Investigating the Effect of Drop Height on the Depth of Sand Aim: To investigate the depth of the sand depending on the height at which the ball is dropped from. Variables: Independent variable chosen: The height at which the ball is dropped Dependent variable chosen: The depth of the sand after removing the fallen ball from it. Constant variables and how they will be controlled: Variable How we will keep it constant Amount of sand We leave the sand in the bucket and make sure that none spills over. Type of sand Use the same one for each trials Ball Use the same ball for each trial, with the same size, volume, material and brand. Height of sand, compression Flatten or compress the sand back to how it was, as accurately as possible, by using a flat surface. Research Question How does the height of the drop affect the depth of the sand? Hypothesis As the height of the drop for the ball increases, the measured depth of the sand will increase. This is because the ball will have more time to accelerate at 9.8ms-¹, and therefore have more momentum, creating a larger impact on the sand each time the height of the drop is raised. Apparatus A ball – A marble A plastic rectangular tray – about 40cm by 25 Some sand – fills up to about 2/3 of the tray 2 Rulers – one for drop height (1m) - one for measuring the depth (15cm) Clamp and Stand 2 planks of wood – light wood/palsa (so that it doesn’t sink) Splinters – 10 cm long and 0.3mm wide Method:
In Regina Calcaterra’s memoir, Etched in Sand, the speaker is Regina as a ten-year-old female, who was being abused, and forced to grow up much faster than most, other children her age. She wrote this book to reach her siblings, and show her love for them; but she also was looking to reach out to children who were/are being abused, are in foster care, and who are homeless. The book was set in The Hamptons of Long Island, during the 1970s and 1980s. Regina and her four other sibling were being abused by their mother, who was hooked on drugs and alcohol, and was all around a very irresponsible person. This group of siblings, were moving quite often because their mother either did not remember to pay the bill, or they were sleeping in the back
The goal of this experiment is to develop a theory, which allows us to understand the motion of a marble.
We tested an apple being dropped from a constant distance of 2.4m above the ground, this was used as a representation of a person falling from a high distance. We also tested a blood-like substance being dropped from a medicine dropper from a constant distance of 1.5m above the ground, this was used as a representation of a simple nose bleed.
On Tuesday in lab, we wanted to measure the velocity and acceleration of a ball rolling down an incline. To do this, we made our table have an incline by putting wood blocks under two legs of the table. We placed meter sticks on a table so we could determine the distance the ball traveled for a certain amount of time. We placed the ball at the 0cm mark on the meter stick and let go of the ball so it could roll down the table. To make our results more accurate, we videoed the ball rolling down the table with a stopwatch on our phone following the ball. We then went through the video and paused it at every 10cm and recorded the time it took for each 10cm interval from 0cm to 150cm. We did this experiment with 2cm, 4cm, and 6cm inclines to show
In this ball drop experiment, a ball is dropped from a fixed height of h1. It then bounces upward
Coastal erosion is a growing problem along the Gulf Coast. Louisiana is one of the coastal states most affected by coastal erosion. Ninety percent of wetland loss in the nation occurs in Louisiana, losing 25-35 square miles per year. At that rate, Louisiana will lose 640,000 more acres by 2050. Many factors contribute to this land loss, such as rising sea levels, subsidence, hurricane storm surge, cold fronts, and human interference. Cold fronts and hurricanes can both have detrimental consequences on the coast of Louisiana (Zhang 2004) (Restore or Retreat 2012). This research shows whether cold fronts or hurricanes have a larger effect on coastal erosion. The researcher will describe how historical and current satellite imagery help in determining the changes in the Louisiana coast. Based on previous research, the researcher believes that hurricanes have more of an effect on coastal erosion than cold fronts due to the high winds and storm surge.
Suppose a ball is released from a distance and rolls down an inclined plane, as shown in figure 1. At the bottom of the inclined plane, the ball strikes a level tabletop and bounces away. The inclined plane may be rotated to give a steeper angle, which will affect the time of travel across the tabletop.
6) Now, we will manipulate the height and use only the largest marble out of the four marbles. To manipulate we will use textbooks. We will test three heights, one textbook which is about 3.5cm, two textbooks which is about 7.5cm, and three textbooks which is about 10.8cm. Do two trials for each height with the largest marble of the four marbles provided. Do not change the marble used. This will give us the time to calculate speed for each height.
The time of the filter paper to fall will be measured by a stopwatch. The filter paper will be dropped at an initial height of 2.54 m where time will start recording when the filter paper is dropped and stopped when it makes contact with the ground. The time will be recorded to the nearest .01s.
me is simply a marital one. What he means is that I am to keep this house, and he is to provide for it [...]. That explains why he treats me the way he treats me. I never understood why he did, but now it's clear. He doesn't love me. I thought he loved me and that he stayed with me because he loved me and that's why I didn't understand his behavior. But now I know, because he told me that he sees me as a person who runs the house. (Fornes, Conduct 1986, 69)
I chose debris flow because there are huge boulders with mud or water under it. It seemed to also have a path where it came from going downhill. Debris flows usually have lose rocks, soil, and water coming downstream as a
In Central Florida, sinkholes are a growing crisis. The causes of these sinkholes are numerous, but one of the main causes is because of Florida’s karst topography. According to the Oxford Dictionary, karst topography is “Landscape underlain by limestone that has been eroded by dissolution, producing ridges, towers, fissures, sinkholes, and other characteristic landforms.” Although sinkholes form unexpectedly without much warning, there are ways to prevent harm to people in Florida. Some ways to prevent sinkholes from causing harm and destruction is through methods of stabilization such as grouting, compaction grouting, underpinning, and remediation. Repairing a sinkhole can be terribly expensive, so choosing the right method is crucial when restoring sunken landscape.

The Sand Cone Model describes business improvement as a process which should be based on improving specific competitive dimensions in a different order (Meredith & Shafer, 2013). For instance, a business which is struggling with quality outputs should place an emphasis on improving the quality of its outputs first. Businesses that produce high quality outputs are successful over the long term. Matthew 7:24-25 (ESV) states, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” When a business builds its foundation on
Out of the many experiments being conducted, I have the pleasure of introducing a layered density column to the class. Density is defined as mass divided by volume or the amount of stuff in a certain amount of space. Composed of many different household products (vegetable oil, rubbing alcohol, and even water), density columns present different layers through the masses of each liquid. These columns can contain as many products the experimenter desires. The liquids chosen that have a higher density tend to weigh more, unlike those that weigh less and float to the top if poured into the column. Along with the liquids chosen objects can be placed into the column, and then we would be able to see how each layer has an effect on the objects.
