Martin Luther King Jr. and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were two pivotal figures who fought for what they believed in. Stanton’s speech “Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions” and King’s “I Have a Dream” speech shook the grounds at which they spoke on. Both alike, MLK and Elizabeth Stanton were activists who were hard-working, passionate for what they believed in and were never going to give up. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, born in 1815, was known for her dedicated role as a women’s rights activist. At the peak of her career, she teamed up with Susan B. Anthony and formed the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) and also eventually brought about the passage of the 19th amendment, giving all American citizens the right to vote. But before all that, Stanton started out as an abolitionist, spending her time focused on abolishing slavery but then later becoming more interested in women’s suffrage. Stanton did most of her work in the 19th century. At this time there was a slow but sure increase in women’s fight for their rights. Along with Stanton, women such as Sarah Moore Grimke, Mary Walker, and Susan B. Anthony put forth their efforts during the same time as well. Contrary to Stanton, King’s prime time was in the 1950’s. During this time he worked endlessly and gave everything could for the civil right movement while Stanton spent most of her life being dedicated to women’s suffrage. Together these two figures touched the lives of the people they fought for. Trying their hardest and giving all they had to correct the injustice that was happening. America is a melting pot for all different kinds of cultures and for their to be discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated. Martin Luther King Jr. and Elizabeth Cady Stanton can be considered heroes, for they dedicated their life to the betterment of a group of people they related so fondly
