Many times in our society intelligence is judged by test scores, careers, and success. Although these methods of measuring intelligence are not always accurate they are still used. IQ tests are given to people and the scores on these tests are supposed to reflect the level of intelligence a person has. What makes these tests so accurate? What about intelligent people who do not take tests well? They may become nervous and may not work well under pressure.
I believe there are many forms of intelligence, some more important than others are. A person may be very smart but when it comes to subjects like math and science, but when it comes to English and writing they may not know much about it. Also, some people may not do very well in school but can fix almost anything that you put in front of them.
Often times those who are smart in school subject lack the common sense needed to survive outside of work or school although that is not always the case. Others who may very intelligent when it comes to common sense and making the right decision on the street lack the wisdom need in school or work. This is a critical part of survival and I believe common sense is needed just as much as anything else.
There are those people who are naturally smart, who grasp concepts well, and do not need to study much at all to do well. There are others who need to work hard to do well. They need to study and ...
People can achieve intelligent by learning or by following their passion in whatever they love. If someone loves fixing cars there is a chance he will become a mechanic, so he will be intelligent in that careers. That is how someone becomes intelligent because they learned everything they can about their profession in book or by what they learn on the streets. To become a intelligent person is important in society because that sets a standard for us and we try to learn everything we can to be the best in our jobs and careers, so we can be the best in our field.
Before answering the questions let find out what intelligence test is. It is a test consisting of a series of tasks requiring people to use various verbal and non verbal skills to measure the individual’s intellectual ability. Now that we know what an intelligence test is we can now answer the question better. Three important short comings of intelligence test that have nothing to do with intelligence are: having low motivation or high anxiety which can greatly influence the performance on the test, also IQ test may contain cultural biases in their language and or tasks that may place people of one background above people of another back ground, and members of minority groups may have little experience with this kind of test or may be uncomfortable with examiners of a different ethnic back ground than them (Comer, 2013, pp.107).
...hether or not street smarts or books smarts is best can not be fully answered. To have every student pleased and working without any interruption is a bit of a far fetched idea, because not everyone will be happy with changes and adjustments. We can though, work towards a system that allows both sides of the educational field to succeed, no matter how they learn. By looking over Graff’s claim, it can be conclude that how a student learns may need to be reevaluated and changed into something new that can adapt and grow with every type of student in order to enrich the standard idea of an education really is for everyone.
A controversial debate has been at hand for several years. Many view education as learning from your outside surroundings and gaining information through first-hand contact. Knowing information is one aspect, but the ability to apply the knowledge is another. In "How To Get a Real Education," Scott Adams argues that students should choose courses that are practical to daily life and therefore should not have to sit through the monotonous classes taught today. According to Adams, if someone is not "book smart," they should not have to sit through the same courses as those heading for that 4.0 GPA; it is a waste of time. While having "street smarts" is a crucial component to surviving in society, the same can be said of "book smarts." His outline
“As a human being, one has been endowed with just enough intelligence to be able to see clearly how utterly inadequate that intelligence is when confronted with that exists” (Albert Einstein) Everyone is intelligent in many ways. People can also learn in many, many ways. An example is how musicians are smart in music and write the music in many ways. There are many ways unexpected people are intelligent and here are three ways that people can be intelligent.
Street smart students are much smarter than book smart students because of their knowledge and experiences. Author states in the article “I believe that street smarts beat out book smarts in our culture not because street smarts are nonintellectual, as we generally suppose, but because they satisfy an intellectual thirst more thoroughly than school culture, which seems pale and unreal,” which means that street smart students are smarter than book smart students because of their vast amount of information about many things and previous experiences. Author is right about his point that street smart students get more out of their mistakes and learn more from their previous experiences. According to author, street smart students always try to learn from their mistakes where book smart students rely on the books and information from the studies. Book smart students never try to experience the situation of an issue, which gives them biased information and they don’t learn much, where street smart students experience the situation of an issue and learn much more than book smarts. Book smart students are also smart because they learn a lot of information from books and readings also they know how to use that information properly to succeed in academic area, but these students learn very much less from their mistakes and previous experiences to succeed, than street smart students.
Since intelligence is usually judged in IQ tests or just tests in school, many individuals are claimed to have average or little intelligence. They struggle in school, trying to learn math, English, reading; but they may excel in other places like sports, music, or relationships. This is where Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences comes into play. He proposed that there are eight forms of intelligence, possibly more. The two that are seen in school often are Logical-Mathematical and Linguistic-Verbal. The people who excel at these are seen as geniuses and are thought to do very well in life. The others that don’t do well in those two may be better at one of the other six.
Moreover, it defines the relationship between the practitioner the patient. This theory makes a lot of sense to me and I couldn’t agree more with the importance of an interpersonal relationship between the practitioner and the patient. Practitioners can't do their jobs satisfactorily without the help and cooperation of the patients and the patients cannot begin to get better without the help and cooperation of practitioners. Interpersonal relationships are critical for positive patient outcomes and this begins from the first moment of introduction and continues from that moment on. The trust and connection need to be there from start to finish and is not always easy if you only have a short amount of time with the client. According to Fawcett & Desanto-Madeya (2013), Peplau saw that both the nurse and the patient participate in and contribute to a relationship and, further, that the relationship itself could be therapeutic (p. 382). This simply means that the nurse-patient relationship could be beneficial for the patients in their healing process.
Most researchers believe that we are born with a certain intelligence or potential intelligence. They also believe that the intelligence we are born with is difficult to change. Psychologists use short-answer tests to assess one’s intelligence (Gardner papers). It was believed that intelligence was a single inherited thing. Human beings start out initially as a blank slate and could be trained to learn anything, provided that it was presented in an appropriate way (Multiple Intelligences and Education). Currently an “increasing number of researchers believe the opposite. Gardner defined intelligence as: “the ability to create an effective product or offer a service that is valued in culture; a set ...
A theory I can relate to is Nightingales theory, I found her theory to be extremely interesting. A patient health is affected by the environment that they are in, whether it is at the hospital or at their house. Once a patient is discharged the nurse should be aware of the patient home environment, what they have access to, and what they don’t have.
Can intelligence be measured? Does an IQ test actually measure a person’s intelligence? Does a high score indicate a genius? Does a low score indicate stupidity or merely ignorance? These questions have been asked over and over again by psychiatrists and scientists alike, but to date there are no clear answers. These questions cannot be answered without first defining what is meant by the term intelligence. Once intelligence has been defined then it should be easy to answer these questions; however, multiple definitions of the word tend to lead to further confusion.
Intelligence by definition is “the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills” (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). However, many psychologists argue that there is no standard definition of ‘intelligence’, and there have been many different theories over time as psychologists try to find better ways to define this concept (Boundless 2013). While some believe in a single, general intelligence, others believe that intelligence involves multiple abilities and skills. Another largely debated concept is whether intelligence is genetically determined and fixed, or whether is it open to change, through learning and environmental influence. This is commonly known as the nature vs. nurture debate.
One of the theorist I connect with is Florence Nightingale. As a nurse I believe your care should always be centered around the patient. We are there to serve no one else but the patient. And that is my number one priority. Many things impact recovery. Nightingale’s Environmental Theory (as cited in Blais & Hayes, 2011) is centered to “utilize the environment of the patient to assist in recovery.”
Strategy is known as in which ways firms manage with the external and internal situations which is going around with the corporate world, which are vibrant and promising. Corporate rivals, new trends and technologies all transform time to time. Companies ought to exploit their entire strategic assets which conclude specially their workers, manage with stakeholders like financial contributor and providers in order to meet customer expectation and satisfaction. At times it is compulsory that they deal with governmental and more bounds and most of the times they need to outsmart their rivals. The strategic management procedure is the mixture of various things such as refining the anticipated ends, by innovating strategies figuring out a way in order to accomplish them, applying those tactics in to reality by implementing them, varying what the firms have been doing strategically in terms of facing competition along with unpredictable matters that appears and eventually assessing growth and accomplishment. For making it happen effectively, companies require a explicit, if possible extensive, vision and desire for being amenable in its own quest (Thompson & Martin, 2010). To grow well firms needs to experience the customer’s aspiration and if possible outdo their competitors. Hence we might assume strategies in three various aspects such as competitiveness, ability and opportunity. Strategies are all about innovation and thoughts and deliverance – putting it in to practice and this implementation is entirely rely on people working cohesively and effectively in companies or they are unconnected. In order to remain one step ahead from their competitors firms should respond what is going around and react preventively to that. The capabil...
When a person utters the word “intelligence,” people tend to think of a genius like Albert Einstein developing some obscure equation that the great majority of the population will never understand. The problem with the definition of intelligence is that people relate intelligence to words like “genius” which require intelligence but do not have the same definition as intelligence. Often, people try to use related words to define intelligence, but these words are unable to define intelligence since many are only different levels of intelligence. While many definitions try to encompass the meaning of intelligence and various definitions describe a small part of intelligence, no definition completely explains intelligence, because intelligence is a concept that is understood only after realizing that intelligence is based on three basic concepts: logic, growth, and emotion. Although many people believe that humans are the only creatures capable of intelligence, other animals exhibit intelligence and are capable of further demonstrate the complex concept of intelligence.
