Inspiration The Bluest Eye is a novel written by a creative writer Toni Morrison. Toni Morrison uses this book as inspiration to recognize the true meaning of valuing yourself. This book was written for the public so that it could shadow how young girls should admire self love. Toni Morrison as a young girl who grew up in the North, however the south had an impact on how she learned. Morrison was brought up in religious environment and she states "We were taught that as individuals we had value, irrespective of what the future might hold for us.". She was surrounded with racial prejudice while attending a school that ignored any offering of non whites, Which could have really had an effect on her self esteem. For example you have parents who are poor examples. Pauline a mother to one of the children doesn't even show the true her to her community. It states “ Pauline kept this order, this beauty, for herself, a private world, and never introduced it to her storefront or her children” (Morrison.143). Also “If Pecola would had announced her intention to live the life they did they would have not tried to dissuade..” . These two quotes show how the mothers barely even care for their daughters to acknowledge her beauty let alone their own. While parents should be teaching their children to love themselves this book had plenty of the opposites. Also their is a part where it talks about how the parents have no respect for themselves. It states “They were whores in whore clothing who had never been young and had no word for innocence.”(Morrison.72). That quote shows how the young girls throughout the story barely had any role models to look up to so they could admire themselves. They were surrounded by influences that couldn’t show them the right way to love themselves. Consequently, leading to get the readers to acknowledge how self love can be important. That quote shows how the black people in the small community are expected to be as elegant as the whites. They do normal things but still have to advance as if they are white. Yet they don't get treated the same. Not being treating the same but having to reach the same level as others with higher power could have possibly been the reason for the low self esteem and the loss of confidence.
