Joseph Campbell says that “a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” In this quote, it says many things that I believe applies to Danielle Gletow. She puts children of all kinds on a higher pedestal than herself. She helps children reach maximum potential. Danielle Gletow has proven to be a hero by being influential to children in foster care, practicing what she preaches, and being passionate about helping kids have a normal life.
Danielle Gletow practices what she preaches by devoting her life to foster children. Having a foster care child of her own makes her see what’s it’s like to be in foster care. Gletow quit her high-paying marketing and advertising job to devote more time to the organization,

as well as to her four year old daughters, Mia and Lily (“Unknown Heros” ). Danielle quit her job just so she could give more time and effort to her children and the foster care system. She wanted to fix the foster care system that was becoming even more broken. She knows how the kids feel in foster care and cares for every child like it was her own. Danielle was inspired to start One Simple Wish while acting as a foster parent in Mercer County with her husband (“Danielle”, 2012). She knew how important it was to create a normal environment for children in foster care and decided to use her marketing background to make the One Simple Wish website where people can go and grant wishes for children. Danielle started One Simple Wish because her and her husband saw the struggle that her daughter went through in foster care and wanted to help the kids in foster care have a normal life. She used her marketing background to make a website so people can grant the foster kids wishes. she has a child of her own that was in foster care. Danielle is influential to kids who are or have been in foster care as well as adults.“I think we need a bunch of foster parents who do not need or want the money.
I think it’s nice to add an incentive but really, we need more foster parents who want to take care of foster kids and who can do it all through love and kindness.” There are a lot of people in the world that will. We need more people to be part of this village so they can offer ideas, solutions and thoughts about how to improve the system (“Unknown Heros” ). Foster parents that have the money should be willing to give money cause they know how hard it was for there child or children in foster care, they should give the money form the bottom of their heart. People are willing to give as much money as possible, so they need more people to be apart of the foster care program to give advice about how to make the system better. Danielle is influential to people with money and says they should give money to the broken foster care system “This recognition is sure to bring more awareness to the light of children in foster care and will help One Simple Wish continue to empower people to show these precious kids the love, hope and joy they deserve (“Danielle”, 2012).” The recognition danielle is giveing to the kids is bringing to the surface that one simple wish will continue to give kids love, hope, and joy that they need to be alive or be a good person. Danielle is influential to many people who in new york city and all around the united
states Danielle is passionate on giving the kids in foster care a normal life by having people give money to grant wishes for the kids. Danielle Gletow started One Simple Wish in new jersey and has helped grant over 15,000 wishes (“Unknown Heros” ). The wishes that the kids have made so far are for things they need or if they're littler they get thing they want like going to a show or other things. She gives kids the most normal life she can give them with the power she has. "A lot of the adolescents want the experiences that a lot of their friends are having," she says. "We are giving someone an opportunity that they may never go through life having.(“Danielle”, 2012) Kids in foster care want to do things that they're friends can do. so danielle is giving those kids the opportunity that they might not have if they hadn’t made one simple wish. Daniel has made many kids life as normal as she can and helps them try to make it normal for themselves. In conclusion, Danielle Gletow has proven to be a hero though being influential to children in foster care. Therefore, she has proven many times that what she does like practicing what she preaches and being passionate about helping kids that live in foster care have a normal life makes her a hero. What she is doing in foster care all around the country proves she is a bigger hero than most people. The kindness that Danielle Gletow has shown to people is something the world could learn from. We should all be influential, practice what we preach and be passionate just like Danielle Gletow.

In the book, Till the end of June, by Cris Beam. The overall theme is about foster care. Foster care in relation with the kids, the parents who take care of the kids, and the corporations that oversee the foster parents care and guidance. The book is broken up by parts, each part has different foster parents caring for different foster children. A lot of the book is regulations that both the kids and the parents must undergo. A lot of kids have come from dysfunction homes and are either forced to foster care or our put there by the choice of the parent(s). I believe the author was trying to accomplish the fact of what the kids and parents go through in tough situations.
In conclusion, Judy Hopps is a hero because she stands up for what's right, she is brave, and she follows the Hero’s Journey. “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” - Joseph Campbell. What is a hero to
Strong-Boag strives to emphasize the importance of her ideology of foster parents by noting the shortage of “traditionally respectable” parents and the incorporation welfare systems that failed to live up to its initial goal. Strong-Boag, however, makes noticeable of the different efforts that are being incorporated into improving the idea of fostering. Such include the celebration of outstanding foster parents and the growth of foster parent associations. We as Canadians fail to recognize the value of caring labour, and in turn Strong-Boag strives to make this overlooked issue one that is worthy of attention. Near the conclusion of the book readers are able to tie the themes of Fostering Nation? Canada Confronts Its History of Childhood Disadvantage to the youngsters themselves. Strong-Boag stresses that many began life in straitened circumstances and with early disabilities and they are becoming a diverse group in our society. Many children in care deal with emotional and major physical problems that are shadowed away from the public and instead replaced with images of children who are cheerful and encounter happy endings. This is what makes Strong-Boag such an empowering author. She digs deep into a ground-breaking phenomenon and unleashes the secrets and issues that
In the book titled Finding fish: a memoir, the author addresses the need of our society’s neglected children to find love, safety and protection. Many children like Antwone are subjected to different types of abuse such as: physical, emotional and sexual. Foster care was an option for Antwone. Foster care is the placement for children outside the custody of their parents or legal guardians after court finding that the children have been abused or neglected. The court may also find the child to be a person in need of supervision or have committed delinquent acts. The foster care is a social service system with many component parts and complex interrelationships between those parts (Downs, Moore and McFadden, 2009, p.274).
Generally when you think of a hero, who do you envision? Most likely, you picture a strong and imposeing figure, someone capable of performing in high pressure situations, demonstrating bravery and passion to help his/her fellow man. Those who typically fit that role in society are firefighters, policemen, and soldiers. Those people deserve all the credit and recognition they receive for their courageous acts. However, what about individuals or groups who aren’t necessarily on the “frontlines” physically protecting others and saving lives, but who work extremely hard to improve the lives of others in some way? These everyday people deserve credit as well. After all, to the people they help, these volunteers or activists are heroes. An example of such a group is the Greensboro Four, a few African American college students in the early 1960s who helped change the landscape of segregation in the Jim Crow South.
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Clara Barton could be regarded as a hero because she went into several military battles during the civil war with a strong mindset to help the soldiers who were wounded and to provide supplies that were needed but scarce17.She was a woman of many talents who accomplished a lot but became best known for the founding of the Red Cross in America. Her humanitarian contributions and compassionate personality allowed her to connect with many people. As inspiring as Clara Barton was, she wasn’t born a hero but became one with the influence of her younger years. Clara Barton’s family life and personal struggles when she was younger, ultimately shaped
Rosa Parks What’s a hero? A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. Hero’s can also be someone who has made a change in the world and or a society like Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks is considered a hero because of all the things she went through and made happen throughout her life.
Anyone can truly be a hero, even in real life. Heroes can be people who simply have an idea and decide to grow onto that idea and have it done. For example, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were real life heroes who started out as ordinary people but had a dream and made a huge difference in the end. Nelson Mandela, a Civil Rights activists, once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference” (Lazaro). Nelson Mandela was trying to say that anybody can make a difference, but it is up to that person or people to make that change. One simple change could cause any simple person to have a major change in lifestyle just because they decided to step up and do something. Furthermore, anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter what one’s background is, one can make even the simplest of changes and become a hero to oneself and the people around them.
What is a hero? Many people think instantly about, police officers, fire fighters, or perhaps a person that saves the day such as “Batman” or “superman”, but in reality a hero are not just people that save the day or other from harm. A hero can also be your parent, or parents that are there for you through your good and bad or even right and wrong days; or your brother or sister that perhaps worry about you and is determine to teach you well, this way you do not commit the same mistake they once did or saw growing up. The novel “In the time of the butterflies” the three sisters are known to be hero’s for standing up and sticking to their beliefs. But a hero is not only those that die for their country or others, it takes a
Despite attempts in the foster care system agencies under the guidelines of the “Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997” (ASFA) to locate suitable homes and families for foster children, many remain in foster care. “Too often, Child Welfare policy and the agencies responsible for it – offices that respond to child abuse and neglect, oversee foster care placements, and seek to reunite children with their parents to find adoptive families- are out of sight and out of mind except for fleeting moments of tragedy, such as a child’s death”.
Listening to a child’s viewpoint in today’s world is one technique to fully understand what they are thinking about and why they would be thinking about it. These children are having a horde of thoughts streaming through their mind with the foster children transitioning into a new home and receiving a new family. Although, the foster child is not the only one feeling anxious about the switch into another home but the f...

Dr. Kathleen Armstrong, director of pediatric psychology at the University of South Florida medical school, ran medical tests, vision and hearing tests, and brain scans that revealed that there was nothing physically wrong with her. Danielle did not respond to affection or comfort, refused to make eye contact, and would not engage with people. Due to her severe neglect, at the age of seven, Danielle did not know her own name, was unable to speak or use a toilet, and did not understand how to interact with others. When Danielle was nine years old, she was adopted into a patient family who hoped that their love and affection would make a difference in her life. While she has made improvements socially, there are still cognitive abilities she cannot perform such as speaking, problem solving, controlling emotional responses, and basic personal hygiene care.
