Investigate the rate of reaction between HCl and Na2S 2O3
For this piece of coursework we are investigating the rates of
reaction and he effect different changes have on them. The rate of
reaction is the rate of loss of a reactant or the rate of formation of
a product during a chemical reaction. We are studying the affect of
changing concentration of Na2S2O3 Solution and dilute HCl.
I believe these variables will affect the rate of reaction:
· Surface area
· Pressure
· Temperature
· Catalyst
· Concentration
Concentration
=============
If the concentration of a solution is increased there are more
reactant particles per unit volume. This increased the probability of
reactant particles colliding with each other.
Pressure
If the pressure is increased the particles in the gas are pushed
closer. This increases the concentration and that will change the rate
of reaction.
Surface Area
If a solid is powdered then there is a greater surface area available
for a reaction, compared to the same mass of unpowdered solid. Only
particles on the surface of the solid will be able to go though with
collisions with the particles in a solution or gas.
Temperature Change
When the temperature is raised these things may happen:
· The peak will be at a higher energy
· The peak is lower
· The peak is broader
· There is a large increase in the number of particles which higher
energies
Catalysts
A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a r...
For a reaction to occur, particles must collide. If the collision causes a chemical change it is referred to as a fruitful collision. (Hutchinson Educational Encyclopaedia, 2000) Enzymes increase the rate of exergonic reactions by decreasing the activation energy of the reaction. Exergonic reactions are those in which the free energy of the concluding state is lower than the free energy of the opening state.
Rate of Reaction Between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid Plan: In my experiment I will measure the rate of reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. The rate of the reaction is the speed that the reaction takes place so by measuring the rate I will measure the amount of time the reaction takes. Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid that is found in digestive juices in the stomach, it is also used for cleaning metals before they are coated. Calcium carbonate has a few forms including chalk and limestone the main use of these two materials is in the making of concrete, which is used for many things such as buildings. When you put calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid together they react to form calcium chloride, carbon dioxide and water.
If there is enough energy then the reaction takes place and a product is formed, but if there isn't enough then no reaction takes. place. The sand is There are two possibilities for increasing the rate of reaction. 1. What is the difference between a. and a.
Experiment is to investigate the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and calcium carbonate Hydrochloric acid + Calcium Carbonate Þ Calcium Chloride + Water + Carbon Dioxide 2HCl (aq) CaCo3 (s) CaCl2(s) H2O (aq) CO2 (g) There are a number of variables in this experiment and these are listed below as input variables and outcome variables.
from 10cm to 50cm to make it easier to see the difference in a graph.
Drafted men were in the Vietnam war with nothing to do but to fight. Many of the men had to leave their families behind and some people had to leave in the middle of the night. The United States military drafted 2.2 million American men out of 27 million eligible people to participate in the war. This is important because 2.2 million people could have volunteered but instead they had to draft people and take them away from their families. (University of Michigan, 1) They had the option to pick people who were eligible to go but they didn't they chose poor, non wealthy men. According to the article “The Military Draft During the Vietnam War,” “While many soldiers did support the war, at least initially, to others the draft seemed like a death sentence: being sent to a war and fight for a cause that they did not believe in.” (University of Michigan) This is important because many people had to fight in a war they did not want to and didn’t believe in, these men knew that they were most likely going to die and didn’t want to go.
The military draft is the random selection of men for compulsory military service. The draft in the United States hasn’t been in effect since 1973 but, before that, it caused a considerable amount of controversy during the Vietnam War. During those times the draft was one of the major issues that deeply divided the country, there were thousands of people trying to find ways out of the draft, and thousands of people accusing them of cowardice. It continues to be a topic of debate even today. The question we are faced with now is should the United States reinstate the draft? Both sides have some fair points, but I don’t believe that it would be necessary or wise.
Johann Sebastian Bach was born at Eisenach, in the region of Thuringia, Germany, in 1685. He was a composer and musician of the Baroque period. Bach was born in a family of long musical tradition as his antecessors had been professional musicians for several generations. Johann Sebastian grew under a strictly musical environment. All of his closest relatives were musicians, and by being surrounded by these influences, the young Johann Sebastian developed his musical and instrumental skills. Bach 's mother died in 1694, and his father died eight months later. Thus, at age 10, he had to move in with his oldest brother, Johann Christoph Bach , who was an organist
Experimental designs are viewed as the most accurate, and most demanding of research designs, requiring strict attention to rules and procedures. Researchers use these research designs to manipulate and control testing procedures as a way to understand a cause and effect relationship. Commonly, independent variables are manipulated to judge or decide their effect on a dependent variable (Trochim & Donnelly, 2008).
Reactions occur when the particles of reactants collide together continuously. If they collide with sufficient energy, then they will react. The minimum amount of kinetic energy required for particles at the time of collision is called the activation energy and this theory is known as the ?collision theory?.
Rate of Reaction - Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid. Aim Investigation, to find out how the rate of reaction between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid is affected by changing the concentration. Introduction I must produce a piece of coursework investigating the rate of reaction, and the effect different changes have on them. The rate of reaction is the rate of loss of a reactant, or the rate of development of a product during a chemical reaction. It is measured by dividing 1 by the time taken for the reaction to take place.
Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction between Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid Investigation Chemical reactions are used in our everyday life, they literally keep us alive. They are used in food, respiration and everywhere else in the environment. A chemical reaction mainly occurs when reactants react together to produce a new product. The speed at which this reaction takes place is called the rate of reaction. The product produced has a number of particles in the solution that has formed from the reactants.
Bach was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany, on March 21, 1685, he came from a family of musicians, going back several generations. Johann Ambrosius, his father, worked as the town musician in Eisenach, and he taught young Johann to play the violin.
The rate of reaction is how quickly or slowly reactants in chemical reactants turn into products. A low reaction rate is when the reaction takes a long time to take place; hence, a reaction that occurs quickly has a high reaction rate. A rate refers to how slow or quick the product is produced. It is possible to control the rate of chemical reactions and speed up or slow down the rate of chemical reactions by altering three main factors which are temperature, concentration and the surface area. When the temperature of the reactants increases, the molecules vibrate at a more intense speed therefore colliding with each other more frequently and with increased energy resulting in a greater rate of reaction. Accordingly, as the temperature decreases the molecules will move slower, colliding less frequently and with decreased energy resulting in the rate of reaction decreasing. Concentration is how much solute is dissolved into a solution and is also a factor that affects the rate of reaction. When the concentration is greater this means there is an increased amount of reactant atoms and molecules resulting in a higher chance that collisions between molecules will occur. A higher collision rate means a higher reaction rate. Consequently at lower concentrations there are reduced chances of the molecules colliding resulting in a lower reaction rate. The measurement of how much an area of a solid is exposed is called the surface area. The quicker a reaction will occur the more finely divided the solid is. For example, a powdered solid will usually have a greater rate of reaction in comparison to a solid lump that contains the same mass for it has a lower surface area than the powdered solid.
There are 3 types of research design which can be used in conducting studies which consists exploratory research, descriptive research and causal research. Exploratory research is used when few or no previous studies exists (Neville, 2007). While, causal research is a type of investigation in which the researcher has no direct...
