Have you ever read something on the news that you just couldn’t believe but you knew it had to be true? If you’ve ever read something like that, it was most likely fake news. Fake news is stories that people make up or partly make up to convince the public. “Babysitter Discovers ‘Clown Doll’ In Kid’s Room Was A Real Person, Raping The Child At Night” is a fake news story of a babysitter’s point-of-view of several nights and whenever the child went to bed there were screams from her room. Later the babysitter says that the parents are not aware of a large clown doll in the child’s room and it is actually a man raping the child at night. This fake news story is an example of a hooking title but if you read it carefully there is evidence to show it is fake. Despite the fake news story’s weak appeal to ethos, it was somewhat effective at convincing adults with children it was true due to a strong use …show more content…
Many times in the story the writer says that the child is screaming but the sitter refuses to keep checking on her. This would give mixed feelings to the reader as still being frightened but also anger towards the sitter. Another hook is “When I explained to Mr. and Mrs. Klein about the situation, they acted as if they had no idea what I was talking about.” That gives a twist to the story and the reader then knows the child is in danger. At the end of the story, it states that the clown did very bad things to the child and that Calvin Winkles is awaiting trial. This fake story gives readers, parents mostly, fear of child's safety but also gives a pleasing ending because they caught the man. The writer also uses the feelings of the reader to hook them and this helps the story to seem real to the casual

This is a story that with it's elaboration and ornamentation shows the destruction of innocence. This story is about an impossible that came true. The story in its simplest form involves two main characters and the storyteller, Rat Kiley, a well-known truth stretcher. The main people that your interest in this story is concerned with are Mark Fossie, a solider with the team of medics that Rat was with,
Pharoah is the younger brother to Lafeyette, LaShawn, and Terence. He is an intelligent person. His mother LaJoe wants Pharaoh to do well in life. She thinks that he has the motivation to do whatever he would like to do. Pharoah has a lisp that makes him work harder in becoming a better person throughout the novel. "Pharoah was different, not only from Lafeyette but from the other children, too. He didn't have many friends, except for Porkchop, who was always by his side... Pharoah got so lost in his daydreams that LaJoe had to shake him to bring him back from his flights of fancy. Those forays into distant lands and with other people seemed to help Pharoah fend off the ugliness around him" (15). Pharoah was changed throughout the novel, overcoming his lisp and becoming confident in himself that he could one day escape the Horner homes.
In his essay, “The Good, The Bad, and The Daily Show,” Jason Zinser explores the vices and virtues of so-called “fake” news programs. “Fake” news, as Zinser explains, are those programs that blend newsworthy events with comedy. By examining The Daily Show, Zinser reveals both positive and negative impacts that “fake” news could have on society. As a result, Zinser concludes that there are benefits as well as potential problems with “fake” news programs but insists that the true challenge is determining the net impact on society. The essay, which first appeared in The Daily Show and Philosophy: Moments of Zen and the Art of Fake News in 2007, challenges experts on both sides of the argument who either claim fake news is for entertainment only or that fake news is an acceptable source for information on current events. On one hand, Zinser uses expert testimonies to support his argument that the end result is a better informed public but on the other, he makes logical arguments enhanced by examples to illustrate the potential impacts “fake” news can have on its viewers and mainstream media.
Has a book ever made you sympathetic towards a character? A true story, A Child Called “It” by Dave Peltzer is the most heart wrenching novel someone could read. In the book, a little boy described his family to be perfect until his mother is diagnosed with depression and begins to drink. At the age of 4, Dave’s mother starts to abuse him and only him. His brothers never got to experience the bad side of their mother like Dave did because his brothers would abuse him as well. He had to wear the same clothes everyday, he did not get to eat dinner with the rest of his family and he had to sleep in the garage on a coat. Prior to reading this book, I was very uneducated about the seriousness of child abuse. Reading this book changed my perception
Laurie used a make-believe person to cover up for his wrongdoings, instead of telling his mother and father the truth. Shirley Jackson used irony to make the readers believe Laurie until the ending lines, “Charles?" she said. “ We don't have any Charles in the kindergarten.”
It has been shown that children are heavily influenced by their parents and the way they choose to raise their children. My Virtual Child gives people the opportunity to see the outcome of their child through the kind of parenting techniques they decided to use. With my virtual child, I employed an authoritative style of parenting, which means being involved while still allowing some independence, just as my parents have used on me. It was not until I saw the psychological analysis of my eight year old that I realized how much I had been influencing my child, Delilah. Her verbal, mathematical, and visual-spatial abilities are at an extraordinary level. All of these skills progressed to where they are because of Delilah’s interest and my encouragement.
The origin or rather the first collection of The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs was in the early 1960s and this legend continues to be told today. The legend’s emergence and specific origins are unknown; however, attempting to understand why such a legend was told to begin with is not an impossible task. The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs reflects societal anxiety about young girls increasing rejection of feminine expectations and reinforces ideas about traditional gender roles, through the characters, their actions, and the consequences of such actions.
After knowing that Tim O’Brien had killed a young man, he then made up multiple stories as well as scenarios about the one event. Later on, O’Brien writes chapter “Good Form” and indicates that “almost everything else is invented” (179). Basically, he means that all of the stories about morality and how he felt about killings and deaths were all fabricated. By using this writing method, Tim O’Brien implies how powerful fiction is comparing to non-fiction since fiction lets one to add more details; while in non-fiction, readers would know what happen but as for what would make the story more lively, they do not know the specific aspects. Furthermore, the author explains more on the reason he chose to lie about the story of how he killed the young man, “... even that story is made up. I want you to feel what I felt, I want you to know why story-truth is truer sometimes than happening-truth” (179). In this quote, O’Brien is delivering a message that he falsifies the story in order to make the audiences have a better insight of what he saw, to put them in the situation that he was in, to understand how he felt at that moment … Nevertheless, the most important intention is to signify that sometimes, the stories that one knows of, which might have never occurred at all, is more convincing than
The philosophy of parenting is a concept that all parents try to understand. When they realize what a parent needs to do to be successful, they employ their parenting strategy on their children. The ultimate goal is to raise their children to become successful and autonomous away from the security of home, wherever that might be. The reason why parenting styles differ is that each parent has a different definition of success. For some, success means going to an Ivy league college, while for others it just means to be happy in life no matter what lifestyle their child leads. The type of person produced is largely dependent on what parenting style that was used on them.
Child abuse is the malicious maltreatment of a child by his or her parent, guardian, or any other adult who is responsible for said child. There are different forms of child abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect (Barnett 2005). In the book, “A Child Called It”, demonstrates different forms of abuse. It illustrates the life of Dave Pelzer, a young boy who was physically and psychologically abused and neglected by his mother. During the time of his adolescent years, his case was listed as one of the most severe recorded child abuse cases in the entire state of California.
The author did an outstanding job in The Tell Tale Heart of building suspense and making the readers eager to read on . The suspense leaves you hungry to learn what would the cops do when the find the old man or do they find him. In the play A Doll House, by Henrik Ibsen, Nora and Torvald’s marriage seems to have been torn apart by Krogstad’s extortion plot, but in reality their marriage would have ended even without the events in the play. Torvald’s obsession with his public appearance will eventually cause him to break the marriage. Nora’s need for an identity will ultimately cause her to leave Torvald even without Krogstad’s plot. Lastly the amount of deception and dishonesty between Torvald and Nora would have resulted in the same conclusion sooner or later. In this essay I will argue that Nora and Torvald’s relationship would have ended even without Krogstad’s extortion plot.
“Rape Fantasies” is a weird story, but funny. The title catches the audience attention, making them anxious to read the story. The story is creepy, but awesome. As I readers read deeper into the story, the more interesting it become. Whoever reads this story really do need to have a good sense of humor because most will not find this story funny or will get offended. In addition, the title is quite weird due to what the story is actually about.
Fake News is constantly being written, permeating through television broadcasts, internet sites, and magazine articles. It seems that the amount of false news in the world is starting to overtake the amount of genuine information. This is indeed a problem, but not as much as people make it out to be. This is for a few reasons. Fake news is much like bacteria, there are both beneficial and harmful types of fake news. Beneficial fake news is usually
