With only a few weeks remaining in this course and with all the different quizzes and discussion posts we have done, I can say since my last concert I attended I have grown more comfortable with the styles of music we have went through. For my second Concert Report I really wanted to go to another performance that had an added feature to make the performance that much more enjoyable. Right after submitting my first concert report I started looking through the concert calendar to see which ones intrigued me the most. My attention was instantly caught by one performance happening right before Thanksgiving break began. This performance happened to be the film Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark with the orchestra performing all of the …show more content…
The smell of buttered popcorn overwhelmed the pavilion where you could buy concessions. One thing I have to say about the staff at the Hilbert Circle Theatre is that they do their job in an exceptional manner. Prior to entering the theatre I was stopped by an attendant and asked if I would like a free bucket of popcorn that another patron had given him. The two times I have been to this theatre I have been so impressed by how they have treated me and other patrons attending the performance. I then took my seat and noticed there was a large projector screen hanging center stage just above where the orchestra would be playing. After a few moments Maestro Jack Everly took the stage and gave a quick background of the film and the soundtrack they would be playing. He also made an announcement that the film would be played with subtitles and that the soundtrack in the movie would be lowered in sound so that we could fully appreciate the sounds of the Symphony Orchestra. It really intrigued me as to how this would turn out and whether or not the orchestra would be able to play the different pieces in a manner that it doesn’t disturb the lines by characters yet still sounds the way it did in the …show more content…
Early into the movie I was very conscious of the orchestra and often found myself taking my attention away from the movie and directing it solely to the orchestra while they played. As I watched the orchestra I noticed that the projector screen was sitting in a manner that the majority of the orchestra could not see it. The only performers that could see it were the violin players in the first few rows directly to the left and right of the Maestro. I also noticed that the Maestro had what looked like an IPad sitting directly in front of him playing the movie so he could easily follow along with what was going on without constantly looking up to the screen. The opening of the movie began with the famous “Indiana Jones” theme that is easily recognizable almost as soon as it begins. This particular piece has to be one of the most famous theme songs in movie history right behind the “Star Wars” theme song. There is something about this one piece that can take you back to your childhood when you wanted to be just like Indiana Jones and go on your own adventures. It was really amazing to hear just how powerful and overwhelming it was in person. The orchestra did an incredible job at bringing this song to life and setting the standards for the remainder of the
Winning 117 awards and being nominated for another 225, it is no surprise that his name is common in households across America. Williams’ music style is very classical, having been influenced by composers like Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler. In this film, Williams uses the perfect amount of brass and strings to create fanfares and marches that are unsurprisingly still in the audience’s head, hours after they are heard. Not only are they catchy, but they also provide another dimension for the film, evoking emotions and setting the mood, to pull every audience member into each scene and develop the action in the film. Majority of the music in this film is non-diegetic with a few rare occurrences of diegetic music. One of these instances is a scene where Marion kisses Sallah, Indiana Jones’s colleague, and he starts singing. The only other time it is diegetic is when Indiana Jones is in the bar meeting with Belloq, a rival of Indiana
On Friday, November 15, 2013, I attended a concert that I found very interesting. It took place at 7:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The group performing was the Erie Chamber Orchestra, but as a special the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir was also there. During the performance I attended, two pieces were performed. The first was a Mozart piece by the name of Symphony No. 41.
As the opening credits scroll on the screen, the violins in the orchestra play an anticipatory mood. Almost like a chase is occurring. This music sets the scene for the rest of the movie and the horror that will ensue. The same melody is continued into the first scene just at a slower speed. When Marion Crane and Sam Loomis are in the hotel room
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
with and have heard Symphony No. five by Beethoven. Whether it was a theme in movie
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. This made me curious how this event will turn out. Walking past the ticket area and through the doors to the lobby made me feel instantly memorized at how grand it was on the inside. I went downstairs and there were a vast
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has a website that announces its programs. Anyone can easily find and choose a concert. I chose a concert for Sunday July 25, 2010. This concert was emerging artists from Ipalpiti Festibal 2010. It included the four pieces of music that are described below. One of these was Fantasiestucke, Opus 88, both Romanze and Duet were preformed. This concerto was performed by pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Vladimir Dyo, and cellist Yves Dharamraj. The second piece was Ahnung, a new discovery piece from Kinderszenen. This piece was U.S. Premiere, played solo by the pianist Luiza Borac. The third piece was Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Opus 47. This piece was an Andante cantabile piece. This concerto was performed by pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Conrad Chow and Adelya Shagidullina, and Cellist Kian Soltani. The last piece was Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Opus 44. What I discovered about my own musical understanding by attending this concert is the following thing. I know how to appreciate and to enjoy music that is a little bit familiar, but my understanding stops when a very new type of music is performed. I made a conclusion from this experience. My conclusion is that learning about music will increase the pleasure of listening to music, but that musical learning is not, perhaps, as easy as learning subjects like Math or History.
I attended the Los Angeles Philharmonic classical music concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday 29 November 2013. The classical concert started at 8:00pm to the enjoyment of the huge audience that had been waiting for this amazing music extravaganza. Classical music concerts always offer magnificent entertainment and the audience in this concert was expectant to derive such entertainment or more. In attendance were Christian Zacharias who was the conductor and Martin Chalifour who was the LA Phil commanding Principal Concertmaster and Bach violin player. In readiness for the concert, I enjoyed a special dinner prepared for the audience. More specifically, LA Phil staffer introduced us to the evening classical concert amidst cheers from the audience. It was such a refreshing and joyous feeling to be part of this audience.
The music suited the movie very nicely. By the type of music playing, you could determine what sort of scene was coming up, either fast and light...
As an audience we are manipulated from the moment a film begins. In this essay I wish to explore how The Conversation’s use of sound design has directly controlled our perceptions and emotional responses as well as how it can change the meaning of the image. I would also like to discover how the soundtrack guides the audience’s attention with the use of diegetic and nondiegetic sounds.
Then the sound of crying, chorusing angels screaming angry chants echoed around the theater (great surround sound effect). Images (clips from the movie) flashed sporadically on the screen. A dark, sinister voice retold Shakespeare's prologue given in the telecast moments before. The angels were still screaming, and then, silence. A big truck flashed on the screen and gave a hearty engine growl.
The musical selections and songs that were sung told a story and narrated the almost the entire film, as is expected in...
Musical concerts are undoubtedly an incredible opportunity to experience a great aesthetic pleasure by listening to the musicians perform in front of your eyes. The power of music can hardly be overestimated – it can transfer a number of messages, thoughts and feelings through the performed sounds. Therefore the one can comprehend the music in the best possible way only when it is heard live. Musical concerts are often revelatory and highly impressive experiences to me. This essay thereby aims to provide my reflections and impressions of the concert of Gregory Porter & the Metropole Orchestra which I had the opportunity to attend in Nashville, TN.

For starters, the soundtrack completely blew me away. Many films that I have seen seemingly forget about one of the most important elements of films: sound. However this film had a handcrafted original score that enhanced the film ten-fold. The soundtrack itself is very industrial and mechanical sounding. It fit perfectly with the theme of the movie and takes the audience through a journey.
