We know Institutionalization among inmates is when an inmate, who has lived in the prison system for a long-time, the person has adapted to the normal ways of being in prison and cannot seem to adapt to ways outside the prison system. In most long-term incarcerations, institutionalization is bound to happen because they have lived in routine day in and day out for such a long time, (learned how operate while in prison)??, and living for free with no bills to pay( like a place to sleep)??, meals to eat and medical attention; to (include dental,)?? if needed. According to The Addiction Web Site of Terence T. Gorski, “Currently 60% of prisoners have been in prison before and there is growing evidence that the Post Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) is a contributing factor to this high rate of recidivism” (Gorski). Recidivism refers to a person’s relapse into criminal behavior, often to (purposely get back in prison to their normal life they are used too)???. Institutionalization …show more content…
