Is the American Dream dead? The American Dream is the idea of having every U.S citizen equal opportunities to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination and initiative. The meaning behind the American dream is simply work hard and in the end you will be awarded with wealth and a promising future. An example of that would be Uncle Sam stating to the American people “if you work hard, played by the rules you can make a better life for your family” also mentioning that there will be a raise in jobs and better wages and telling businesses not to interfere. Some argue that Americans have the advantage for being wealthy and financially well because their families support them in everything they do. Needless to say not every American has the advantages but they still have more opportunities then someone who has recently came from another country. On the website of CNN Money there is an article stating that “Blacks, Hispanics and Asians are more likely to feel the American Dream is alive and well” (Luhby 2). The strange part of the article is the voting poll showing that 19% of whites think the American dream is alive and well while the other 81% think the dream is suffering. Most of the population of Americans say the dream is dead and gone because of the younger generation not taking advantage of any chances we get or not seeing the open door to a better future. The problem begins with trust in the government, many want to believe in the government because it can create jobs for the millions. The people do not want to be told something and then be lied to the economy as itself is killing the american dream. The Americans need the poor people to work for rich people so the rich can live the dream and the poor can just dream. Our socialy now believes the dream is if you are not rich you have not lived the so called “American Dream”. To begin with the dream was mostly started with James Truslow mentioning in his book saying that life should be richer and fuller for everyone. In others everyone should have the same opportunities, chances, and ways to become financially stable for the future. After World War 2 when the troops came home they were promised to be able to get a job, support they're families and be able to afford a house for themselves. They were told they were going to living good for their services and that was the case for a couple of months. The problem with becoming comfrantable with what they are is not trying to become well of, it is trying to be sure they have enough to support themselves and family because if someone cannot become financially well they are not going to be able to live a good life.
