Is it better to be feared or loved? This is the question that a lot of people ask frequently. Machiavelli said it was better to be feared than to be loved than feared. I think Machiavelli sayed feared is better to be loved because Machiavelli explains this to us in The Prince and says if you cannot be feared and loved than it is better to be feared. In The Prince it helps us decide whether or not it is right.

Machiavelli says “one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, is much safer to to be feared than loved”. I think it is better to be feared to be loved because in the same way someone that you love can also some what backstab you in such a way that you cannot forgive them.When you are loved there are many vulnerable parts that you can face. When you are feared than you cannot be hurt that much as you can be loved. Machiavelli also says “When of the two, either must be dispensed with. Because this is to be asserted in general of men, that they are ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous, and as long as you succeed they are yours entirely; they will offer you their blood. …show more content…

Which means what i said earlier that fear also has it weaknesses but not as much as love
