Newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy Devos made headlines recently during her confirmation hearing. When the topic of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act was brought about, she stated that this specific act should be left to the states to decide whether to implement it or to ignore it. Ironically, she was not aware that the IDEA is a federal law. Is this an acceptable response from an official who is in charge of the education for millions of children in America? One purpose of the special education program is to assist children who have special needs with achieving those needs. Being well-organized is an important trait to have when caring for a child with special needs. Children should have a comfortable environment when they are being taught, and the teacher should be able to provide this for his or her students. In a regular class, there can be a very tense environment. The level of tension is oftentimes intensified in classes that involve the teaching of special education. Teachers who specialize in special education should have the ability to make all students comfortable and have coping techniques to aid their students. Many students have unique learning styles. In order to accommodate every student’s needs, a teacher must be able to teach the same curriculum in multiple ways. One of the main roles a teacher portrays is the loving and caring they have for their students. Children must have a teacher who shows how much they care for their students and how they genuinely love them. The role of the special education administrative organization is to supply an educational environment that is the most productive for those with special needs.Those who teach special education provide a support system for their students. Teachers need to be trained to educate special needs students in order to grant them the best education they can receive. Special education is a process of expanding the education system to contribute to every child’s educational needs. Teachers must be adaptable in order to maintain control if a child has an outburst in class. Imagine you are young teenage girl in the high school setting. You look the same as everyone else. Nothing on the outside appears to be abnormal. You want to be included and do everything else the other students are doing. However, you have this learning disability no one knows about except for you, your parents, the exceptional educator, and now your general education teachers. It’s not easy being different wanting to do everything the other students are doing. Well, this is why mainstreaming and inclusion are important for these students. They want to be successful like everyone else. They want to fit in. They want to go to the general education classes with everyone else. Leading up to this is why Individual Education Plans are important for these students to have a chance at normality.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is one of the most significant laws in American History. Before the ADA was passed, employers were able to deny employment to a disabled worker, simply because he or she was disabled. With no other reason other than the person's physical disability, they were turned away or released from a job. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The act guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications. The ADA not only opened the door for millions of Americans to get back into the workplace, it paved the road for new facilities in the workplace, new training programs, and created jobs designed for a disabled society (Frierson, 1990). This paper will discuss disabilities covered by the ADA, reasonable accommodations employers must take to accommodate individuals with disabilities, and the actions employers can take when considering applicants who have disabilities.

The protection extends to discrimination in a broad range of activities, including public services, public accommodations and employment. The Americans With Disabilities Act not only opened the door for millions of Americans to get back into the workplace, it is paving the road for new facilities in the workplace, new training programs and creating jobs designed for a disabled society.
Did you know that over two thirds of special education students receive services for non-mental health issues, among these students 17% have serious behavior as well as emotional issues compared to over 51% of special education students with mental health issues and 4% of students not in special education (Pastor and Ruben)? My research paper will first explain what Special Education actually is and it will focus on the issues that arise when disciplinary actions are called for and what is to be considered the most appropriate and effective forms of discipline in special education. It will also cover the most common issues that arise in special education as well as what strategies are effectively administered to solve these issues. My research paper will also take an in-depth look into special education students with non-mental health issues. It also will look at some misconceptions of special education students.
Two years ago, I embarked on a journey that would teach me more than I had ever imagined. As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled to finally begin my teaching career in a field I have always held close to my heart. My first two years as a special education teacher presented countless challenges, however, it also brought me great fulfillment and deepened my passion for teaching students with special needs. The experiences I have had both before and after this pivotal point in my life have undoubtedly influenced my desire to further my career in the field of special education.
Today, students are separated into many categories, one of which is special education; the students under this label are likely to model “atypical” behavior rather than “typical” behavior. Defining and distinguishing these behaviors is what creates the special education process; evaluating and viewing each student individually and taking into consideration the individuals strengths and weaknesses. Special education is a broad term used to describe many children on a spectrum. The general term “special” can be used to include children from the gifted program that test above that of their normal grade level, to students suffering from impairments such as being deaf or blind, to students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, and students suffering from a wide range of mental disabilities including, but not limited to, autism, and downs syndrome. This paper focuses specifically on the intellectually disabled side of special education, which is only a portion of special education. People with intellectual disabilities have a wide range of limitations in areas such as recognition, ability and social adaption skills, they are more prone than the rest of the population to chronic, life-long physical, mental and social conditions that require specific forms of health and social services (Jin-Ding. 2006, p. 1). Students that suffer intellectual disabilities are usually identified through tests and measures of adaptive behavior. These tests indicate a person’s ability to “perform functional activities expected of age and cultural norms”(Smith, 2011, p. 5). All students deserve the equal opportunity to learn even though they require more help than others, so it is necessary to have special education teachers to be able to provide this equal opportunity. After receiving their bachelor’s or master’s degree, special education teachers are now able to enlightened the minds of special needs students by giving them the acknowledgement of basic life skills, and educational subjects while also showing the students ambition, patience, kindness and support. While teaching is a passionate career for some, advancing forward into special education is an opportunity that can provide more involvement and achievement in the special education program. Also, while advancing a career in special education, traveling to different facilities and schools allows educators to evaluate many different students who have different disabilities. Special education is the practice of educating students with special educational needs by addressing their individual needs and differences. “in order for your child to qualify for the services the student must be found to have one of the 13 categories of special education and it must adversely affect their educational performance” (Hancock, 2016).
