Throughout my educational career, I observed and learned different techniques from my teachers that will influence my future classroom. These influential teachers impacted my educational career developing a more confident student as well as a future educator. These teachers critiqued, assisted, and encouraged me to reach my highest potential and my ultimate goal, becoming a teacher. I have come to the conclusion that my teachers have impacted my growth in learning as well as who I have become. In elementary school, my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Morgan impacted my education by partaking in a variety of techniques, including hands on activities. Ms. Scarborough, my seventh grade teacher, too was an influential teacher who created a professional relationship with her students and created an open environment, where students felt comfortable to interact daily. In class, Ms. Scarborough provided hands on activities including: creating natural habitats and 3D cell models. I truly admired Ms. Scarborough’s techniques and strategies considering I excelled in hands on activities. In high school, I also had teachers who impacted my educational career, especially Mrs. Hoilman, my psychology teacher. Creating extravagant lessons and assigning the class interactive notebooks are various strategies Mrs. Hoilman chose to educate the class. The interactive notebooks provided a place to organize my work and provided a reference for future tests. During my undergraduate collegiate years, I had several professors who impacted my life, especially Gil Crippen, my geography professor. When Mr. Crippen would teach he brought life into the classroom, inspiring his students. After traveling the world, Mr. Crippen would share his personal stories with the class and encouraging others to discover the world. Throughout my educational career, I struggled to feel prepared for tests because of my test anxiety, which is why I prefer writing papers. Although this is the case, I find difficulty in expressing myself in writing because of my lack of analysis; Beginning assignments earlier would resolve this issue. My ultimate weakness as a student is my procrastination, which I will overcome this year. Academically, I have struggled with math and science, but through time I have become more confident, especially with teaching these subjects. At Christopher Newport University, I enrolled in two courses that showed me various ways I can teach math and science to my future students even if it is my weakness.
