Why millennials Are not great as they think they are Entitled, rude, arrogant, lazy and self centred these are just some of the labels Millennials have been given. And it's for good reason as our generation is. We are considered to be lacking in work ethic, undisciplined and entitled than older generations. This is due to many reasons with the main ones being social media, lack of discipline, more educated and being out of touch with the real world. If a millennial doesn't like the outcome of something or something doesn't agree with them, they protest and cause massive drama until they get what they want. However, if someone doesn't accept them or agree with them the millennial becomes highly offended and the person who doesn't agree with them instantly becomes the enemy. Classic example is within schools when something is posted on social media that person who got offended by it goes to a teacher and the teacher has to take care of it which is a massive time waster for the teacher and is not part of their job, what the millennial is forgetting is that after they leave school there isn't a person who they can tell if they get offended and it’s going to be a sharp wake up call for them when they realise that sometimes you have to put your feelings aside and carry on and that no one cares if you're offended. Another example is in America where students and young adults need “safe spaces” which is a area where people can go if they feel offended and feel safe from any disagreement or challenge. There were even reports of some students needing a safe space after seeing a trump campaign sign this shows us that Millennials are weak if you look back 100 years ago Millennials back then were involved in one of the biggest wars ever in history, there were no safe spaces back then as people didn't stand for something they didn't like they went out there and fixed it rather than to hide and be told it's

The myth of the millennial nation is one that describes the vision and perception held by the American people that suggests that the United States is the Nation responsible for heralding in the second coming of Jesus Christ. Hughes ties this vision to the American idea of manifest destiny which held much responsibility for our nation's growth and overpowering force, not merely in our hemisphere but in all of the world.
Millennials are accused of being tough to manage, behaving entitled, unfocused, lazy, narcissistic; however, they seek to have a purpose that they love and make an impact. Yet, the more they receive, they are not happy. Sinek jokingly states that they could be offered “free food and bean bags, because that is what they want, and they will still not be happy.” According to Sinek, there is a missing piece for millennials, furthermore, he goes on to say there are four characteristics that make millennials the way they are, “parenting, technology, impatience, and environment.” (2016).
Stereotyped in popular media as whining, self-absorbed, narcissistic, overindulged and tech-addled, the Millennial generation - born 1980 through 2000 - is generally considered to be the epitome of spoiled unreasonableness. Now that Millennials are making strides in the workplace, it is evident that those stereotypes are based more on anecdotes rather than reality. In fact it now appears that they very much echo their Boomer parents, which is why they are often referred to as Echo Boomers. Simply put, where Boomers have an optimistic outlook of the world, Millennials are hopeful; where Boomer work ethic is driven, Millennials are determined; where Boomers have a love / hate relationship with authority, Millennials treat authority with politeness; where Boomers believe in leadership by consensus, Millennials believe in leadership by pulling together; and where personal gratification is the impetus for Boomer relationships, Millennials have no personal motivation for relationships which are inclusive and with no boundaries (Zemke, Raines & Filipczak, 2013).
Although Millennials are often described as an extension of the previous generation, they are quite different in many ways.
If this paradigm is flipped then it is easy to see that this advancement of Millennials compared to previous generations is normal and in fact beneficial to the greater society. So far Millennials have been achieving those leadership positions and already at a young age they are starting to rule the world. Rather than having a negative attitude towards the transition from Baby Boomers and the Generation X to the Millennials, the generations should work together and learn from each other. Parents from previous generations should be proud of how they raised their children—they are succeeding in life. Millennials in the Work Place is a controversial subject, in the transcript for the video “Millennials in the Work Place” by Simon Sinek, (last published or updated January 4th) he gives his opinion on the matter at hand. In the video Simon Sinek goes along the lines by saying that millennials are not at fault for not being able to assimilate to the work environment because of the way they were brought up. I personally agree with Simon Sinek’s argument of why millennials cannot adjust.
This generation is in need instant gratification from all sources. What used to be the norm like going to the store to shop compare prices is now done on line form the house. The attention span of the average millennial is short. At any given time a person has roughly 3 seconds to capture the attention of a person before they are on to the next subject.
When the Baby Boomer generation was questioned about the newer generation, these words and phrases was often used: “slacker”, “lazy”, “has it easy”, “entitled”, “obsessed with their phones/internet/games” and “antisocial”. On the other hand, Millennials (or Generation Y) would say this about their older counterpart: “entitled”, “ruined it for those who followed”, “had it easier”, “narcissists”, “stubborn”, and “materialistic”. The reason for why the elders would see it that way is because they had to live without the quick solutions that teens have nowadays. This “elders bashing on the newer generation” isn’t uncommon, as seen by what was recovered from Aristotle’s and Plato’s time (Rampell 389). For Millennials, some of their tension comes from the fact that they will be the first generation earning less than previous generation for the same amount of work (Roos). We blame the millennials for their behavior and their different characteristics compared to previous generations; however, what if we stop looking at the millennials and start looking at the reasons that they behave sensitively? Each generation contains their differences, including the way they educate the next generation. We continuously judge the millennials behavior, but we rarely judge the people who influenced this behavior. Education has changed throughout the ages, not to mention the parenting skills that vary from generation to generation, which has affected the millennials way of interacting in the world.
