We as individuals do NOT understand the problems with overpopulation. We do not take the time or the effort to be educated enough; therefore we do not help in the prevention of future problems to keep our society as it is now.
We may not do this, but I researched of three sociologists that do;
Lester R Brown,
Gary Gardner,
and Brian Halweil.
These 3 men decided to put together their intelligence to try and educate America the problems that come with overpopulation.
These 3 men proved their self-lessness, sincerity, and their caring TOWARDS the people of America.
These 3 men showed us that with a little effort from everyone, there can be sunshine the next day.
These 3 men decided to write about the darkest, deepest of situations only to have all of us, and everyone else become knowledgeable of the issues of overpopulation.
These three men chose to take time out of their lives to attempt to help our nation and the lives of you and me.
These 3 men help make possible the fresh air we breath, the availability of clean water to cleanse ourselves, the roofs we have over our head, just because they took the time to announce the problems with overpopulation.
Because of these 3 men we have freedom to do with our lives as we choose.
If these 3 men did not take the time to explain the severity of the problems, we eventually would have restricted choices.
If these 3 men did not take the time to educate the people we would have no preparation for a single problem that may arise from overpopulation, this would mean utter chaos.
Our nation has controlled population and prevented the problems that could have happened, now we must maintain that pride for our future generations as these three men did for us.
Because of our control over population, our nation has given us the best of both worlds. We can not even imagine how life would be anywhere else; maybe it would be like living on the streets, or even in a gutter.
Because our nation has such control, many people take our freedom for advantage. People need to appreciate each and everything given to us, from the chair you sit in now, to the heart that is beating in your chest.
People need to appreciate that they can wake up in the morning to arrive at their job, or even at school.
People need to appreciate the fact that we do not have restricting laws telling us how many children we are allowed to have, that we do not have authorities regulating our everyday decisions.
Together these two figures touched the lives of the people they fought for. Trying their hardest and giving all they had to correct the injustice that was happening. America is a melting pot for all different kinds of cultures and for their to be discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated. Martin Luther King Jr. and Elizabeth Cady Stanton can be considered heroes, for they dedicated their life to the betterment of a group of people they related so fondly
should be listed in the list of great American presidents because he had the guts to give
“Notes of a Native Son” is faceted with many ideas and arguments. The essay begins with Baldwin recounting July 29, 1943. The day his father died and his mother bore her last child (63). Baldwin shares his fathers’ past and of the hate and bitterness that filled him and how Baldwin realizes that it may soon fill him also. Baldwin spends the rest of the essay mostly analyzing his experiences and the behavior and mentality of his father, of whom he seemed to dislike. He comes to the conclusion that one must hold true two ideas: “. . . acceptance, totally without rancor, of life as it is and men as they are: in light of this idea... injustice is...
...el 125). Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are both remembered as strong leaders who shared an equal dream that one day their people would be free from racism and oppression. They believed in this dream so strongly they sacrificed their lives for it.
James Baldwin was born in Harlem in a time where his African American decent was enough to put more challenges in front of him than the average (white) American boy faced. His father was a part of the first generation of free black men. He was a bitter, overbearing, paranoid preacher who refused change and hated the white man. Despite of his father, his color, and his lack of education, James Baldwin grew up to be a respected author of essays, plays, and novels. While claiming that he was one of the best writers of the era could be argued either way, it is hard to argue the fact that he was indeed one of the most well-known authors of the time. One of his intriguing skills as a writer is his ability to intertwine narration and analysis in his essays. James Baldwin mixes narration and analysis in his essays so well that coherence is never broken, and the subconscious is so tempted to agree with and relate to what he says, that if you don’t pay close attention, one will find himself agreeing with Baldwin, when he wasn’t even aware Baldwin was making a point. Physical placement of analytical arguments and analytical transitions, frequency and size of analytical arguments, and the language used within the analytical arguments are the keys to Baldwin’s graceful persuasion. Throughout this essay, I will be using Baldwin’s “Notes of a Native Son” for examples. “Notes of a Native Son” is an essay that Baldwin wrote which focuses primarily on his life around the time his father died, which also happens to be the same time his youngest brother was born.
These three men play important roles in the resistance of settlers and army forces. They were all intelligent and lived for their people. They wanted a good life for the people who were left to live on the reservations.
And the way his legacy has made our people bring upon a powerful resource to make efforts to change our society throughout all races.
To conclude, we have had a fair share of struggle to get America to where it is now. In a way we are a free country because of what these three men have sacrificed, but we will not continue this way if we do not keep striving for more. We have to set an example for new generation coming up and we have to let people know that the work our ancestors and people like Dr. King, Emmett, and Abraham did not work for nothing. The day will come when history might repeat itself, but we need to be prepared and ready so that when it appears we will not let our future return as our past.
Lee was able to use the gentleness he experienced first hand from his father on his wife who also had a splinter. He knew how to treat her with care and how to distract her so she does not cry out when the splinter is removed almost as if he is his own father and his wife is his seven year old self. From his father, he was able to learn compassion and from his father he was able to care for his own family. Baldwin learned from his father that even though as colored people, they are considered free at the time, there are still rampant racism throughout the United States. It doesn’t matter if he was in Harlem or New Jersey, he experienced the kind of racism that hardened his father and made him such a bitter man. He could see the hypocrisy of justice in terms of racism and sees himself just as a pawn in a much larger game of life where everyone was just playing their part with people such as him finding himself oppressed. It is then that he understands why his father is the way he is and he finds himself starting to feel the same feelings experienced by his
The significance of these men and the impact they have had on western civilization is what makes the great issues that we study today. These are in fact the lives and the legacies left behind by individual people. Without these people, where would our society be? That is a question that we will never know. However, could of someone else created the same result? Is it destiny for certain things to occur? We do not know, but we do know that these individuals have created great issues of history. Great issues are the result of one individual in an event or movement that affects how we live life today. As a modern example, look at the situation in Colorado, that is the work of individuals. The power, influence, and actions of one man to create a great issue can not be overlooked. Not that the results of their actions is either good or bad, but their actions have created great issues, ones that will effect our lives and everyone’s to follow.
One of the most definitive things ever said regarding the nature of intelligence was that intelligence is whatever IQ tests measure. The IQ test has been in use throughout the 20th century and serves as an accepted measure of a person’s intelligence. It is used by institutions such as schools and the army to screen people’s level of intelligence and decisions are made based on that. The IQ test consists of a series of questions regarding certain skills such as vocabulary, mathematics, spatial relations. The scores that a person gets on these tests depend on the amount of questions that a person answers correctly. The actual score that a person gets is dependant on how others in that age group do on those particular questions.
These men and women are walking heros. They leave everything behind in order for us to live in a free and safe country. They begin this journey at a young age. The
... us making time in our busy lives to serve people in need, they too will learn the importance of self-sacrifice. Our actions speak louder than our words. We can preach to them all day long about service and sacrificing for others, but if they don’t witness our active participation in these acts, they will likely follow our example and not heed our words.
Individuals can play a role in helping with the fallouts as outlined in the previous paragraphs though. Whether this is volunteering to help clean up a dirtied beach littered with garbage or switching to a water efficient nozzle so less water is wasted when you shower, these are just a few examples of immediate solutions that can make a collective difference. It ultimately won’t help the issue of overpopulation but can help deter the consequences as in the end, the concern revolves around the ability to sustain our world as more bodies are introduced. Keeping in mind that as society grows, the world makes advancements that work as viable solutions that tackle these problems. There just needs to be a mindset of utilizing more efficient measures into our daily lives right now so that we can make a positive difference. Even if it does not solve the issue in the long run, it does influence those around us and pushes the world towards a common goal one step at a time. It was said by Brundtlan (WCED, 1987) that:
Intelligence can be defined in many different ways. This concept has been the focus of numerous studies and investigations by psychologists and other scientific experts. Intelligence can be the mental ability to reason, plan ahead, understand a wide range of complex issues and learn from past experiences (Gottfredson, 1997). Intelligence is the “resultant of the process of acquiring, storing in memory, retrieving, combining, comparing, and using in new contexts information and conceptual skills” (Humphreys, 1979)
