Whether people like it or not, uniforms are here to stay in modern society. They are seen everywhere, from schools to policemen. Uniforms are a requirement for life. In professional work settings and careers they are expected. On this basis, why wouldn't they be used in a school setting? School uniforms prepares children for their futures. Parents and elders are filled with pride when they see the future generations in clothing that highlights their intelligence. Any issues with them, such as expense, expression, and their actual classroom effects, are easily solved. More schools should require uniforms. As it is, the trend is growing with one in five schools wearing uniforms (“Are School...”).
To say school uniforms are expensive is an almost ridiculous claim. Clothing in general is expensive and professional dress (like oxford shirts and slacks) can be worn to many social functions. Rather than spending hundreds of dollars on designer clothing like Gucci, Rayband, or Hollister (“School Uniforms...”), parents can find two sets of uniforms for their children for around $70. When an average pair of jeans is already $50 on sale, this can make a big difference in the pockets of low-income families. This social barriers in regular public schools is also being addressed. Teachers in these schools are often taught to not compliment clothing choices of children, this can cause children to examine their clothing closer. If this happens, the self-esteem of some students may drop tremendously if they cannot afford clothing like their peers. Uniforms cut this out of the equation by allowing all students the same opportunity to advance. There are also other options for such families. Many schools offer installment loans for uniforms or 'recy...

...o create a fair opportunity environment for all of their students without being biased or judgmental to cultural or historic backgrounds. In uniformed schools this is reduced as students feel welcome in their environment. The debate over school uniforms seems to be one that will be divided for a long time. This should not be, as school uniforms show so many benefits and can outweigh the disadvantages.

Presenting the issue of prostitution which is defined as “the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment” would not be living life in accordance to Kant’s beliefs. In Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant asserted that rational beings can never be treated merely as a means to an ends, they must always also be treated as an ends themselves. In prostitution men are using women as a mere means to their ends, to achieve sensual pleasure, but it is also true that women are so agreeing to be used as a means to achieve their ends, to earn money.
The price of uniforms is a financial burden to lower income families, putting a pain in families’ pockets. They’re families that use hand-me-downs and buy used clothing, which doesn’t help out for school. It also has to be reminded that school isn’t all day. After school you’re going to have kids rushing home to put on their other clothes. Kids are stil...
Throughout the school year teachers are constantly having to enforce dress code policies. When a student comes to school with the improper clothing, the teacher has to take time out of his/her schedule to deal with them. Uniforms save parents time in the sense of shopping. Many parents take their children shopping for school clothes before school resumes. Students can take hours just deciding, what to purchase and that is just one article of clothing. On the other hand, school uniforms would limit their choices down by a significant amount. In an online article, “Uniforms Save Time, Hassel,” Marcus Ngbea (2007), quotes seventh grader Ayanna, ‘It took only 30 minutes. Before I had a uniform it would take about an hour or so deciding on what I was going to wear’ (Marcus Ngbea, 2007, p.1). This quote is a perfect example of how school uniforms save students time. Having school uniforms are very helpful because students will have more time in the morning to eat breakfast or spend some time with their
School uniforms are affecting the amount of money spent on clothing in a negative way. Many people think parents/guardians are saving money, but really, they are just spending more money. If one were to think about it, school uniforms can’t be worn outside of school. Why would someone want to spend $300 on school uniforms, and then have to spend $200 on clothes worn outside of school?
School uniforms are a way for principals to know who belongs on campus and who does not. A while back, researchers studied that the reason certain school require students to wear school uniforms is because they feel that it will help stop other students from bulling one another, just because they don’t have on high priced shoes or clothing it shouldn 't stop them from doing what they do best. "The good thing is people judge you on your inner characteristics rather than what you wear," said Nick Duran, an 8th grader and the student-body president at Rogers Middle School (Portner)." Safety is they key, when students enter the school ground, they should feel safe and not think that someone is going to harm them. Students feel as if they have to wear school uniforms it will
Since the 1990 's schools have reported amazing results by mandating a school uniform policy. Konheim-Kalkstein, Y. L (2006) write: “ School uniforms, proponents have said, can lead to improved discipline and classroom behavior, increased school attendance, respect for teachers, better school performance, higher student self-esteem and confidence, lower
In society today, school-age children are under tremendous pressure to fit in with their peers and still perform well academically. I believe that school uniforms in pre-K through high school levels is an excellent way to help children succeed not only in school, but to prepare them for college and the “real world.” Three reasons why I believe school uniforms should be used in all schools is first, they are economic, next, they reduce distractions and finally, they help with social equality.
At the beginning of the 20th century almost no parent or faculty had any concerns with how students dressed to attend school. Nowadays, though, this is a giant concern among students, parents, and school board officials. Many arguments have been made over the matter saying uniforms should be required and enforced in schools. But, uniforms should not be required as they ultimately eliminate freedom of expression, promote conformity over individuality, may have a detrimental effect on students self image, emphasize the socioeconomic divisions they are supposed to eliminate, and lastly, school uniforms in public schools undermine the promise of a free education by adding an extra expense for families.
School uniforms lack effectiveness. They don’t help fix any problems. Many believe that school uniforms take away the students distraction towards clothes and appearance and enhance academic performance. However, it does not take a genius to realize that wearing a uniform does not automatically make a student more attentive or hard-working. There may be several other reasons as to why a student lacks focus or is distracted. Those reasons may include problems at home, with other students or even with teachers. Schools should do everything they can to help students with those proble...
School uniforms are a boiling conversation point these days. There are so many well-built points of view about what route parents, students, and superintendents wish to go in. It has been disputed that school uniforms have the potential to make a school safer, that uniforms reduce harassment or self-esteem issues, and that uniforms return the focus to the students' learning. I disagree. I, in fact think that school uniforms do not help make our schools a more secure place, I think that they do not revisit the center of attention to student's education - they just shifted where the attention was previous, and that they won’t help cut down on harassment or self- esteem issues in school.
“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences drives students further apart when schools should be drawing them closer together.” There are many problems in public schools with no uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms may take away a child’s individuality, there are more benefits than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms lessen the money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate. A school uniform should be a simple outfit.
A uniform is a standard set of clothes that is worn by a group of people. These people may be members of an organization or a group of people having the same ideas. There are thousands of kinds of uniforms in the world worn by people, such as police officers, firefighters, doctors, lawyers, security guards, and even fast-food restaurant workers. School uniforms are a controversial issue in schools today. Many schools have already adopted a policy mandating school uniforms, while many more are still considering the change. School uniforms create an atmosphere of equality in which the students are able to achieve to their best, while attaining the most out of their education. School uniforms should be mandatory to unite the school community as one, to instil discipline among the student body, and to eliminate distractions that will help students focus more, which in turn will help our society.
Uniforms in public schools are becoming accepted throughout the world. The public school systems would benefit significantly if this policy were to be accepted. Wearing uniforms in public schools result in positive effects.
My team is definitely in favour of schools having their students wear school uniforms. My teammates and I will demonstrate to you that the benefits brought by the wearing of school uniforms far outweigh any perceived disadvantages. Our first main argument, which will be explained by Brian, is that enforcing school uniforms in all schools will lift school spirit greatly. Justine will discuss our second argument, being that school uniforms reduce the amount of bullying. The fourth speaker, Ray, will debate casual clothing distracting students.
