Indigenous people are the first to be on the land, and because of that, they are being treated very unfairly because the new “settlers” hopes to take the indigenous’ people land for their own. To accomplish taking the indigenous people’s land, the new settlers started spreading the rumor that the indigenous people are savages, so therefore would not be able to do good to their land, which lead to the main reason why indigenous people are being treated badly. Canada and Australia have treated the indigenous people especially badly. Currently, five percent of the world population is indigenous people, but that didn’t stop the indigenous people from being thirty-three percent of the world’s poorest people. Many countries have tried to help them, but while they are eager to help, many did not ask the indigenous people what they hope to have, and after some time finally what the indigenous people’s goals are was revealed. …show more content…

In 2010, there was the first world conference on indigenous people, which lead to the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples being created. This declaration includes a list of the rights of indigenous people. 144 countries signed on to this declaration. The four countries that did not sign it is Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. One of the problem the indigenous people face is these days is clean water. While the nonindigenous people only needs to walk for ten steps to get access to clean water, the indigenous people needs to walk for a long time to get to rivers and
