Specific Purpose:
To persuade my audience to become more involved in their environment. My main purpose is to convince them to purchase and recycle goods.
Central Idea:
Recycling items can both help preserve the Earth and save it from pollution. Every resource on Earth will not be around forever.
Organizational Pattern:

Introduction
I. Attention Getter:
Raise your hand if you have ever been given a balloon at your birthday party. Raise your hand if you have ever been given a balloon on Valentine’s Day. I have an interesting quote for you all to hear. According to Independent.com, “The world could run out of helium within 25 to 30 years”. I’m guessing that you never thought about running out of helium. We often takes the little

Recycling is very important factor in protecting both humans and animals.
1. According to LovetoKnow.com “Over 40,000 trees could be saved if all morning newspapers in the United States were recycled for one day”
2. Areas such as the rainforest are home to many different species of animals and even some humans.
B. Landfills have been a constant issue all over the entire world
1. Landfills are large locations used to dispose garbage and other forms of waste. In a recent study by HowStuffWorks.com “Today, we still dump more than 100 million tons of trash into landfills annually”.
2. The problem with landfills is the pollution caused by them. Different toxins are put into the landfills in order to break down the waste. This waste often runs off into water which can harm both humans and animals.
(Transition: Now that I have discussed why we should recycle, I want to discuss what types of objects we can recycle.)
II. You are probably asking yourself what type of items can be recycled. (Monroe – Satisfaction)
A. Electronics can easily be recycled into new things 1. DVD’s, CD’s, Cell Phones, MP3 Players, TV’s , etc
2. We all have an old cell phone or CD we don’t use anymore. If you recycle it instead of throwing it away you can decrease the amount of trash in

Reducing simply means using less things in your daily routine. An example of this is using both sides of the paper when writing or printing. If everyone did this thousands of trees would be saved ever year.
B. Reuse means using an item for another purpose before throwing it away or recycling it. A simple way to do it. An example of this is using reusable bags for multiple purposes instead of immediately throwing it away.
C. I have already covered recycling. This step is simply putting objects such as newspapers and cans inside a recycle bin. Again this will drastically decrease the amount of waste in the landfills.
Conclusion:
Review: To conclude my speech, recycling is very important when it comes to the preserving the environment. We only have one Earth and the things we do everyday are constantly destroying it. We can create a better and safer environment to live for today and the next generation.
Final statement: Most people believe that in order to reduce, reuse and recycle you need to spend more money and long hours devoted to it. Little things you do will make a huge difference. Things such as turning off your water while brushing your teeth, using one less napkin or turning off the lights will help create a better
Harmful emissions from the landfills escape into the air we breathe. The soil and water are also contaminated from our
In conclusion to this investigation one thing is clear and that is that recycling reeks benefits to the environment, Recycling material when compared to making material from raw material is a more efficient energy saving and more environmentally friendly way to reuse material that is usually consider as trash such as empty glass, and plastic bottles, or old newspapers. Recycling helps reduce the possible carbon emissions greatly and does reduce the human carbon footprint. But Recycling doesn’t resolve the pollution that is around the world today. Leading to new questions, questions like what about the landfills are they sustainable, and if so for how long. How long until the air becomes unbreathable? How long until Earth becomes its own furnace?
Recycling is the practice of reusing old products to create knew ones in order to essentially “re use” them. In theory, this process is supposed to work perfectly, but because of other factors it doesn’t. The whole idea of recycling is supposed to lead, eventually, to a world where everything will be recycled and used over and over again; thus, no more mining, cutting down tress, and other jobs that require people to do some sort of labor in order to create a certain type of object. The process of recycling would in due time, end these types of labor. Recycling is not entirely a good thing because not everyone does, it requires unnecessary funds, and it takes away many jobs.
In conclusion, the impact I personally have on the planet has surprised me. My personal ecological footprint is much larger than I expected. However, there are measures I can take to drop my current consumption rate, such as altering my recycling choices, making better purchasing decisions, and adopting the reduce, reuse, and recycle concept throughout my household. By altering my habits and consumption rate, I can affect my local community tremendously in a positive way for the planet Earth.
The words ‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ are what a person chants if someone mentions the word recycling. Nicks J defines recycling as ‘[T]he processing of waste materials in order to make them reusable” (11). Individuals who recycle are not just throwing papers in green bins, or cans in blue; in fact, they are helping the environment more than they can imagine. People who want to preserve and protect their planet take the initiative to recycle waste materials. Rather than throwing away old plastic or glass bottles, aluminum cans, and certain types of paper, one can simply recycle them, and they will go through a cleaning and the remanufacturing process to be remade into a new usable item.
b. Another myth about landfills is that they are poisoning the soil and our water supply. Even the EPA, the Environmental Protection Agency, says modern landfills pose little to no risk to humans. Modern landfills are built on a thick foundation of clay and plastic liners. Also, the methane gas produced in biodegradation is often...
Recycling is one of the easiest ways to save energy for all the living things on Earth. Recycling save energy because using recyclable items that are not recycled can take a lot of energy. Recycling often saves energy because the products being recycled usually require much less processing to turn them into usable materials. Sometimes recycling can also save energy for goods which is
Many people believe that we should not recycle anymore, but this is not the case. We, the people of the world, need to continue to recycle because we do not want our children to grow up in a world where there are no certain species of animals due to recycling failures. We also do not want our children to grow up thinking that it is okay that they throw their garbage on the ground, and not have to pick it up. We need to teach our children that they need to take care of the earth that they are living on, because they only get one. Recycling is one of the most beneficial environmental issues that we have here on this earth. Recycling saves energy, limits pollution and supports several environmental factors of the economy. “In 2003, the savings from recycling 54 billion aluminum cans exceeded the energy equivalent of 15 million barrels of crude oil- or the amount of gas the U.S. uses in one day,” according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA estimates that 200 million gallons of used oil are not disposed of properly, and if we were to dispose the oil properly then we could keep the oil from polluting the ground and the fresh water source. According to E. Takatori, “… While on-going societal regulation treats material recycling as the dominant cycle, the properties of recycled plastic remain the most port
I. There seem to be some background points I must go over before I can properly persuade you to recycle; this includes definitions and standard waste makeup.
One reason is that recycling can help save the earth from waste and trash build-up. For example, fifty percent of roofing and construction on houses is made from recycled aluminum cans. Using recycled materials to produce new products costs less money and less energy than new materials. It can also save valuable landfill space. People have trash everyday. Pretty much anything is recyclable. If you throw them away, it?s a waste of natural resources, a waste of energy, and a waste of money. Instead people should take the time collect these things and put some effort into helping in the world we live in.
In old batteries, there is a toxic lead that is causing health problems for the Taiwan people who are disposing these batteries (Gay, 12). Space is becoming a landfill from the excess of space flights and the radioactive supplies from nuclear reactors, which could come to our atmosphere and explode (Gay, 13). When businesses run out of space to dump their toxic trash they go to poor nations because they do not have strict safety regulations (Gay, 31). The landfills on Earth are not the only place trash is getting put. The ocean is being trashed with plastic bags, soda can holders, and large fishnets, which are harming dolphins, turtles, sea lions, and others (Gay, 69). Military bases in the U.S have more hazardous waste and are responsible for contamination in soil and waters (Gay, 83). There are other hazards happening because we are throwing away so much stuff that companies have to remake all of those products. Incinerators are places where waste is burned to ashes and if we recycle these can go away. Incinerators cause sulfur dioxide, carbon m...
Some people say recycling is a waste of time. If one is a very busy person, then maybe. But taking that extra two seconds to recycle, saving energy, money, resources, and the world isn’t a bad plan either. If everyone would take the extra two seconds to recycle, the extra effort would help to make the world would be a much cleaner and more efficient place. Recycling could also help to lower taxes in the long run. Recycled materials have value, and trash costs money. A city recycling program could sell it and make money. Then, with the extra money, the city wouldn’t have to charge as much money on taxes. Now how does those two extra seconds sound now? One can better the place they live in and save some money by taking two extra seconds to recycle.
There are also several long term benefits of recycling. For example, “collecting and processing secondary materials, manufacturing recy...
...or lakes (Weber 2). When people just dump waste products instead of recycling, it is a misuse of the soil and can contribute to serious health conditions in animals, plants and humans.
Recycling is of great importance, and its importance is economic and environmental. It preserves natural resources, reduces depletion, reduces the amount of waste, reduces its growth, conserves the environment, cleanses it of some harmful waste, reduces unemployment and creates opportunities. New work.
