must respect each other, because peace is the best policy. Peace is religion and religion is peace. The whole world can become the cradle of happiness if people learn to live reasonably and honestly. In the psalm of David, he seeks peace in these words; “I will lie down and in peace, for you alone, o lord, make me dwell in safety” (4:8). Jesus Christ gave the message o f love, peace, tolerance and non-violence. The Gospel of John records the following word of Jesus, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubles and do not be afraid” (14:27). Similarly the Quran exhorts for peaceful treaties. In the chapter well-explained the Quran says; “Respond with which is better, so that he, between whom and you there was animosity, shall be like intimate friend. Al Qaeda plans to do just this with the terror that they invoke. Al Qaeda did not start as an organization made for terror. Instead, it started as a legitimate military base for the training of the mujahideen, who were the group fighting against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden started Al Qaeda with the money that his wealthy Saudi father left him when he died, when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan (Moyer). He called the invasion an attack on Islam itself. Soon enough, though, Al Qaeda grew into a group recruiting bloody jihadis, spreading fear, and punishing those against their views. (Currie 70-71)
