When God created mammals their primary purpose was to be a helper for man but after the fall of man their purpose changed a little they became a food source, their skin was used for clothing and other goods, they have been for centuries used as a source of power, they are used in medical research for testing drugs, manufacturing vaccines, and studying diseases that affect humans. One of the biggest purposes for mammals today is companionship/pets a couple of the main pets today are cats, dogs, rabbits, mice or anything that is cute and cuddly. but as much as i would like to talk about cute and cuddly mammals but today I'm going to focus on the odd balls of class mammalia. But in order to know what makes the animals I am going to talk about …show more content…
The whale is a little bit shorter than a Boeing 717 aircraft or roughly the length of 4-5 school buses put together. Another way to comprehend how massive the blue whale is its heart is as big as a car the arteries of the heart are large enough to fit a full grown adult finally the weight of the tongue can have the weight of a full grown elephant, think about that for a second thats about 4-5 tons! But more interesting than that when a new born blue whale is born it weighs up to 3 tons and stretches to 25 feet. It then feeds on the mother’s milk and gains about 200 pounds every day for the first …show more content…
So to end our discussion of whales I am going to discuss about echolocation. But what is echolocation, echolocation is the location of objects by reflected sound, it is used in particular by animals such as dolphins and bats. In order for echolocation to work is that the whale needs to emit a sound and the sound is produced when air is moved between air-spaces or sinuses in the head. The sound is then reflected or echoed back from objects, and these are thought to be received by an oil filled channel in the lower jaw and conducted to the middle ear of the animal. Echolocation is a necessity for whales because without it they can’t do necessary activities in they lives. There are a couple of activities that whales use for like hunting, language and maintaining social order. In hunting, whales such as the orca they can spot a lone seal that is swimming around in their vicinity. The orca will then alert the pod of orcas to then organize themselves in the most effective hunting procedure for that situation. This type of coordination makes orcas feared hunters in the animal kingdom and this is do to their God given ability of
Orca whales are the largest members of the dolphin family. Orcas are very curious creatures, they like to sky hop, which is when they poke their heads out of the water and look around, and they can also dive to as much as a hundred feet. These social animals live in pods and stay with them for their whole lives. They are so family oriented that they can may sleep together in a tight circle and have synchronized breathing. Orcas can grow up to thirty-two feet and can weigh nine tons. They typically eat five percent of their body weight and are amazing hunters. The lifespan of an orca in their natural habitat is about fifty years. This lifestyle for them is wonderful because they can swim as far as they want to and are free. Orcas should not be held captive because the capture process is dangerous, it is not good for their health, and their trainers are at risk. Free Willy. Dir Simon Wincer. 1993.Video. Keeping these huge animals in small pools does not seem right. Big mammals are not meant to be in small pools. When these mammals are born they stay with there mother all of their lives. They never leave their mothers until they are captured and put in small pools which is not right. Killer whales hunt in pods, the oldest female in the pod is usually the group leader. Each pod has its own set of whistles, clicks, and calls that only members of the pod recognize similar to having a unique language. Members of many pods hunt in teams. For example, they may work together to create waves to knock a seal from an ice floe and into the open water. In many pods,...
Killer whales are one of the most fascinating displays of ocean life. The killer whale has characteristics that are important to its survival in the ocean. It is interesting to know that killer whales have a plentiful diet. It is astounding to see how killer whales behave in the ocean. I plan to tell you about the killer whale, its characteristics, its diet, and its behavior in the ocean as well as the predation of the orca.
Orcas, or killer whales are majestic giants of the sea. They are actually the largest type of dolphin. They have long black bodies with distinct white patches near their eyes. A killer whale can be up to 32 feet or more in length, and weigh up to 12,000 pounds. Females are a bit smaller, but live longer (Gorman). The name “killer whale” apparently came not because it is a vicious whale, but because it preys on whales. They do not have any natural predators, and they are considered the “top dog” of the ocean. Not even the great white shark stands a chance against these superb killers. “Unlike sharks, killer whales are cautious hunters, sometimes spending hours harassing a 1,000-pound sea lion so it can easily be drowned” (Francis). Orcas use many hunting tactics that are unique to their species, which is what makes them invincible.

metres long and weight around 20 to 40 tons. The side of their stomach is white and their back is black or dark. Older Humpback whales can have a lot of barnacles on their bodies. Once an adult barnacle has settled down, it cannot change its position anymore. It will stay on the body of the Humpback whale. The maximum age a Humpback whale can reach is 40
In this research report I will discuss the Killer Whales unique characteristics; complex migratory patterns, how and why it is endangered, and most importantly how we can help them.
...ould estimate where they spent most of their time. By the length of the other skeletal bones, the size and shape of the animals could be determined, which also shared insight to its behavior. The largest primitive whales could indeed walk on land, but only did so for short periods because their legs could not take so much weight for long amounts of time. These behaviors allow scientists and paleontologists to understand even more as to how these fascinating and mysterious animals went from ruling on land to taking over the sea.
The work of art I have chosen is 'The Volunteers in College Green' painted by Francis Wheatley in 1779 in Dublin, Ireland. It was painted with oil on canvas.1 In this image, The Dublin Volunteers (a self-governing militia) formed by the Protestant Ascendancy are shown assembling around Grinling Gibbon's bronze statue of the King William III In College Green, on November 4th 1779.2 The Volunteers of the county and city of Dublin are seen firing a salute in celebration of King William III's birthday and his landing in England, under the command of William Robert, 2nd Duke of Leinster.3 The various corps and their officers are represented including 'including William Robert, 2nd Duke of Leinster, Colonel of the Dublin Volunteers; Sir Edward Newenham, Luke Gardiner, John Fitzgibbon, afterwards Earl of Clare, riding as a trooper in the ranks; David La Touche and others. '4 The Russian Princess Daschkow can also be seen in a window, who was then visiting Ireland and Sir Alexander Schomberg, captain of the Royal yacht the "Dorset".5
Blue whales, also known as (Balaenoptera musculus), are considered one of the largest animals today (NOAA). A blue whale can grow up to “80- 100 feet in length and may weigh up to 200 tons” (World Wild Life).

Attention getter: Lion, tigers, and bears, oh my! When the circus comes rolling into town, many people are excited to go and that is all that is talked about; about the clowns, the trapeze artists, the ring leader, the elephants and all the other marvelous wonders of the circus. But would you all still be excited to go if you knew the truth about the circus and the animal trainers of how they treat the animals? Because in reality, for our spirits to raise at the circus, they break the spirits of all the animals, especially the elephants.
The sun dried grass crunched under David’s feet as he reached the mailbox, sweat plastering his golden hair to his forehead. The rural landscape of Shark Bay is bone dry; the lingering heat wave serving as a slap in the face with the wind blowing what is left of his fields into whirlwinds of dirt. His was once a land of luscious green landscape, the soft air turned branches into wind chimes as the trees swayed. These same trees have been bleached by the heat ridden gusts carving tortured sculpture in their trunks. Some might now see this world as one of desolate wasteland but David grew up with the land, this land was a living, growing friend that he knew, loved, and cared for as much as he did his wife and children.
