Recommended: The part of technology in modern society
In today’s day and age, almost all kids have a smartphone and know how to work technology. Kids are able to browse the internet, sign into Netflix, twitter, Facebook, etc. It is a great idea that kids are expose to what the future maybe, and are learning from technology, but parents should limit what their children use the computer for and how much time they spend on it. Most children are e in the here and now and want to be associated with what is cool in society. Many elementary schools, middle school kids are on every social media you could think of, and though parents may not think it’s such a bad thing they should know that some things that are presented online are most of the inapprotie for these kids. It is not only social media, videogames
and the popups that appear on the webpages always come with inapprioate context or message. Things like this can have an influence on a young ones mind and alter his or her behavior. Parents should monitor or suggest great ways the kids use the computer. Limiting and timing how much time your child spend on the computer will help your child in the long run, because computer screens are not good for eyes and can cause eye problems later in life if all a kid is doing is looking at a screen 24/7. Children lose contact with each other, when all they are doing is on a computer, they start to lose their social skills and prefer nothing but coming home from school and going online. Kids are not enjoying outdoor and after school activates if all they are doing is using the computer. Kids are becoming less active and in turn obese because they are just sitting down all day at home on a computer playing videogames, watching a show, on social media etc. Limiting and timing computer use will help your child be more active and involve in the world. It will also help them to stay away from inapproriate context and influences.
“Get off your phone.” “I’m taking that laptop away.” Many children have dealt with their parents barging into their rooms and telling them to get off their electronics. Parents believe it is not healthy and therefore should be restricted. The two articles, “Blame Society, Not the Screen Time” by Dana Boyd and “Don’t Limit Your Teen’s Screen Time” by Chris Bergman, both talk about how parents should not limit their kid’s screen time. Both authors are writing to parents of children who they think spend way too much time on their electronics. However, Dana Boyd has a much better compelling argument for not restricting teenager’s screen time. Boyd has a much better appeal to both audiences. She manages to employ better uses of both pathos and logos
“The Risks of Parenting While Plugged In” by Julie Scelfo. This article was about parents paying too much attention to technology that they forget about their little ones. Also how using too much technology can affect your child in negative ways. In the article she states an incident she saw with a mother and son. The son was repeatedly trying to get his moms attention but she wouldn’t look up. Things like this can make children feel ignored make them feel upset. It could make them be on the internet just as much as their parents. Parents now days need to put time aside for their little ones. I agree that things need to change, and we can have better focused parents.
Enki (“En” Lord, “ki” Earth) is one of the three, most relevant gods of Mesopotamian civilization. He symbolizes art, design, wisdom and creation. The god Enki is elucidated as The Lord of Earth, son of An.
The Unangan people lived in the Alaska region of North America and their culture is known as the Arctic culture. At the start of the late eighteen century, the Russian missionaries had come to covert the Unangan people to Christianity however, most of them had died from starvation, diseases or being killed by the Russians who first owned the land but later sold it to the United States. The Americans also made life very difficult for the Unangans by forcing them to assimilate the American culture.
Maggie Jackson’s other blog, “Does Self-Control come in an App?” Digital Natives don’t know any difference by going to Facebook or playing games on technology, but it could have a serious impact on them if they get addicted. Kaiser Family Foundation said, the average 8-18-year-old spends more than seven hours and 38 minutes on entertainment media on a typical day. Half of those people use media when doing homework. To help address this problem, we need to teach children to respect the integrity and set up rules for their media use.
El Diario, which is mostly now known as El Diario/La Prensa is the longest publishing Spanish-language daily newspaper in the United States. This news organization has over 100 years of standing. It went through some economic issues at one point but somehow they pulled through, some even call it a miracle. Just by the title of the newspaper “El Diario” we can safely say that is for native Spanish speakers. This newspaper is specifically for Hispanics/Latinos to inform them of what’s occurring at the moment.
A pregnant horse stands confined to a small stall, packed into a crowded facility with numerous others just like her. She has been through many pregnancies in her life, never having the chance to bond with her foals and she exists to serve one purpose - to make a profit. This is the life of a horse on a Pregnant Mares’ Urine Farm. The facility that exists to produce a drug called Premarin. Although Premarin is used in Hormone Replacement Therapy for menopausal women, Premarin should not be used because of the effects it has on the mares.
The Seekers. An elite special forces group exclusive to flying cybertronian warriors whose existence predated the Autobot-Decepticon War. They were the best and brightest of the Cybertronian Armed Forces back then. Now, they were the best and brightest of the recently-formed Decepticons, still grinding gears and tearing scrap up with as much style as ever.
Insite is the first legalized drug injection site in North American, it is located in Vancouver, Canada. Insite offers a safe place to inject or smoke illegal drugs, primarily heroin. Insite does not provide the drugs but they do offer medical help to anyone needing it. In 2009, 276,178 visits were recoded, and 484 overdoses occurred with no deaths, (Wikipedia, n. d).
The problem doesn’t just lie in only the kid’s hands, it’s up to their parents to try and help them. Parents need to limit screen time to no more than 1-2 hours per day for their children. As kids get older they spend more and more time with entertainment media and less physical activity. Parents “can avoid buying electronic toys, games and apps as much as possible. If a child is playing with an electronic game, we can try to introduce a more open-ended material, such as blocks” (Carlsson-Paige). We need to encourage creativity more without the use of technology. Since technology has become more popular you don’t see as many kids playing outside. This is causing many health issues among children of all ages. The top one being
Karrie Lager, a child psychologist practicing in Los Angeles, says. “However, excessive internet use can have serious negative consequences,” she explains in response to a survey published by CASA Columbia (Stein, 2014). Dr. Lager has a great point, she believes that the use of technology for communication is a great thing for children, but she also agrees that using it to excess can be harmful and dangerous to a child. A lot of children, as well as adults use social media as fuel to their self-esteem and their self-worth, by doing so they become addicted wanting to use it more and more to never feel less than they should. Unfortunately because of this the addictive tendencies are becoming more apparent “Social media is simply providing a quicker peeling of the onion, however in most cases the problems were already there,” Dr. Sophy says, “Many people are genetically predisposed to use excessive amounts of potentially harmful tools (sex, substances, food, social media, etc.) to self soothe. And yet there are others who learn these behaviors due to life circumstances and events” (Stein, 2014). As you look closer to the problem one can understand that there are beneficial factors to social media but they can also see that there are factors that are harmful. If children are using social media more and more there is naturally going to be
Just about everyone and his mama has heard about High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT for short. HIIT has been found to have various advantages over other forms of exercise for both fat loss and retaining muscle mass. It seems everyone has jumped on the HIIT bandwagon and regularly talk about how they do 40 minutes or so of HIIT and so on. The problem is, most of the people who claim to be doing HIIT are not. A quick hint: if the person was doing true HIIT, they would not be able to do 20 minutes of it, much less 40!
Almost every child between the ages of eight and twelve are getting cell phones. The average home in America has as many televisions as they do people. Only 20% of American homes do not have a computer. Technology is quickly becoming a new way of life. The amount of time people are on their devices is growing rapidly. According to The Huffington Post, people are on their devices for on average about eleven hours and fifty-two minutes a day. That is almost half a day and a lot longer than most people sleep or work. People have not realized yet how they or their families are being affected by this constant use of technology. As a result of technology increasing, children are experiencing health problems, school issues, and social problems.
Imagine a sunny, blue-sky day. A beautiful day to be outside playing with friends. You look over and notice that you son/daughter is on the computer. You tell them to go outside and enjoy the day; they say they can not, because they do not have any friends. If they live in Nebraska though they could, because the person they are talking to lives there. Many children now a day are not getting the proper exercise they need; because, they are spending day and night on the Internet chatting. In addition, due to them spending so much time online, their schoolwork has drop significantly. There have been so many times that I heard my friends say “Only if I had more time.” Well if they have spent less time chatting and more time studying things would be different.
As disclosed in the article, The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child, Chris Rowan acknowledges, “Rather than hugging, playing, rough housing, and conversing with children, parents are increasingly resorting to providing their children with more TV, video games, and the latest iPads and cell phone devices, creating a deep and irreversible chasm between parent and child” (par. 7). In the parent’s perspective, technology has become a substitute for a babysitter and is becoming more convenient little by little. It is necessary for a growing child to have multiple hours of play and exposure to the outside world each day. However, the number of kids who would rather spend their days inside watching tv, playing video games, or texting is drastically increasing. Children are not necessarily the ones to be blamed for their lack of interest in the world around them, but their parents for allowing their sons and daughters to indulge in their relationship with technology so powerfully. Kids today consider technology a necessity to life, because their parents opted for an easier way to keep their children entertained. Thus resulting in the younger generations believing that technology is a stipulation rather than a
