During his time as an indentured servant, Moraley would travel to the countryside for jobs and would describe that “ Almost every inhabitant, in the Country, have a plantation … where Gentlemen live on the Labour of the Farmer, to whom he grants a short Lease, which expiring, is raised in his Rent, or discharged him Farm.” 7 Colonial America was known for its plantation economy and as described here the gentlemen Moraley refers to live off of the labor of tenant farms, along with servants and slaves as well. Moraley uses the word “gentlemen” to invoke a tone of elitism that the plantation owner embodies. The plantation owner maybe using farmers as his tenants but he still has overbearing power on them because of the farmer’s predicament. The predicament, in this case, is that the farmer has nowhere else to turn to rather than what is essential in an agriculture-based economy, and therefore has to be willing to be under the supervising control of a landowner. This shows the advantages that many affluent landowners, masters, and elites can get since they have an abundance of what the servant, farmer, or poor laborer desires and therefore can subsequently use it for their own capitalistic
can actually leave more space for new trees. Also, cutting down trees gives more multiple resources to contribute for our needs. One tree can produce many things to help we humans and cutting them down can be more of a benefit than a disadvantage. Trees can be very beneficial and be used as many resources through education and basically everyday life. The Truax has a more realistic view on the environment and how we are using it.

During the early 1800’s the demand for cotton had risen and it was now “King” of plantations in the southern region of the United States, where the climate was best suited. Now more then ever, slavery had become an essential component of most every cotton producing plantation. The Southerners knew slavery was wrong, but made justifications for it; within a span of 30 years these justifications had changed due to abolitionist movements (in the northern half of the county) and economic reasons which made cotton and slavery more profitable than ever.
Many plantation owners were men that wanted their plantation ran in a particular manner. They strove to have control over all aspects of their slaves’ lives. Stephanie Camp said, “Slave holders strove to create controlled and controlling landscapes that would determine the uses to which enslaved people put their bodies.” Mary Reynolds was not a house slave, but her master’s daughter had a sisterly love towards her, which made the master uncomfortable. After he sold Mary he had to buy her back for the health of his daughter. The two girls grew apart after the daughter had white siblings of her own. Mary wa...

By that they brought their African slaves which later have increased to 263000. Therefore, plantations and institution of slavery spread across the South. The large plantations and the system of slave labor shaped the culture of the Southern colonies. The plantation owners had time for education, and they had money to buy things from England. Owners of the largest plantations beca...

Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the human race. There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used everyday form many useful resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of available light, nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of the most critical issues of environmental problems that are occurring today.
Placing fruit baring trees in front of a home is a perfect example of reducing the human footprint. The tree provides food, and also provides for a wind and sun barrier that improves the insulation in the home.

Trees are usually considered as bland, unusual objects that are usually taken for granted; however, I believe there is more to a tree that meets the eye. They supply oxygen and shade. During the holidays, trees are able to spread holiday cheer by wearing holiday decorations. Through providing, they are always beneficial to the needs of others. Rather than having striking beauty like a flower, trees have are grounded and possess a gentle beauty; they are adapted wildflowers to their environment. In fact, if I had to compare myself to an inanimate object, I would choose a tree. A tree has many characteristics in common with me. Characteristics like relying on our roots, strength and observation, and helping others and leaving behind a powerful legacy are a few of the traits we share. All of which I believe are admirable qualities to possess.
Have you ever wanted to adjust your ways toward the environment? With baby steps, you can easily achieve the goal, which you did not think you were capable of doing. There is a vast amount of ideas in helping the environment and the community, and gardening is just one of many ideas. Planting a garden and fruit trees can be a goal that you set to make your environment a great and healthier place. In addition, planting something can be tough and physically challenging work, but if gardening is a point that you wish to reach, gardening will be something that you will soon be able to accomplish with a bit of hard work.
Deforestation is not a recent act. It has been practiced throughout human history. About nine-tenths of all deforestation occurred before 1950, but it has increased dramatically over the last 60 years. Trees provide shelter, warmth and food. So its not a surprise that chopping down trees is an age old human activity. Wood from trees is used to build shelters and fuel fires. Fires are used for warmth and to cook food. Nuts and fruit from the trees are food for both humans and animals. Medicines and dyes are also made from the nuts and fruit from the tree. When the trees were cleared, there was rich soil to grow crops with. Back then, stones and flint axes were used to cut down the trees, but for the last sixty years, power saws have been used, and that has made a huge impact. (Williams, 2001).
