This essay will be about Flemish Baroque painter, Peter Paul Rubens. I will explain why Paul Rubens was highly influenced and impacted by the arts in the high renaissance time. Such as the works of Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Titian, and how some of these artists ' works had an immediate effect on him during his time. I will answer this question by giving vast evidence of how Paul Rubens works are different based on contextual factors, but at the same time the same and under the influence of the high Renaissance artists mentioned above.

Peter Paul Rubens was an artist who was influenced by Raphael during the completion of his work called The Decius Mus cycle. In this art work, he defined a narration of a story, in tapestry form which represents an episode from the Roman history, through composing them as cartoons. Ruben’s used Da Vinci’s technique in his anatomy studies and drawings which were to fo with mostly human figures. However, he was more focused on the clear portrayal and efficiency of his works, which was opposite to Leonardo Da Vinci. (Tsaneva 2013)

• Ruben’s copied the painting called “The battle of the Standard” which was the celebrated cartoon of Leonardo Da Vinci, while he was in Spain working on a series of paintings. (Paul Rubens, 2015)

• Ruben’s retouched some of Leonardo, Raphael’s and Michelangelo’s paintings. He used black chalk for the initial design and Christoffel Jegher, another painter, went over it in pen and ink, and later Ruben’s retouched it with ink, brush and goache.
