I. Introduction
A. Attention-getter: “There’s a very basic human, non-verbal aspect to our need to make music and use it as part of our human expression. It doesn’t have to do with body movements, it doesn't have to do with articulation of a language, but with something spiritual.” - John Williams

First, I will explain how music in film can add many different emotions.
2. Second, I will explain how music helps add or take away certain meaning to a film.
3. Finally, I will discuss how film music can be used outside of movies.
II. Music adds emotional elements, it adds or takes away meaning from film, and it can be used in ways other than movies.
A. Music can be very powerful in effecting people’s emotions in film. It can make the view feel sad, happy, angry, and confused all in just 90 minutes.
1. According to bestbinauralbeats.org article How Music Affects Our Mood (2013), when we listen to music and the rhythm it gives us “Our hearts begin to synch with it.” A faster rhythm causes our brains to be filled with excitement, while a slower rhythm tells are brain that something sad is happening.
2. Musical tones are also important. A “major key” suggest something cheerful to our brain. A “minor key” sends something more soft and sad to our brains (2013).
a. An example of this is when there is an action scene taking place during a film, the tone will be more upbeat, and use major keys, which causes its viewer to be more excited for what is

For instance, if a couple is having a break up in a film, then soft and sad music might be added, to help the viewer better understand the importance of the scene taking place.
b. In doing this, films become more meaningful because of the added element of music.
Transition: Music can add so much to a film, but film music or scores can also be used in different ways.
C. Film Scores can be used for other uses than just being heard by an audience watching a film.
1. Film scores are a great thing to listen to when working out. The UK Telegraph spoke to psychology researcher Costas Kara. at Brunel University about this topic, “Hearing music you associate with peak performance will fire areas of the brain that deal with long term memory,” Dr. Kara. says. “It can inspire and help shift up a person’s gears.” (2015).
2. Film scores can also help students when studying. Psychology doctor William Klemm talks about this in his article Does Music Help Memory. According to Klemm, listening to positive, upbeat, and lyric-less music can allow are memories to be more open to what we are consuming (2013).
III. Conclusion
A. Review of Main Points:
1. Today I first discussed how music in movies can add
In The Important Places filmmaker choose awesome music because it gives viewer to feel in the best mood while watching. Similarly, Contributing Writer for Film Rejects, Allison, says “Music is an important part of any film, but with documentaries, the music becomes all the more important because it is reflecting real world issues and not just a works of fiction.” I agree with Allison, because music is the one media to draw viewers’ feeling, which touches the soul as well as capable of bonding people together from different background, and cultural heritage. This make music is key in the filmmaker, specially documentaries film to draw millions of people
The music suited the movie very nicely. By the type of music playing, you could determine what sort of scene was coming up, either fast and light...
If movies were created without any menacing or suspenseful music or sound, the movie would not be creating an emotion because non-diegetic sound tells a viewer how they are to feel about a
Music has frequently been used by directors to strengthen the impact of scenes that are dramatically weak and on the contrary, when music is not needed to strengthen a scene, it can be used for neutral effect and can refrain from drawing attention to itself e.g. easy listening or subtle complementary background music.
Sound is what brings movies to life, but, not many viewers really notice. A film can be shot with mediocre quality, but, can be intriguing if it has the most effective foley, sound effects, underscore, etc. Sound in movies band together and unfold the meaning of the scenes. When actors are speaking, the dialogue can bring emotion to the audience, or, it can be used as the ambient sound. Music is one of the main things to have when filmmaking. The use of Claudia Gorbman’s Seven Principles of Composition, Mixing and Editing in Classical Film gives audiences a perspective of sound, and, how it can have an impact on them.
Music is one of the few things that has remained constant through the centuries this world has existed. Not only does music provide entertainment, it also has several effects linked to it. Music allows emotions of happiness and sadness to arise. From those emotions, physical effects, negative or positive, can occur. Music has a profound effect on the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical aspects of a person.
Music is referred to as non-diegetic sound while dialogue is diegetic sound. In movies, music is used to determine the feelings of the audience. The viewers can normally tell what is about to happen by the type of music that is played. Dialogue, on the other hand, is used by the characters to communicate with each other. It is a very important part of a movie.
Music combines with, adds to and enhances moving image in many ways. It can heighten and refine emotion as well as meaning. Music, through tone and instrument selection can create the mood of a piece and of and towards its characters. Music is commonly used to give a sense of continuity and unity to a production and to possible sequels.
Movies tend to utilize many different factors to make them unique from other films. One of these factors is music. Most movies contain music in some form or another, whether it be an original score in the background, or a song with vocals, or both. Skyfall contains a musical score but uses a song with vocals only during the opening credits. Music in films in general can be used for symbolism within the movie.
...ing sounds and transmit them into the human heart. Without movie music, films would be dull and boring. The importance of film music is considered a jewel for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and immerses them into the movie. Music is one of the most important elements in film, for it capabilities and versatility of telling a story independently without picture.
The role of music in film is to give the movie that extra spice that it needs to make it big for the office box. The music gives the movie life and helps the viewers get in to the mood and feel closer to the main character of the film or even the side characters. I always felt that the music makes the movie, I once watch a movie with no music and it was quite boring. Let’s say if we have an action movie like Star Wars VII without any music. I can bet many people wouldn’t be attached to it as much as they are now since they didn’t get that chill or thrill from the music in the begging.
Feeling emotion through music in film is most easily recognized when the composer uses certain elements associated with sadness. Creating a melody that behaves similarly to human speech when one is sad, the composer can express sadness during a scene. Sorrow, grief, even anger and fear, which often occur prior to a sad plot turn, can be manipulated by the music during a film. Often the melodies are written in minor keys giving us a sense of melancholy. Slower tempos also add to the feeling of sadness as does the use of strings because of their beautiful timbres.
Would we able to truly feel those scenes if their images were presented in films without music? According to Jeffrey, a film and sound producer who says in her article that the absence of music from a film will impact the quality of imagery that is presented in it. Music has its own language and it brings the images that we experience in films to life. Every set, landscape, place, character, theme and atmosphere in the film needs music to help guide our emotions as we watch those moving images. Moreover, Jeffrey explains how different scenes in a film require different types of music to help the audience adjust and fit with what they see on the screen, and to recount the story in these scenes. Jeffrey says that the music can also be extensively engaging and regulate in its narrating like how we see in “Shrek” or “The Spiderman” films and it moderates in films like “Memento.” Music is a vital piece of this film’s generation. It recounts the story, evoke for us the whole scenario, characters, themes and images we see in the film, and the music can go on and adapt to the changes as the story of the film moves on from a scene to another. Music has a significant impact on our feelings and if the film itself doesn’t influence us, then definitely the music of it or the soundtrack
How can different types of music affect people’s emotions? Music has many different ways to affect people. In some ways, it is good for the body both physically and mentally. In other ways, people think it is nice to listen to. More detailed, music has personalities, which can express what people feel. There are many observations involving different ways to express human emotions. Emotions are very interesting things, especially when they involve music. Music can have many personalities, affect people’s emotions, and be used as therapy.
Also, music plays an important role in culture by being entertaining. Let's face it; people listen to music because it's exciting! It can affect a person's thoughts and feelings towards a particular subject, but not ultimately change their mind, which is what makes it so pleasurable. What else would put life in the world if music didn't? Music provides background music for almost everything in a person's everyday life. Try to imagine what television would be like without music. There would be no catchy jingles to stupid commercials that would end up getting stuck in your head for days and no theme songs to your favorite shows. Even a movie without sound would make you not want to watch it. Whether you think so or not, a soundtrack to a movie makes a person emote to the screenplay more- it makes you feel what the actors are feeling. That is what makes it so entertaining! If there were no songs to a movie, you might as well just not watch it at all. And what about a cell phone? How would you know when to pick up your phone if you didn't hear it ring your favorite song? Hearing that ring tone on a phone provides a small source of entertainment, but also serves a very important purpose.
