Including me, 57 percent of people worldwide own pets, and 163.1 million of those are just cats and dogs. The United States holds to top place of population of pets with about 70 million dogs, and about 74 million cats. People say animals are a man’s best friend but I think that animals can be anyone’s best friend. When it comes to our pets getting sick or injured, we do anything and everything that we can to take care of them and make sure they are okay, just as we would do with a relative. Imagine wanting not a puppy, but a tiger for your birthday, imagine the expenses of owning that tiger and the dangers and hazards of owning that tiger. Do you really think it’s a good idea to get that tiger? No, it’s not a question. It’s a lot of work, and it’s also very dangerous. Exotic animals are not good to buy and have.
When owners take their pets to the clinic, they are understandably anxious about the results and outcome of the visit. While it’s the veterinarian's job to provide care for the animal, it’s also their job to put the owners at ease, reassuring them that their pet will indeed be fine. This communication is vital for building trust, as it lets the owner know what is happening to their animal and gives them confidence in believing that everything will be okay. What’s more, veterinarians that take the time to thoroughly explain procedures and instructions regarding petcare, are teaching pet owners how to better tend to their
According to the article “Pet Statistics” by the ASPCA estimates there are 70-80 million dogs and 74-96 million cats owned in the United States. It is impossible to determine the number of stray dogs and cats, but the ASPCA estimates there are 70 million cats alone that are strays in the US (“Pet Statistics”). The overpopulation of dogs and cats live either on the streets and die each day, they live in a shelter and try to get adopted, but even then they die. The ASPCA states that nationwide about 7.6 million companion animals enter the shelter and of the 7.6 million approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats (“Pet Statistics”).
Chimpanzees - This is the largest kind of primate typically found as a pet and isn't actually a monkey (they are apes). Chimpanzees are large, strong, males especially are very aggressive, and they can live over 60 years. These are not household pets.
Pets can improve social health in a variety of ways. Showing devotion to and caring for a pet is a great way to improve the social and emotional aspects of a person (Grady). Those who are introverted can always have a quiet and attentive friend to talk to. Animals do not judge you and are always willing
Hello United Nations! I am going to start off by telling you a little bit about us and our organization. We are the Organization for African Endangered Animals. We are a private agency in Africa who protect the welfare of endangered animals. We are the voice of the animals. They cannot speak for themselves so we speak for them. We do our best to protect our animals but we have limited sources and funding. Our focus right now is one of the most endangered species in the world, the Dama Gazelle.
Do you want innocent wild animals to never be given attention and possibly starve? Exotic animals on their own are not dangerous. Very few people per year are killed by exotic animals. People should be allowed to keep exotic animals as pets.
From the Lions that hunt the terrane to the lizards that blend into the forest, each animal is made for its environment. Taking it away from their environment has physical and mental repercussions. A study found that more than 75% of exotic animals in the United Kingdom die within a year of purchase. Camillians live up to 120 years in the wild and humans can end their life in just one year. These deaths are caused by captivity and stress related sickness.(Brown)
Over 71 million American households (62%) have a pet, and most people think of their pets as members of the family. Some research studies have found that people who have a pet have healthier hearts, stay home sick less often, make fewer visits to the doctor, get more exercise, and are less depressed. Pets may also have a significant impact on allergies, asthma, social support, and social interactions with other people (Casciotti) .
“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.
As I waited outside my mother’s home on a chilly afternoon, I had seen a dog barking at an innocent white cat. Of course my mom lived in a neighborhood that was polluted with animals. Maybe, it was because she grew up on a farm with about five dogs so for her to see animals was a normal thing. Somehow, she was gifted to love and nurture. The vibe she gave was natural and impossible to miss.
Some people spread their wings in college by getting their first apartment nearby, I moved halfway across the country. In the summer of my sophomore year I choose to drive out to Wisconsin for the summer to learn at a wildlife rehabilitation hospital, renting a room from a local family while I worked. Unlike my previous clinic (which accepted only birds), this new clinic accepted all native wildlife. Here I was exposed to working with mammals for the first time, from tiny infant flying squirrels to awkward deer fawns. I was also given my first real taste of clinical support skills for the animals in my care, leaning basic fluid therapy and medication administration. I was thrilled to further my understanding of basic emergency support in order to streamline patient care when an emergency case arrived. There are few things in life that communicate to you just how much more you have to learn than when someone hands you a wood duck drake whose throat has been ripped open by a dog, or a fawn that was caught in a hay cutter. These moments defined by future direction in wildlife care, and made me determined to better my understanding of animal medicine so that I would always feel that I can help animals in need to the
