Rivera recalls during the interview that when he was getting back home on a lonely stretch of a country road, he came across a thick blanket of fog. Then two strange being appeared before him and one of them approached him from the passenger’s side at which Rivera passed out and was taken to a strange place. Rivera claimed that “extraterrestrial human” who looked like human and had a long hair said he was from another planet. He adds that the “human” was verbally talking to him and was not using any telepathic method for communication. This “human” was talking to him about things that were even incredible to Rivera. Furthermore, the alien showed holographic projection of where it was from and said that meteor was falling soon in the earth and
the earth would be ruled by one government in an “artificial island in dark black dirty sea”. After the encounter, Rivera was left at the place where he first met them and he presents the picture he took while the UFO was leaving along with a jet. This jet was later claimed by the conspiracy theorist to be F-14 jets which were then used for the similar purpose. He also goes on to add what most of the believer of conspiracy theories like to believe that the government is keeping a secret and telling lies to people. The story Rivera presents is similar to the one often portrayed by the sci-fi movies relating to aliens and extra-terrestrial species. And the images he present as a proof can’t clearly tell if his encounter was real and those images could have been edited using some image editing techniques or software. I believe the reason behind why Rivera’s image was able to get so much attention was particularly because of the time. During 1990s concept of photo editing was not as popular as it is today. However, the process was not non-existent. There is no proof presented that these images were original and were not edited. Similarly, the photo of aliens and UFO is not clear enough to convince us that they were really the photograph of alien and UFO and were not something else that could have been made to look like them.
"Maybe he understood for the first time that to the boy he was himself an alien. A being from a planet that no longer existed. The tales of which were suspect. He could not construct for the child's pleasure the world he'd lost without constructing the loss as well and he thought perhaps the child had known this better than he" (McCarthy 129-130).
Immigration is a large aspect of American history. In the book Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez, we are able to see the struggles of one Hispanic boy immigrating to the United States from Mexico. Many of the people in the community that Francisco lived in didn’t really accept Hispanic people. It was really depressing that he would make friends, go over to their house and their parents wouldn’t let him come over again, simply because he was Hispanic. In Diversity Matters the text states, “Unique stresses created by the process of immigration to another country and discrimination faced in the new country can create psychological distress for many immigrants” (Spradlin 126). During this time in America, there was still a lot of discrimination going on not only with Hispanics, but other minority races like African Americans. This really goes to show how far our country has come over the years. There is still a long way to go, but I think that if people are more educated and aware of the discrimination people face on a daily basis they will be more open-minded. The United States is becoming more open to diversity, but first we will look at the struggles of one Hispanic boy growing up here illegally in Breaking Through.
I thought that Diane Guerrero who is an American actress speech about her family’s deportation was interesting. She recently appeared on an immigration themed of Chelsea handler’s talk show. Guerrero is the citizen daughter of immigrant parents. Guerrero mentioned how her family was taken away from her when she was just 14 years old. “Not a single person at any level of government took any note of me. No one checked to see if i had a place to live or food to eat, and at 14, i found myself basically on my own”, Guerrero added. Luckily, Guerrero had good friends to help her. She told handler how her family try to become legal but there were no sign or help. Her parents lost their money to scammers who they believed to be a lawyer. When her family’s

“Tape” is a short ten minute play by Jose Rivera. It’s a play that only has two characters, a Person and an Attendant. It takes place in a small dark room with no windows and only one door. Inside the room are a chair and a table with a reel-to-reel tape recorder and a glass and pitcher of water. This play is about a Person who is brought to the small room by the Attendant to listen to every lie the Person has told in life. Every single lie was recorded and now it’s time that the Person gets to listen to all of them. All ten thousand boxes full of recorded lies. Even though lying will cause trustworthy issues, lying is always wrong and will never get you far in life because it hurts others and creates bigger problems and that’s exactly what happened to the Person.
The purpose of this memo is to compare the similarities and contrast the differences between Jimmy Hoffa Sr. and Cesar Chavez. Both Hoffa and Chavez were great charismatic labor organizers who had different methods of achieving their goals for their union. They had vastly different attitudes and personalities which aided them both in different ways. To fully understand each individual, a bit of background information is necessary.
There is no secret that films in the genre of biopic can often stretch the truth. These types of movies are frequently mere depictions of myth that is loosely based on factual accounts rather than being accurate representations of history. Many ethical dilemmas arise from these circumstances. Among those are the damaging representations that may skew a viewer’s perception of how history may have actually played out. Should filmmakers warn viewers that certain historical details of their forthcoming motion picture have been changed for the purpose of film? What are the editorial ethics when important details pertaining to vital pieces of history are left on the proverbial cutting room floor? The brand new film “Cesar Chavez” does a lot of work to bring about the often untold story of the California migrant farmworkers labor activism and organizing, yet in the process, manages to erase the pertinent contributions of the Filipino who many consider as the pioneers of these movements.

In 1531, ten years after the capture of Mexico City, a poor Indian named Juan Diego left his house to attend divine service in the beginning of December. On his way he passed the hill of Tepeyacac ("Hill of the Nose", in Nahuatl) and he heard beautiful music from the top of the hill. The music was heavenly; he heard the most beautiful songbirds singing soft and pleasant. He wondered if he was worthy of hearing such beautiful music, and if maybe it was a dream. He thought he might have died and gone to heaven. Over the sounds of birds Juan heard a voice from the hilltop; however, it did not frighten him. In fact he was strangely set at ease by the voice. He climbed the hill in search of the mysterious voice. When he reached the top of the hill he saw a magnificent woman who appeared to glow like nothing he had ever seen before. She radiated like the sun, and the stones that she was standing on were like gems beneath her feet. The foliage surrounding the magnificent woman was full of translucent colors that glimmered in the radiating light.
In 1932 Wilhelm Valentiner commissioned Diego Rivera to construct a fresco to capture the true meaning of Detroit’s Industry. Rivera came to Detroit at a time when the great depression had hit hardest and he used this tumultuous time that had forced it’s way over the city as inspiration for his work. For it to embody the true significance of the industry in Detroit, he began the mural with a piece which symbolized a fruitful harvest, and more importantly, a new beginning. As Rivera progresses with his mural, it is evident what the the commercial meant by experiencing the finer things in life. From the early stages of assembly of the new 1938 Ford V8, to the finishing touches of the exterior and the diversity of the people working on these cars, and finally the negative implications of what technology and economic prosperity can bring. These aspects all encompass what Rivera intended when representing Industry in Detroit, as well as what it means for a city like Detroit to enjoy the finer things in life.
In Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story “When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine”, Lilia's coming of age is exemplified by the in-depth observations that she begins to make, in addition to the more complex emotions she starts experiencing that are both conveyed through her point of view. As Lilia develops throughout the story, she gradually comes to learn things about the world that surround her due to the observations that she begins to make. When Lilia hangs up the phone with her mother on Halloween to say she made it to her friend Dora’s house safely, she notes, “When I replaced the phone on the receiver it occurred to me that the television wasn’t on at Dora’s house at all. Her father was lying on the couch, reading a magazine, with a glass of wine on the

The book Blood Orange by Angela Narciso Torres is an accumulation of poems that flow together to create a story. The story takes the reader through the journey of her life and her experiences as we see through each poem she progresses into a mature woman. She cuts the story of poems into three sections, which mostly divides the major age differentiation. For example in Section one she is a young girl and when we reach towards section two, we see that she is a mother of her own and in section three we see more of her life after children. I enjoyed that each poem was almost a glimpse of a time period within her life as she grows. She made it interesting as well, when she put poems in a different format and in some poems she decided to go more into detail to create imagery for the reader, meanwhile in others she decided to do a
On his journey to cross the border, Enrique has encountered different people who either are detrimental to his progress or helpful and generous. In Chiapas, begging was dangerous because the residents hated migrants. However, once Enrique reached Oaxaca and Veracruz, the citizens greeted him with many gifts such as clothing and food. The people wait outside for the trains to pass by and throw gifts onto the train for the immigrants. Many of them understand that the immigrants had to leave because of the struggling conditions in their countries such as poverty. It’s believed that the root of the generosity of the people in Oaxaca and Veracruz is in their ancient cultures. Once Enrique and the other travelers reach Mexico City, the generosity
Gallup uses surveys to obtain information on major policies, economics, and every day environmental issues that is both world wide and national as well. Gallup is being used in 160 countries in two very big ways. They have two different methods they use and the the first one is through telephone polls, they randomly call people to survey them over the phone. They use this message to get a hold of people out of the country because it’s a easier message to contact them or the fastest way to get a hold of them. So I can’t message to use a face-to-face interview where they have an hour long interview talking about developing different countries that are in need of help. I really think that these message really are effective, because a lot of people
